It still breaks my heart even today, and excuse me for laughing anyways, but I hope humanity learned the lesson even if it took two instances of learning the hard way; Because, why the fuck would we end a war by collectively, and diplomatically, *blaming* a single country and making them pay for the reparations needed? It's the war to end all wars no? So why the fuck would we give a country reasons to retaliate against the rest of the world? Did we actually enjoy the diplomatic conflict? Are we just dumb? Well probably, lol, but again, I hope we learned the lesson the second time.

To build on the pinned (as of writing this) comment: During the First World War, it was known as 'The Great War' or 'The War to End All Wars'. It was considered the single biggest tragedy in human history with no end in sight. In spite of propaganda about needing to win, the population at large believed that there were two outcomes: 1. Humanity would wipe itself out or 2. We would somehow survive, with the horrors ensuring we would never go to war again. The poor captain has just been told that while humanity would survive, there would be another war, likely many more. That would be beyond heartbreaking, it would be soulcrushing. He would have to be leveraging all his willpower just to not break at the knowledge that humanity could possibly inflict such damage on itself a second time, when everyone on the planet " *knew* " it couldn't possibly happen again.

The Russian soldier wouldn't be surprised though. Years of fighting in the eastern front, humiliating defeats in many battles, loss of morale on Russian soldiers, and civil unrest back in the capital made it simplier that a revolution was underway. Even foreign officials warned Tsar Nicholas that a revolution was going to happen if the war effort on the Russian side collaped. If anything, the soldier would have expected it. He probably would respond "before" or "during" the revolution.

In more or less the same context as the phrase "World War Three" is currently used, then? The Doctor used to be an outcast just because. She wasn't special in any other way than having a different outlook on things than most of her species. Now? Everything she did in what we know of her past and present lives is subconscious, up to her choosing the name "the Doctor" way back then. She's smarter, more crafty, not from her personality anymore, but from birth. I don't especially mind the concept of the Timeless Child, I just wish it wasn't the Doctor. Not know this episodes context I imagine his reaction would vary depending on WHEN he was taken and how far the war had gone. If it was early on he may not have been to shocked many believed the war would be over by Christmas but the early loss of life was immense. If it was in the middle of the war say 1916-17 it would conflicting their would be a relief that the war actually ended at all but terror because the loss by the stage was so immense that the thought of it happening again would be crushing. The view of WW1 (then called the Great War) as a War to end all Wars was not a common view at the time. Yes it was popularized by HG Wells but many would still not believe it even after the war ended. Even right after the armistice there were multiple small scale wars happening everywhere

No sane nation would accept them. Germany said they would support the AH no matter what. Serbia refused, AH invaded. This pissed Russia off who got involved, which was what Germany wanted. Germany Declared war on Russia. France declared war on Germany as part of its alliance. Again what Germany wanted. WWII was started by the Nazis.
