In the 2nd episode he suits the wig and blue suit better but there was scene where he looked older and acted older and I thought, “ play it like that” but back to the awful goofiness and campiness. Had he had better guidance and better direction then he could have succeeded but then again had he not been Black and Gay then he would never have been given the role. Time to let this Show die. RIP Dr Who.
@GareWorks
26 күн бұрын
@@tortysoft I watched it. It was trash, just like your excuse that it did some "splendid" things. What splendid things? Disney-tier visual effects? Not hard when you throw a bunch of money and graphic artists at it. The music? Murray Gold is talented but it was pretty reigned-in and passionless. The acting was subpar, mostly over-the-top in the worst way, as if they're off their ADHD meds, even though I'm pretty sure most of them _can_ act (so some of that is definitely down to poor directing). The writing and pacing were all over the place, and most of the story is just recycled from the last time RTD worked on this show (but worse). I could go on. Point is, you're being far too lenient on this completely nonsensical, uninspired garbage. Besides, if we consider that the BBC can't even afford to fund this show any more, to argue that it will still be around for years to come seems pretty naive. Disney is unlikely to make back their money on the two seasons they've ordered, and then what? Do they fund more if it won't turn a profit? Does the BBC pony up more money? There have been talks of cancelling it again in recent years, and I think it's inevitable that it will indeed be cancelled once more. It'll probably get revived again one day, but I doubt it'll continue in its current state.

The ending is worse than that. The space station isn't powered by baby poop gas, as it doesn't have any engines. Its just a bit of thrust from the decompressed poop storage unit. Even if they pointed in the right direction & escape orbit of planet "Pacifico Del Rio" (which Ruby thought was in English) they will be drifting for months with no means of navigation or slowing down at the end of the trip. The more someone actually thinks of the episode, the stupider it gets. RTD does not understand what "the butterfly effect" is, how biological evolution works nor much of a grasp on physics or space flight. It truly has gone from Sci-Fi to Fantasy, specifically RTD's weird fantasies.

Davies is trying to recall elements from his earlier stories, The End of the World for one (Ruby, like Rose, looking out a giant window at her first sight of outer space, using the super-phone to call her mother back in 2024, just as Rose called Jackie back in 2005), with some inspiration from Partners in Crime as well (alien babies, a nanny/foster mother looking after them). But unlike those earlier stories, and especially unlike The End of the World, which remains one of my favourite Doctor Who stories because it got me into the show back in 2005, Space Babies lacked any subtlety or nuance or poignancy. The dialogue was eye-rolling, cringe-worthily bad; the acting was dreadful, Millie Gibson cannot act, Gatwa was awful, he dresses like a gay bodybuilder and never once convinced me this is the same person as Eccleston, Tennant, Smith or Capaldi before him: the Doctor is a white British male, for a reason, to maintain some continuity and consistency of the character, despite the changes in his personality and appearance. The plot was terrible, nobody in his right mind would take inspiration from Baby Geniuses, it was trying to be cutesy but ended up feeling like a gross parody of Doctor Who, the bogey monster was daft and reminded me of the vindaloo beast from Red Dwarf, only worse; the Doctor's sudden sympathy for the monster, because it's also one of a kind, was weird, when the monster only exists to scare people, it's not like it had a personality or sentience, so why was the Doctor trying to save it? Overall, it was really bad. The Devil's Chord was much worse, however. Davies has thrown the rulebook out of the window, and with that any respect I once had for him as a writer.

As someone who has canceled their TV tax license I still can't believe they make it mandatory to pay for this shit despite getting back handers from the Mouse (Disney) disgusting To the original fans they inform us today "This show wasn't made for you" Tomorrow they'll be asking "Why aren't you watching our show?"
Thanks for the review, much appreciated. Good to hear your voice again
Never in my life have I stepped on a butterfly. Ridiculous. Didn’t watch, don’t care.
I left a comment here 2 hours ago and got a message from you tube to say it was very very bad and they might stop me making comments in future. Never watching another video about this ex.tv show. It's a dead horse. bye all
Hail our favourite angry Canadian! Keep the passion Uncle B!
I am so grateful to reviewers like you who watch this steaming pile, just so I don't have to anymore.
Amen to that Bowlestrek, what a total and utter Sh*t-show those two episodes were!!! And Yes, I really don't give a flying F*ck about this show anymore; IMHO: it died at the end of Twice upon a Time.
2:40 I _sat_ through that plot line and _I_ don't even remember where it went. "Did a 6-Year-Old write this?" Well, considering RTD2 is behaving like a kid throwing a tantrum, yeah.
Thank you Bowlestrek. I appreciate the angst, but I'm beginning to feel guilty about you hurting yourself for my amused schadenfreude. I'll keep giving upvotes but...

Yeah, he's watching utter garbage to we don't have too, I salute him.
Brilliant diatribe.
The only reason to justify the continued existence of DW is videos like this
This review is as close as I get to watching the actual episode - 'good lord' is right.
I feel your pain. Hell, I dropped DW ever since the 13th Doctor crap. Now every time I scroll down on FB there's another post about this crap. Even if you close it off (because No Attention is the best weapon against this) I'll find another article about it popping up. It's like mold...you can never truly be rid of it...
If you know about the timless child how did you not notice in the same season that gallifrey was destroyed?...
@GareWorks

It wasn't really destroyed though, it was more just raised to the ground.

@GareWorks except the master actually destroyed gallifrey after discovering the doctor being the timless child and in fact the destruction of gallifrey was shown before the timeless child reveal and yet bolstrick was so busy making up a white male villan in fugitive of the judoon that he missed a plot point that came before the point in jodies run that he claims to have stopped watching her run.
Listening to this at 1.75 speed is really funny. Probably not for the intended reasons
i think it is time for you to stop watching that shit, for your health
RTD said that 10/14th Doctor is dead. He died in Venice in 2063 when Venice flooded. David Tenant will never be the doctor again.

Doctor Who didn't die in 1996. Don't be do dramatic🤡💀🤣😂
"a musical together"...... OMFG, the horror!!!! Don't give them any ideas FFS.

THIS! Does simple orbital mechanics fly over their heads? Those babies are doomed, they clearly didn't have enough deltaV to escape the orbit and if they did they had no way to slow down!
Admit it. You stop watching. You stop existing
@6:34 the Dr’s outfit…. Oof
It's so odd they still want the attention of the people they told to go away.
Even watching this review was painful to get through how you managed to make it through the episode bowl is far beyond me. God speed sir.
RTD is the Anakin Skywalker of Doctor Who
Thanks again for putting yourself through this so we don't have to.
Never change, Bowlestrek! You're a national treasure...

When Dr Who came back in 2005, I remember a joke. "Q. How many Classic Who fans does it take to change a light-bulb? A. None. Classic Who fans don't like change." Since then I've been waiting for the time when this would apply to the new fans. Welcome on board. Annoying isn't it?
