I vaguely recall some people back then were already jumping at shadows regarding "diverse casting" and the shifting toward more liberal talking points in other aspects of the film and TV industry but such callouts were frowned upon heavily back then and they weren't exactly common either. As to whether they were onto something or just paranoid I will let you decide.

There were issues with race back in the day. The doctor cucked Rose's boyfriend and Clara's. He rejected Martha and when he lost his memory he fell in love with another white woman. I wasn't watching for Bill's time, they just killed her. Now we have an effeminate gay black man as the doctor. The show is totally cool with Rory, he never got any disrespect. Mess up his relationship.

A Martha and Mickey spinoff show would've been great... 15 years ago. Nobody wants a spinoff about Martha Jones now: they'd only ruin the character like they did with Donna in the 60th specials. Personally, I'd rather see a spinoff focused on the Companion Support Group from The Power of the Doctor: a series of half-hour specials where the old companions swap stories about their adventures with the Doctor. Mel tells a story about a 'missing adventure' with the Sixth Doctor, Jo similarly tells a story about the Third Doctor, and so on. The flashbacks could be animated and fully voiced.

I sort of dont want to see any spin offs at all after what RTD has done this last season with Gatwa. Sarah Jane Adventures were great in their day but I wish they would focus on getting Doctor Who right and some good stories there. Rather then flogging a spin off from a show that is failing badly. Who would write it? And is RTD capable of writing it well? No not at all after this last Doctor Who season has shown. And Martha??? She was pretty bland as a character and not around long enough to make much impact. Why not do a Leela spin off? Or a Romana spin off with her and K9 in E-Space etc after leaving the fourth Doctor....But like I say the writing would not be up to the task. Also where is the money coming from to do this? Disney? They might be bailing out on the show so the budget is going to be affected...And the ratings for the next full season of Doctor Who are only going to continue to decline....

Correction, in doctor who he was bisexual but in torchwood they made him way more gay. Sure they mention he is into anything and everything but he consistently seemed more interested in guys in torchwood whereas in doctor who he just seemed like he would hit on male, female or aliens with no specifications

Her crushing on Tennant’s Doctor was integral to her characters story and was well paid off in Martha’s personal growth and eventually moving on from the Doctor to pursue her own course. However! Last I read Freeman is Roman Catholic etc so its unlikely she is gay but they might flip it to that for her character. She has been in some lesbian drama where she gets all her kit off and romps with a girl, pictures and video all over online on those sort of sites. She has not done a lot of work since Doctor Who, some parts in dramas like Little Dorrit and Law and Order Uk etc, she was even in that Survivors reboot for two episodes but lately seems to have dropped off the map work wise...She has not done anything since last year...

I looked her up to see what she was doing and she has come out as Bi / Lesb in real life and has a few parts in plays since Doctor Who but not much else....You would have thought they would use her etc..but she was the Moffat era. You can see the various producers favour the actors they worked with over others, so Whitaker got the Who role off the back of Chibnall and Broadchurch. That and being the fourth choice as the other three actresses the really wanted turned it down...etc...So Freeman is a RTD actress and character, he was bound to use her. Cant do Captain Bent Gayness as he is cancelled...Tate and Piper are busy doing other things and have careers of their own that are more successful.

The spin off is not about Martha Jones, it’s called the war between the land and the sea which has unit in it

One would think that actors, actresses, writers, and others would want to stay away from a big mess getting even messier. They would at least want to protect their reputations for future prospects. The weirdos running the show (into the ground) are unlikely to hold their positions forever (maybe wishful thinking on our part).

I never saw any race backlash to Martha, heck me and my wife loved her. I thought she was a great companion and I enjoyed her opposite Tennant. I am so disappointed to hear that she has been doing the victim tour. Really sad to find out she's not above this crap.

I believe the spin off was part of the agreement with Disney to have 2 main seasons, specials and a spin off. So this technically got green lit a year or two ago.

it didn't meet the threshold for criminal investigation, it's not the same as being cleared of all charges. most of the things he was accused of were not criminal in the first place (verbal abuse and bullying), but they were witnessed by his co-stars and producers. his behaviour is reportedly one of the reasons Eccleston left in 2005

We saw the final adventure of River Song in her personal timeline before her death in 2008. So you really need to get cracking to tell that ‘meeting in different personal chronologies’ story quickly as the actor can only pass for the same age as they were in 2008 for so long. It takes far longer for a voice to age too much*, so Big Finish was the obvious home for a River spin off series released over many years. *let’s be honest it has happened to Who actors on audio. I listened to a bit of a Tom Big Finish with Mary Tamm and her voice was barely recognisable as the Romans from The Key To Time season. More casual audiences probably would have supported a River Song mini series when Matt Smith left. After that interest in the main series itself started to drop off.

Wow, Disney is just burning money like mad. At this rate, somebody would probably sponsor a Doctor Who show where Darth Vader dresses up like a ballerina and dances around on the Tardis, and Disney would pay top dollar for it.

I've no great objection to Martha, but a spin-off based on the Companions' Support Group would have been massively more entertaining!

they've killed doctor who

Doctor Who has been woke ever since it came back in 2005. So you can't tell me "Woke destroys everything!", it's all about the writing and direction. Don't be mad because you see people of diverse sexualities and race are shown on screen.

I started listening, gave you 30 seconds and realised I might catch stupid, so I left.

Nothing like bringing back a character that everyone has fond memories of and jamming it in their face that its been 15 years and now shes a woke middle aged woman. There is no way they wont make her obnoxious & man hating. itll be as popular as sitting in 9th grade grammar class.

Martha Jones was one of the best companions in Doctor Who, and I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to create a good series with her as a protagonist. She could be an agent assigned to help protect the Earth from alien threats or some such. Similarly for Rose Tyler. But given the current management at the BBC this new series will obviously be woke trash, so I have no interest in it.

How is this woke? Martha Jones has been universally loved for 17 years now and has been the most requested companion return as she’s the only one who could ever feasibly come back. Until RTD ruined Donna’s exit. Series 14 was insufferably woke, the worst era of Doctor who of all time and has the worst doctor we have ever had, a simply awful awful casting choice and I hope the whole show dies on its arse. But a Martha Jones spin off is not woke at all, fantastic companion, fantastic actress. If anything the worst thing about this news is she’ll have to actually lower herself to appearing in series 15 of this crap with the god awful Ncuti so she can be introduced to the new audience. The new audience of about 25 mind you but a new audience non the less But Martha’s mere existence being woke? You’re talking absolute rubbish here

I didn't like her the first time. I liked Jack Harkness, Amy Pond, Rose Tyler, Sarah Jane Smith, K-9, Leela, Romana (the second one), Teegan, Wilfred Mott, River Song and then I pretty much stopped watching as the quality started diminishing.

Here's an unhappy thought: Dis-ney is $49 Billion in depth. Could they just be using this entire franchise, crashing it on purpose, to enlarge a tax writeoff greater than the actual cost of producing it?

They already ruined the Doctor Donna and Davros. I guess martha isn't safe either
