I have a 2012 Chrysler Town and Country that I chased a rattle for a few months, I tried this fix first and had no luck. In the back of my mind, I thought perhaps it is a shock but discounted it. I then put it up on the rack twice and touched and moved everything I could think of, I did put some zip ties and a few things and nothing. I was at the point of selling the minivan as it was driving me crazy. So I purchased new gas shocks and no more rattle, I now like my van again. The rubber bushing in the bolt hole was coming apart and letting the shock rattle against the mount. In retrospect, I should have changed out the rear shocks first. Hope this helps if this fix doesn't work.

Thanks for the great video. On my 2019 (too soon to have worn seat hinge bushings), I discovered the thumping rattle in the rear was caused by the top mounts of the shocks being too large a diameter. This left next to no clearance between the top of the shock mount and the body! The sound it made just rolling down the street was unbearable! My mechanic and I traced to to the shocks when we put it up on the lift. To simulate bumps, I started doing pullups on the rear frame near the stabilizer bar. My mechanic could hear the slight popping noise that was transmitted though the rear cargo area as a "thumping rattle". When he wrapped his hand around the Chrysler OEM factory shocks, he told me that there is an unnatural popping vibration. He noticed the top shock mount was damn near touching the body. We assumed that the bushing had some compression under load as the vehicle slightly bounced which was causing the tapping on the bottom of the body or floorboard. We removed both shocks, and as I backed it down the ramp, the back end was bouncing like crazy as the shocks were now off. There wasn't a peep. The noise was gone. We ordered some mid grade Monroe shocks. When the parts company dropped them off, we observed that the diameter of the top mount was way, way smaller than the diameter of the OEM shock absorber!! After installation, I drove away and the quiet ride home was so enjoyable. Who would have ever thought that Chrysler/Dodge could screw up so badly? Hell. Dodge and Carmax couldn't find the noise after two appointments each! Carmax wanted to remove the evaporator case this upcoming Tuesday as they said the noise was coming from there. Before heading to my mechanic for an oil change and another attempt to find the source of the sound, I crawled into the back and rocked the van. Now, the sound was coming from the other side as well. Both shock mounts at the rear, rubbing the body above explained it all! Thank you L. Strom as I will be keeping a close watch on those seat hinge bushings!!! Needless to say, I called Dodge and Carmax to tell them to be on the lookout for this problem. By the way, l also have a vibration in the seat at 65 mph. The wheel balance took care of the vibration at the steering wheel and the rotors are fine. I believe like L Strom, I will be replacing one of the half shaft front axles. It is a shame to have to do all this on a 2019 with 36, 000 miles!!!

It seems to be an inherent problem with all the stow-n-go Caravan generations. Great solution using fuel-line hose with the inner wall reinforcement mesh. That should last decades. In the previous gen-4 Caravans, especially 05,06,07, the very wimpy single leaf spring snaps in half right under the axle cover plate. Thus, going over anything it sounds like all is going to break loose with rattles galore. One good solution is to add the helper spring or Add-A-Leaf. Thanks for sharing. Also those seat mechanisms will corrode in time, you may need to take them out, clean up the corrosion/rust and use a clear lubricant that doesn't stain fabrics. FCA should of used CRS 1020 galvanneal AF120 steel in those areas instead of the cheap zinc coated steel.

Interested if that was the problem because I have recently bought a 2016 TNC and have that rattle problem sounds like the left rear. I'll check the seat also tomorrow but was that the problem with you?

@@rdavid7965 Yes, my rattle was the seat, but only when the seats were stowed, which for me was all of the time. If I put the seats up in the seating position, no rattle.

I have a noise in mine on inside seems like it's in interior from right rear area I checked the seat belts where they hang on side and the adjuster not that..I put back seats in floor noise still there as an it's kinda a deeper rattle noise almost like coming from side door but nothing loose as I checked noise wasn't there until about a month after I bought it. Gonna check the right rear shock next.

Great video. I'll see if this is applicable to my '11 Journey, which produces a fairly solid, nonmetallic knock (actually two knocks, a half second apart) upon accelerating from a stop.
