Just as Nehru was greedy for power sending Gandhi to London go naked to the British parliament to tell PM Winston Churchill "If you don't give us now, we will attack, kill every British in India." Churchill saw Gandhi was not a reasonable man and to save the lives of British Anglo Indian who had contributed so much to make India great gave in to part with India. At the London India house all the British parliamentarian persuaded Gandhi please wait until London, which was bombed by Hitler, was back in business, repair all the destruction, then, we can gradually transfer power to Indian rule. But Gandhi was adamant, not willing to negotiate, but wanted now, today that what he told Churchill. When Jinnah heard what Gandhi told Churchill, Jinnah used the same language to Nehru. Ha ha ha ha ha ha. We want our own Islamic State of Pakistan, or we will kill every Hindus. That's how India was partition. The rest Indians know the history, why India is still at war with Pakistan. It's all Greed for power. Israel got independence. China became independent, Singapore got Independence after India are leading. India is still lagging. Power, Greed, Corruption, is the root of all evil in India.

Talk to a good lawyer who has read the Indian laws. Then file a case against these corrupt crooks. Indians have been fooled for too long. It is time for the digital generation to take action. You and all like minded should call to meet at a place to debate how to drive all the Chor Politicians out of business. Look how President Trump told Americans "I am going to drain the swamp." I was shocked to hear that. I didn't know much details about British Rules in India. We just been told in school, that it was an occupation and that there was many uprisings against Brits. But I wasn't conscious of this a lot of awful, terrible things that "Great" Britain did to country of India... As Polish I can relate to this massacre, because history of my country know many of them... Like Katyń, where 10 thousands polish soldiers where murdered by Soviets, the same as in Jallianwala Bagh, with cold blood... British government should apologise in public, not only for that crime, but also for all 200 hundred years of oppression and give India back of what they stole. And who cares, like Cameron said, that if they will, there won't be anything left in British Museums. Though!

I also want to tell something which British has covered up. There was a genocide in Bengal which killed 4.2 million Indians. They also operated a prison called Kalapani or cellular Jail, which was much worse than Nazi concentration camp. British also looted 45 trillion dollar and killed over 30 million people through out 200 years of rule.

Completely agree, learning about Indian colonial history, all of this division is artificial and brought on by the British. The creation of separate Hindu Muslim legal frameworks, among other things created these divisions. It’s just so sad seeing how these artificial barriers put in place are still there hurting South Asians and the British have been able to get away from this with little responsibility. They should be forced to pay reparations for this, the peace and prosperity that Britain enjoys is from the stolen wealth and labour of South Asia and the rest of Britain’s global colonial empire. That wealth is stolen, and must be returned with interest.

India has been independent for nearly 80 years, not far from half the time of the entire Raj period, yet there is more conflict now than ever. I forgot many lessons taught in my school but this one I distinctly remember now even after 20 years. It was social science class at the last hour of the day and even though it was 2 paragraphs in my book, my teacher explained all the details of this incident. There was pin drop silence and after class got over, we all felt something heavy. The usual joy of leaving for home after school wasn't there. We all walked out of school in silence only passing comments on how terrible the incident was.

Who instigates the Punjabis to gather at the Bagh? And for what? The Video should not be onesided. Who is the leader? There was British rule. Had the people permission to gather at the Bagh? Good short documentary, clear and to the point. Well-produced. Perhaps there should have been a reference to how the massacre tormented Dyer even to the moment of his death in 1927. The story of Udham Singh has made for separate accounts, but thanks to him, Michael O’Dwyer received his reward in London in 1940. Justice!

@@rohangangar6210 Dear Rohan, I am US-born and raised, of Indian origin (Kerala, actually). The Amritsar Massacre has interested me since my schooldays reading about Mahatma Gandhi. (YEARS ago, around your age.) One fascinating aspect of this wretched affair is the level of support Dyer enjoyed, in government and among the British public. He was hailed in the House of Lords. A leading newspaper led the effort to raise £27,000 on his behalf. He was buried with full military honours. He did his best to justify his actions. But the massacre did torment Dyer: his Army career crashed to a halt; he retired to Britain as a Colonel (not Brigadier-General); and his already shaky health deteriorated further. He was plagued by nightmares. On his deathbed - in his last moments - he told his family: “I just want to die and know from my Maker whether I did right or wrong.” I’m not sympathetic toward Dyer. In fact, I’m glad he paid a price for what he, and his fellow countrymen, thought would save the British Raj. We know it had the opposite effect! As I mentioned, Michael O’Dwyer, Dyer’s number one fan, paid a higher price - however belatedly. Keep up your interest, too, young man, whatever your professional goals! History can be more dramatic than fiction, at times. Look forward to hearing more about you and your views.

