DOCWOB - Husqvarna CR500 Re-build COMPLETED - So many problems!

This week’s DocWob TV is all about these old Huskys! I am proud of this build, inspired by my own racing days. I had a 1985 Husky CR 500 from D&B racing. This was the machine that got me from the seniors to the experts, and then the fun stopped! I have two of these beauties, one for one and one for sale.
These old husky’s are built strong. I run down on what we did, the trick bits, the nasty surprises, the part I had to retrieve out the bin and the part that almost got lobbed out the window in pure frustration, the bits you can’t buy and we made and the part I had to do the salvage job of all time on!
Back in 1985, disc brakes were big news! And the Husky was all singing and all dancing, The left-hand side kick start was quirky admittedly, but the husky was a gem back in the day.
Next, we have the Chesterfield Yamaha update, a 1994 YZ250 to be raced at VMXdN Foxhill in eight weeks, on August bank holiday weekend. There are plenty of VMXdN Foxhill bike builds going on, with bikes to build for Mike Brown, Andrew Short, Sean Lipanovich, Ryan Villopoto, Alessio Chiodi, Leon Capps, and Tommy Searle. It’s a busy few weeks coming up!

Wow!!!!!!!!!!!! Doc I think it’s safe to say that that Husky is the crown jewel of your stable. I’m sure you are over the moon with how it turned out. I loved them back then and I love them even more now. That was a build for the ages. Keep up the great work. ✨🏆✨HUSQVARNA ✨🏆✨

I AGREE WITH YOU THOSE HUSKYS ARE EPIC THEY NEED TO BE IN GLASS CASES ,YOUR WILL WILL NEED TO HAVE STIPULATIONS THAT THEY WILL ALL STAY TOGETHER IN MUSEUM NEVER TO BE BROKEN UP AND SOLD IN FEW HUNDRED YEAR'S THEY WILL BE CLASSED ALONG SIDE ISAMBARD KINGDOM BRUNEL.

I realise the Husky CR 500 is an office artwork and not for riding, but it would be nice to hear the ring a ding ding of her running if only for a a minute or two for us old saddos who raced in this era🤦♂️🤣🤣🤣🏴🇬🇧

What a lovely bike and rebuild as always.👍 I remember those bikes in GP:s Ruskeasanta Finland. Sound of those bikes were so nice, bit like Maico if I remember correct. Those were the days...

Yes it was!
The kick mechanism is made to sit still in the engine while beeing able to take the cover off, that´s why the kick and gear lever is coming with the cover, so you need to learn if doing service at the track :) And, you got the wrong hub in the front wheel, you got an -87 hub. 85/86 hub is floating disc. Nothing wonky about a left kicker, if feeling it is problem, you´re not worthy =)

Doc had a Husky voice losing his wob at the spokes so kicked started the wheel to Talon so Jacky Martens would give him his shirt of his back to bring history back on the big 500.

My 1985 KTM 500 did have a front disc , the rest of it was shite mind you !
I was forced to give up in 91, I got to Schoolboy nationals (uk 100cc) then my dad couldn't get me out to a track anymore than once a week on race days and I needed to be riding 3-4 times a week at least, so ended up stopping racing. Biggest mistake.

Not sure that they were that reliable! There can't have been many of them around even in the day. One of the few was ran by friends of ours, the Maughlings of Supersprox fame. DJ the son rode it as Roger the old man got a deal on one. He must have DNF'd more than they finished which was a shame as there's no doubt the bikes were a trick piece of gear for the time. Pretty sure '85 500 Maicos were water cooled too with front disc.
