Feels light, feels nimble I suspect I mispoke I was driving a GT but on a bit of twisty bits, and even in that video I said I'd probably need more time to become accustomed to it. A canyon rat the stang in my opinion didn't display

@@ChasingTheApex to be fair everyone has their own opinions on cars and I quite like the challengers I've driven SXT and RT but they just feel enormous and handle about as well as full size sedan or a crossover IMO. The center of gravity is just too high and the cars are too heavy. Otherwise I liked the review and I hope you keep it up. I didn't mean to sound so critical

I own a 2016 Challenger SXT. It's my only vehicle, so a daily driver. I test drove what appealed to me (Camaro, Mustang, BRZ, Challenger), and the Challenger won on all counts: styling, standard features, back seat, trunk space, out the door price. Four years and 54,000 miles later I have zero regrets. Absolutely the best highway runner I've ever owned. Most don't realize it, but the chassis under the Challenger is an older Mercedes E Class, so designed for the autobahn. It eats up the miles effortlessly, and the more than capable 305 hp Pentastar V6 delivers it's EPA hwy estimate of 30 mpg, often times more. Ten hour days behind the wheel do not fatigue me. I still get a grin on my face when I see my Challenger sitting in the parking lot as I exit a store or restaurant. I've had zero reliability issues, and have no hesitation in recommending a base model Challenger SXT with V6. That 305 hp is more than most muscle cars had back in the day, and the 8 speed ZF auto trans is silky smooth. Sure, I coulda had a V8, but don't need or want the higher initial cost, the stiffer insurance costs, the less mpg, or the cylinder deactivation. If it wasn't for the sales volume of the V6, there'd be no Scat Pacs or Hellcats for the enthusiasts.

This is a brilliant write up. Indeed I remember as well when 305 Horsepower was supercar performance, when the driving experience mattered more than brute force. The Challenger, had really taken me off guard, I didn't expect the Driving Dynamics to be so well put together. Thanks so much for writing this, I really enjoyed reading it.

Having owned a 2006 mustang gt 5 speed, I purchased a 2019 challenger sxt six months ago. Nearly the same horsepower, a much wider, smoother car, amazing trunk space. Being 50 now, with older parents , I needed a little extra room and luggage space. The car is surprisingly refined, swift, and a pleasure to drive. I haven’t driven the v8 versions, but mine feels much more European rear wheel drive luxury on a budget, than pony car. I feel it’s a true bargain and a great touring car. Not a sports car, but certainly a great touring car.

I just ran into your video (no pun intended, or was it? lol) and your review is spot on! I bought a brand new white Dodge Challenger SXT back in 2017 and I fell in love with how she drives right away, I was also not expecting that. I had a Nissan Sentra that I planned to use as my daily driver but that poor baby never stood a chance, though I still liked her; I ended up driving that one for occasional short trips to 7-eleven just to not have the engine get ruined, and the Challenger became my one and only favorite ever… I never had any issues at all but this year I decided to trade it in for a 2023 white Dodge Challenger SXT black-top because, you know, last-call badge and black-top package with black stripes. I think she’s a keeper and hopefully will last many, many years, God willing. Great video again, you got yourself a new subscriber here 😊

@@ChasingTheApex My grandfather was GM of a Ford Dealership growing up. My father only ever drove Fords (and raced them). So, growing up a "car girl," the Mustang was always a no brainer for me. I got my first Ecoboost in early 2017, my second in mid-2019. I loved them both but, the comparisons are often unkind, especially when comparing "base" models. The SXT has way more tech, a bigger engine, and the cabin space and headroom is just unbelievable (especially when you consider that, width wise, they are nearly identical). I decided to test drive the Challenger because, frankly, my 14-year old son has sprouted to nearly 6' and doesn't fit in the back seat of either the Mustang, or my husband's Camaro. I expected it to drive like a boat. I expected it to be, as you mentioned in this video, unable to do much more than go straight and, even then, feel sluggish when I put my foot down because of the weight difference. What I found was, it was smooth, it handled corners like a dream (and has an amazing turn radius), and accelerated faster/cleaner than the Mustang (specifically the 2019 - the new transmission really slowed things down). I didn't expect to fall in love but, 2 hours later I was in the finance office.