History interests me a ton, but having to scavenge through bias and mysteries is not fun. I dislike how many separatists Punjabis go on the offensive. I appreciate this article written about him! This article, for example, begins with one glaring inaccuracy: Sir Michael O’Dwyer was not a general; rather, he was Lieutenant-Governor of Punjab. He led the mass paranoia that India was on the verge of another 1857 Mutiny, and blamed Gandhi for being the main source of trouble. When Brigadier-General Reginald Dyer carried out the massacre at Jallianwalla Bagh, O’Dwyer gave his full approval. In O’Dwyer’s view, those rebellious Indians had to be taught a lesson! He continued his passionate support of Dyer throughout the rest of his life. The article also contains errors about Udham Singh. It is simply wrong to say that he had been forgotten. A statue of him was erected at Jallianwalla Bagh, and some of his ashes kept at the memorial site. A street was renamed in his honour; same for hIs home village. When his remains were returned to India in 1974, Prime Minister Indira Gandhi led the welcoming ceremony. Documentaries and Bollywood films have been made about him. Also, that photograph does not show Udham Singh being led to the gallows. It was taken as he was led out of Caxton Hall, right after he had killed O’Dwyer and wounded three other men. (I doubt he was wearing a tailoured suit at his execution!) And to dismiss Udham Singh as just “crazy” misses the point; the fact that he had planned this for years indicates otherwise. Supposedly he was wounded, as a teenager, at Jallianwalla Bagh. That he wore that suit - no turban or beard - and carried a gun in a hollowed-out book is the mark of someone with a purpose. It is a shame that the current BJP government has “enhanced” the memorial at Amritsar with light shows and other tacky elements, that historians have said give Jallianwalla Bagh a touristy, Disney-like ambience! Nice going, Mr Modi!

As a Englishman there are parts of my history I’m massively proud of. But there are also parts that I’m massively ashamed of. The fact British soldiers opened fire on unarmed Indians including women and children is a dark part of British colonial rule. This massacre was one part of British colonial history that is shameful and should never be forgotten and should never of happened. RIP all those that died at the round of a British made 303 Enfield rifle that day. Not too mention the mess and damage those riles do. Believe me I’ve shot a 303 Enfield and they are a extremely powerful rifle, even by todays Standards.

It's great to keep the memory alive of the atrocities that scarred India and its people. It is the memories that uphold the truth about history, people, religion, and events. Okay, I think I need to set a few things straight here. There WAS violence against the British during the freedom struggle. The freedom fighter's of India were divided into 2 categories - the moderates (who resisted the Brits by peaceful means) and the extremists, who assassinated British officers and did the bombing, etc. Both these types of freedom fighters had been resisting the Brits since the 1890s and while they made some progress, India wasn't even close to freedom. It was when Gandhi arrived here in 1916 that major progress was made. Gandhi was a blend of moderate and extremist. If you study about all the movements he set in motion to free India, I think you would find it highly difficult to believe he was 'duping' us.

Wherever they go they created chaos! Their whole history is filled with the similar examples.

This a brutal massacre that deeply affects me. Had learnt about it in history class, in school but never understood the gravity of it back then. Imagine a religious gathering being converted to a terrifying blood-bath, that too on Baisakhi Day. Expoiting a gathering that was attended by men, women, elders, children alike.. Later, every measure was taken, to ensure that the victims, got no proper medical treatment. Electricity was put off, water connections were cut and curfew was kept on, till the next day. Next day, the curfew was lifted, just so that people, could burn and bury the 1000s dead. How unfortunate ! We keep condemning Muslim invaders. British rulers and the British Imperialism, were not less brutal. Salute our brave leaders - Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Udham Singh, Sukhdev, Rajguru and many many more, who fought for India's freedom - 2.6 million Indians died for us. Let's never forget their sacrifices. Let's never forget our history. The Indians who still work and happily settle in the England/UK for better prospects, and praise the life and better conditions there, please read our Indian history first.

The British would have told Nehru "how can we apologize, when you are kicking us out of India? Ha ha ha ha ha. I wonder why Gandhi when he went naked to London Parliament did not demand apology? In 1857, the British used only 66000 soldiers and they took over the whole of India with ease ... how come ? ... how could it be ... answer is, these British soldiers were back by hundreds of thousands of Indian recruits. Even till now, ten of millions of India still bend their knee to the British people.
