Among the items Mel finds in the TARDIS are the Sixth Doctor's multi-coloured coat, and the Seventh Doctor's pullover. There's a bunch of other nostalgia-based stuff, including the WHO 1 licence plate of the Third Doctor's vintage car, Bessie, and K-9's head.

RTD has said the reason for 8 episodes (plus Christmas episode) is that Doctor Who isn't filmed in a sound studio like many shows. they travel to different locations and has a really taxing and laborious filming schedule. For that reason, it limits the actors who play Doctor and Companion(s) from taking on other roles in between seasons. It's why series 4 ends with 5 special, David Tenant took a role on stage and couldn't commit. It happens several times throughout the show, we'd sometimes get a year or two between episodes. RTD has promised that by giving us 9 per year, we will get it every year with no gaps. He also promised us some spin-offs to keep us entertained in between each series.

For this season, introducing a new Doctor and a new companion, it needed more than 9 episodes...especially when a couple were Doctore-light. Also, personally, I'm a fan of the 2-parters and arcing episodes.

@@wendypow1963 I don't disagree with you. I understand why they want to go to smaller number of episodes but doesn't mean I like it lol. I'm holding out for the spin offs though. I feel like they had time to film something that could plug the gap between now and Christmas.

EIGHT. For boldness. This is not from the greatest season of #DoctorWho (I think you might understand if I say that Season Four would use this season to wipe its butt :) ) but I thoroughly enjoyed the bold choices with story and tone. I have to admit, though, I haven't been so excited about #DoctorWho *since* Season 4. So take that as you will. THANKS for your hard work this season!!!! @Syntell and @nupefromdaville, do you two realize when you finish Season 4, you'll have watched and reacted to *five* seasons of "Doctor Who?" And do you realize when you finish, it'll only be about *one-third of Nu Who and Nu Nu (Disney) Who?* WOW!!!!

I assume the pointing at the sign post, she was hoping it would be picked up on the security cameras? But didn't take into account the snow making it impossible to see what she was doing. Same with the hiding her face. She *15* and it was clear her home life was Not Good, so she wouldn't want to be identified (by the cameras or anyone else) and the baby potentially brought back to her/that house.

I *loved* this episode despite itself. Like the Doctor's math, the negatives for me have to equal a great positive. You're right: there are many unanswered questions and those that were answered were not done well. So, for example, who was Ruby's mother pointing to the sign for: the CCTV cameras (my guess)? And what about the snow? And what about what the Maestro said about Ruby? And what about....? RTD 1.0 was much tighter, in my opinion.

You're dead right about the original TARDIS being in black and white. The show didn't go into colour until 1970 (which is also the point from which all episodes exist - a lot of stuff featuring the first and second Doctors doesn't exist anymore).

According to the commentary, once the Doctor ran back into the TARDIS when he'd trapped Sutekh, he dropped the whistle down a chute that led to the memory TARDIS where it lands in the hand of his earlier self. That got cut, though, so the whistle just vanishes from round his neck.

The other version of the TARDIS was from "The Tales of the TARDIS" which was callback from all different eras called the memory TARDIS. You guys should had checked out "Pyramids of Mars" before going into this episode to get an idea and the context of Sutekh. The other Doctor with the curly hair and scarf that was shown in the old footage on the tablet was The Fourth Doctor (Tom Baker) one of the longest serving Doctors and the most popular Doctors ti date and his then companion Sarah Jane Smith (Elisabeth Sladen) which was footage from the episode "Pyramids of Mars". The colourful coat Mel hugs belonged to the Sixth Doctor (Colin Baker) and the question mark jumper Mel uses as a blanket belonged to the Seventh Doctor (Sylvester McCoy) as she travelled with both those Doctors. You see the issue i have with this disney era of Dr. Who is it seems to be about the special effects with RTD it's not about the big budget or the special effects it's about the storytelling and characters bring back the good old days of bubble wrap and tinfoil hats and robots in my opinion. This episode was mostly good but the ending with Ruby and her mother was a huge letdown and the most cop-out of a finale and I'm not the biggest fan of the CGI sutekh I think a normal actor with the original costume would had worked just as well and the most effective but the defeat of the most powerful gods with the rope was lazily written i thought.

whats crazy now is if we go back and look at the series in retrospect knowing the big secret of ruby... imagine 73 years. that woman at 73 yards seemingly being old ruby herself... everyone that woman talks to runs away in fear. we assumed she was revealing something about ruby... now imagine every time she whispers to the "shes ORDINARY!" then everyone runs away in fear lol. seems comical now. but lets also keep in mind whatever old ruby said even to unit, even to rubys adoptive mother.... they all shun her after that. wth..... and because shes so extremely ordinary that she somehow became special?

Clips shown on the tablet/tv screen were from the The Pyramids of Mars, the episode where Sutekh first appeared, with the 4th Doctor, played by Tom Baker, and his companion, Sarah Jane Smith. Interestingly, Gabriel Woolf who provides the voice of Sutekh, ALSO voiced him back in The Pyramids of Mars AND he was the voice of The Beast in The Satan Pit/Impossible Planet. They said that Ruby's mom never looked for her but like, how could she? It wasn't like she had any idea who would have found her, or where she would have ended up. For all she knew, someone found and adopted her and they moved across the world. It wasn't like she gave her up for adoption and wen through all that paperwork, she, a scared teen, left her by a church. She didn't even have a name to go on. Sure SHE called her Ruby, but there was no guarantee that the ones who found her/adopted her would name her that. If Ruby had to time travel to the FUTURE to find her mom, who hope did her *mom* have of finding her the normal way????? Honestly I don't blame her for not looking/finding her (and for all we know maybe she did but turned up nothing).

