Спорт

In this weeks episode I talk with Doddy about his views on lightweight eMTB's, specifically the Mondraker Neat, the new SRAM Maven Brakes and the approach ebike manufacturers are taking towards full power, lightweight bikes.

The very reason I bought a norco, the ability to swap the battery from 900ah for 500ah out for long or short rides. Weight change (2+lb) is very noticeable when throwing the bike around in tight technical. 😊😊😊🎉

Please pass this on to Doddy; first the direction you guys are heading/ talking about is right and exciting. We need modular battery options. We need 18/19kg with 60/70 torque 400%. I own an early release Crafty R with smart system fantastic bike but to heavy, I own a Pivot shuttle SL XTR great bike but just down a little on power and the Fazua needs some overrun. I also own a new Crestline limited addition with the Bosch race motor. I live in the Texas hill country and for river bed / rock gardens the race motor is over kill. However the overrun is great. The Crestline is lighter than my Mondraker but to heavy for my terrain. In all the bikes I have to much battery. I ride 2 hours and use 20% in the full power bikes and 35% in the Pivot. I want battery choices 70 torque, 400W assist with 500 watt battery ( quick removable) & 160/150 travel all under 19kg. . Please build a Mondraker like this and put me at the top of your list to ship…. Thanks and I like your new gig.cp

We defo need more powerful brakes on full power e-bikes. I’ve only had my e-bike for a few months, but how hard I have to pull the levers when trying to slow down on steep trails was surprising. I’m not a fanboy of any particular brand but the code rsc, which would feel amazing on a regular bike, just feel meh when trying to slow down my e-bike

Totally agree and don’t feel there is much information out there with regard to after market pads, different disks combinations and just overall brake testing on 25kg rigs.

After riding bosch bikes for years, my new emtb has a shimano ep8 and gotta admit it's super impressive, i seem to using the lower assistance modes compared to bosch on similar terrain and features!

I run an old haibike xduro with 500wh battery, but also purchased another battery via c2w scheme. Riding at trail centres it works perfectly for me , swopping the battery over when required. These new bikes with 750wh batteries weigh a ton !

I agree. 750 is just too much for the majority of most rides. We need options!

Cannondale just released a light weight Full power e bike (under 20kgs), your opinions on the idea of blending both worlds seems to be what they’re striving to achieve. The way e bikes are shifting is very interesting and offering a „Goldilocks“ solution seems to be a viable product in a increasingly saturated market.

Sadly the costs will be far out of reach of most buyers for the time being. Maybe the question is whether lease hire/finance options might tempt people over. Would you pay a £2k deposit then £150 per month to own the bike of your dreams?

Mondraker released a full power EMTB in 2021, that was approx 19.5kg. With a Bosch motor, and 625wh battery. Riders using full power bikes back then wanted the increased range that bigger batteries offered, so we followed with a 750wh battery that then increased the weight. The lightweight category is still developing as motor and battery tech progresses.

Like anything else its horses for courses . A full power is a decent choice if you’re riding in the Alps when the lifts are closed but theres no point in lugging a 25kg bike around the local park

@@EMTBPodcast I hear that. I really like a removable battery though. A 4 or 500w with a optional range extender sold separately would be perfect for me I also don’t see why they should cost more then something with a 700+

Indeed, unfortunately the sound was pretty awful for this one because it was a very last minute thing. Doddy was using his laptop mic so I’m not quite sure where the tapping came from! Thanks for the feedback though 👍

Regarding overrun I have heard of a few front running enduro racers in the uk, no names no pack drill, that have hacked into their software and set up 5 secs to 10 sec of overrun in turbo/ race mode, which almost turns it into a moto in corners and jumps. Legal in competition? Not according to UCI, because the standard manufacturers software has been altered. But easy to spot check by organisers, but depressing trying to compete against cheats, this isn't F1.