Hi Chaffy thanks for the response, I would say the room is quite adequate for a young man your size. If it was me (this is my advice to all first time car buyers), i would advise you start with something that is a little less sport driving oriented, and focus on something a little more utilitarian just to ensure you have the knack of driving on public roads in other traffic (I tell first time drivers often their first accident is because of other drivers being careless, and they themselves have to learn to drive defensively) it takes time to develop some safe and adequate judgement of distance etc. You will also want to master maintenance, that takes time too, so you may want to consider experimenting on another vehicle if you're unfamiliar. If you're dead set on a more muscle car or sports driving oriented vehicle and your Parent's are in agreement I highly suggest a track day. I hope this answers your question! ~Jason

No worries love the dialogue! Generally the popular opinion in American car culture amongst an age group is "no replacement for displacement" which is fun in a straight line, however if anyone watches the channel other than the American cars, or are familiar with performance driving here, if it doesn't turn? It doesn't matter lol. I personally remember when 305 hp was a significant amount of HP. But this little girl (not so little), in my opinion tosses around significantly better than the hellcat variant which can be unwieldy on anything other than a straight road, or a track. Both have their places, but both should be judged or reviewed through a different lens. Me? I personally think? I'd take this over a hellcat all day, but that's me, however my current personal driving weapon is a 981 GT4. great dialogue, and you definitely aren't alone in your observations!

Dodge is knocking it out of the park. The Dodge Challenger is one of the most reliable high performance cars on the market today, far more reliable than a BMW, Mercedes and even more so than a Camero or a Mustang. The other aspect is that Dodge is smart to keep the ICONIC, and I mean ICONIC body style without F'ing it up too much. Sadly the Mustang has lost that classic iconic 1960s style and has become a sports car rather than a muscle car. And if you look at the Dodge Challenger since 2008, the body is the same and yet it still looks fresh. Dodge is yet again brilliant for only improving the tech, changing the taillights, hood and wheels on design. That's all they need to do. This is a proven design. Once they start muddling it, it will lose appeal and we don't want that. They are taking a page from Porsche 911's design, which is DON'T mess with it. Improve it YES, but don't F' with the design, thus why it has such a passionate following worldwide. This Challenger can have that. I like manual transmissions too, but when I got my Dodge Challenger last year, I got the 8-speed automatic. Flat out BAD ASS transmission. SUPER responsive. I'm happy I got it. I also have the paddle shifts, but most of the time I am just fine with it in auto since it is WICKED QUICK! So I know Dodge is going to to release a refreshed model for 2021 or 2022 depending on this COVID-19 problem, but hopefully the Body style remains untouched and they update the interior, tech, maybe use the 1972 taillight style, like the 2015-2020 is the 1971 Challenger style and the 2008 - 2014 is the 1970 Dodge Challenger taillight step-up. Honestly they don't need to change that look too much. No need. At any rate it is a near perfect car. 2018 Dodge Challenger Demon set the bar for fastest production drag car in the world, let's hope they continue to set that bar higher in 2021. One thing I would to see if Dodge can bring that 6 cylinder on HP of 305 to 350HP and have a great fuel mileage would be a dream. Hell get SRT involved and make it a HEMI 6. Why not? Porsche does it, Dodge can too.

Not sure when the 6 cylinder came to the Dodge Challenger. I know it wasn't in 2008, but maybe in 2009 to 2014, it used a 3.5 liter with only 250HP. For 2015 to now they improved it with the 3.6 305HP. Big improvement for a 4000 plus pound car. If they can get the 6 up to 350HP, the baseline 8 cylinder 5.7 I would love to see at 425HP, and the SCAT get that baby up to 550 to 600HP. HELLCAT let's go; 800HP to 1000HP. How sick would that be?! The ENGINEERS have a way of finding the possibilities. 12 years ago no one would have thought a 797HP HELLCAT REDEYE would be possible as a production release.

What people don't realize is that compared to a 1970 Challenger 340, the current V6 Challengers like mine are quicker to 60, quicker and faster in the 1/4 mile, have a higher top speed, get double the mileage, stop far better, have all the modern comforts and will easily pull 1.15 g's in a corner where the old car is lucky to pull .8 g's.

We tape very stream of conciousness, and I'm very effusive so in anyone of our videos my reaction, is what is, and in this case I was very much taken off guard, I had actually walked into this video with the experience to dislike it greatly. But I was very taken back, and very wrong, it preformed rather well considering. Thank you for watching and commenting! ~Jason
