There's an audio story where Davros uses the Mechonoids (he calls them "Juggernauts") as Dalek replacements because he's sick of the Daleks betraying him and only coming for him when they need help. The audio is called "The Juggernauts".

I saw this when it was originally shown. We didn't really notice the bad Clone. Don't forget, most of us were watching on a 14 inch screen, from behind the sofa, the other side of our living rooms! It was really poor broadcast in the 60's, just 405 horizontal lines.

It looks very bizarre but I'm now more inclined to check it out. Also, I found it interesting that the whole "Daleks can't go up stairs" thing originated from within the show itself yet it something fans are still annoyed about when non-fans use that same joke.

One thing I loved in this and following stories in this era was the idea that the Daleks have their own pseudo-TARDIS that they’ve invented. I wish that concept returned in New Who. Hasn’t been seen since the sixties and it’d be a nice way to up the ante with the threat of the Daleks and make for an interesting reference to sixties era Doctor Who.

Originally found your channel from the brilliant blu ray unboxing vids (looking forward to season 26's)but have been enjoying these all be it backwards for a few days. I've got to pull you up on what said about the robot doctor though. The reason Hartnell couldn't be used in some single shots to double for the robot is the way the show is produced. It was shot as live with a maximum of 3 video edits and episode (some times due to budget constraints these would be taken up by special effects inserts. So Hartnell would be in another scene ready for the next studio camera to switch in and wouldn't be able to get from one place to the other without stopping the cameras and reshooting. It's why so many of his fluffy lines made it in. The shot you used of the robotdoc, Vicki and Barbara would of had Hartnell on the other side of the studio waiting for the camera to move to him. Interestingly enough there are a few times where movie dalek probs from the 1st cushing film were borrowed and used to bolster numbers in the Dalek time machine. Also I've never heard anyone say Nation was trying to get a Dalek spin off this early. The introduction of the mechaniods was more about giving the popular dalek comic strip and annual a new adversary. The first instance of Nation actively trying to get a dalek spin-off off the ground and show they worked without doctor who was mission to the unknown. Dalek6388 is a great website and youtube channel alllll about everything dalek and I'd highly reccomend it for reference. Lastly I am really enjoying these vids throughout December but I hate it when you use the term Tardis team.... its a term from the newest of the old series and it greats on me. Especially since hartnell almost exclusively calls the Tardis "The Ship". Even so keep up the good work

Long before Destiny, Terry Nation felt a need to send up his creations. The comedy often lands flat and the next story he writes feels like an apology for it by being an epic and high-stakes deadly gambit. Didn't know he had to cobble it up so quickly. That explains a lot. How can Ian duck a Dalek blast so quickly? Nice laugh track you put in! 👍 Also, 1:29 Daleks got to them and shot first? Nope. Their music acts like a shield. Didn't stop James Bond from using earmuffs on while listening to them! Also, Krusty! 🤣 kudos to the production team for trying to make the battle look big, but Mechonoids on screen for 3 minutes tops didn't really make their resultant battle compelling. Seeing the promotional photo of Verity using one as a novelty cigarette lighter was. Because that was just weird in a cool way.

This story is not good on a script level but it's so insane and crazy I do really enjoy watching it. The approach to comedy is really good and I'd love to see more farcical stuff like this (although The Romans is even better in that regard earlier in the series). It's a massive guilty pleasure. I think that the Dalek/Mechanoid mythology is insanely fascinating and I'd love to see the Mechanoids return in a more serious story because their segment in this story is by far the best bit.

I've just watched this story and checked in for a review. I quite liked it overall, but then I do enjoy the idea of covering multiple places and scenarios and with the added element of danger because they are being chased through time and space. I couldn't understand a word the Mechanoids were saying so that was ... interesting. I'd say, given the time and budget, the battle scene between the Daleks and Mechanoids was more of an abstract idea than a practical one (which likely would have looked naff), its a creative way around the barriers of the time so I applaud the production crew for that. It was sad to see Ian and Barbara leave but another stellar performance from Hartnell as he didn't want them to go but also didn't want to show it.

Hear me out when I say maybe the difference in how Daleks talk scene-to-scene from dramatic soliloquies about conquering the universe to one shouting “hostile plantlife: destroy!” And the other going “you destroy! You destroy!” is because the less intelligent of the bunch are Dalek Children. They’re newly-spawned mutants that have just got their first travel machines and are just learning how to talk. Sort of goes unremarked, but I suppose this is the unceremonious end of the era of companions being stuck with the Doctor against their will because he lacks the ability to return them home... with the lone (and temporary) exception of Tegan, of course. But in general, those days are over. Nobody's looking or longing for home anymore. Probably for the best. That kind of Gilligan's Island, Quantum Leap, Incredible Hulk dynamic - where if the main characters ever get what they truly want, then their story is over, so you can be absolutely certain that it won't happen in any random episode - tends to wear thin pretty quickly.

Time TV, pirates, American cowboys, a haunted house with Dracula & Frankenstein's Monster body slamming Daleks (just like Mary Shelly wrote) and the Mechonoids trying to take the no1 villain job....it would have been wild. Title would have been "the Dalek time chase/chase through time" or something else particularly 60's and groovy.

Scooby doo is right my friend, at first I thought they were the real Dracula and Frankenstein’s monster (which the doctor theorised were willed into existence by the human imagination), but I’ve recently watched the chase and like the tenth doctor’s clockwork droid episode we see something he doesn’t. A ticket booth. The doctor and his companions had in fact landed in an abandoned haunted house attraction and Count Dracula and Frankenstein’s monster are just a couple of malfunctioning wax droids, which I found was a bit of a disappointment.

The chase is my favorite story from William Hartnell's time.

The Chase is very easy to understand if you just grasp the concept that it's three separate 2-part stories, linked together. As for the Daleks fighting Frankenstein and Dracula, it's 100% explicit that they were animatronics, not the real thing. That's the real sin, that the Daleks were defeated by funhouse robots.

If I had a nickel for every time Space Nazis visited the Empire State Building I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice

In the story the Daleks visit the Empire State Building. Just to see Peter Purvis do a terrible American accent. Next time they visit let’s hope there are people a better accent.

I always found Barbara and Ian really irritating most of the time - Barbara more than Ian lol. I preferred Steven. Vikki was good.

Loving this series so far - I wonder how Destiny will fair in your review. That, to me, is among the worst Dalek stories to date.