Next season, it will be the 15th season and the 15th Doctor. And the 13th Doctor had the 13th season. Well, the 1st Doctor had the 1st season, but that was inevitable. This is what seasons are now, I guess. Everything seems to be 6-8 episodes. Two negatives make a positive, right? ;) "I named her" would be past tense even if her daughter were alive. She named her when she was born, presumably. The pointing doesn't make any sense and I didn't like "real mum," but overall, a good episode. I think death will continue whether there is Sutekh or not, but we'll see. I thought Ruby's birth mom looked a bit like Jenny, so that threw me for a second. Somebody said they should have had it look like a cloak all out of focus but then when you get in focus, it's a teenage girl in a hoodie or sweats or whatever. I don't so much mind her and Ruby being ordinary people, but there should have been some explanations for the show, etc.

After watching it again, I’m starting to Think that the hooded figure was not Ruby’s mother, and is part of the pantheon. When Ruby held up the screen for Sutekh To see, his reply was “I’ve waited so long”. That seems like a meaningful reply from him. Being that he is immortal, and that he cares nothing for life, but sees it as an abomination, I don’t think the cloaked figure was human. I mean, unless I’m wrong, we never actually see that cloaked figure put Ruby on the steps of the church, do we? Also, the Maestro said that the song could only be that powerful in Ruby if “the oldest one” was there. But then later, they said that “he who waits” is coming. It sounds like those are two different beings. I feel like if Millie is going to be in season two, they’re going to continue to explain why it snows when ever she talks about her birth and who that cloaked figure actually is.

I have a question. No, I have *all* the questions…but I didn’t want to put them as my original post. 😂 * If the death of death is life, then wouldn’t every single person or being who had ever died through all of history be resurrected at the end? * Why when they’re in the time window, does Ruby’s mom glitch if she’s nothing special? * Why did the doctor send Ruby into the time window when he realized something was wrong, but didn’t yet know it was Sutekh? * If Sutekh can see through all dead cells, then shouldn’t he have known that Ruby‘s mom was a normal human? * If Ruby‘s mother is normal, then why does it snow every time they remember Ruby’s birth? * They still do not explain how the tardis showed up again a few seconds later in the time window with Surekh wrapped around it. Was that just in the time window? Did he actually take the tardis back there to 2004? And if he was in the past, then why is he in color in the time window? * If he is the god of death, then how in the world did he make life? How did he make a Susan on every planet that he landed? He only creates death and harbingers. * It doesn’t make any sense for Sutekh being dragged behind the tardis to be what brings people back to life. If the death of death is life, then the *death* of Sutekh would’ve been what brought life back to the universe, not him being dragged behind the tardis like a downed skier behind a boat. * If Ruby‘s mother was normal, then how did the memory keep changing? * How was Sutekh able to touch the sides of the time vortex while he was being dragged, but then as soon as the rope is cut he burns up? * The lady on that barren planet said that memories are dying. Why would the memories be dying? Everybody else dying wouldn’t affect time. I’ve been a DW fan for over a decade, but I have to admit that was one of the weakest season finales I’ve seen. I’m really hoping there is more to the story and we’ll get some good info in the next season. Ncuti and Millie did an amazing job, as always. I also loved the CGI when Sutekh turns the Tardis like a toy. I really thought that was a practical effect!

Nice to see Tom & Sarah-Jane (who' is wearing 2nd doctor companion Victoria's dress) in the Tales of the Tardis "special edition" version of Pyramids of Mars on the time window tablet screen. Also nice touchto see that colourised Susan Foreman(doctors grand-daughter) but there was a lot of speculation that they'd bring Susan back (especially as Carole Ann Ford who plays her is 84 especially as 3 weeks ago we lost one of the other original companions William Russell at 99 - you guy's didn't get the tribute title card at the end that we did). Rekkai is largely on the money about story over effects - this series got the effects but at the expense of the story in some episodes including this finale - which seems to have gone down badly with alot of people from what i've seen.

If I can't pick 7... this season was closer to a 6 for me. A lot of the individual episodes were good to great, Ncuti and Millie gave great performances, but there was a lot of really experimental stuff, too many Doctor-lite episodes, the tone of the season was all over the place, and the finale really wasn't satisfying for me. So while I enjoyed most of the episodes, when they're all put together like they are, the whole becomes less than the sum of its parts. It might have helped if the series had been a few episodes longer -- it needed more time to breathe, I think.

FYI, I think Molly Gibson was 19 or 20 years old when filming this season. She quickly grew on me. I've enjoyed Ncuti since day one. Some highs and some middling episodes this season where it felt that too much was being compressed into fewer episodes. As such, and since we're not allowed to give it a 7 rating, I'll give it an 8 - 0.5 (aka a 7.5). I think the tale isn't complete yet. Regarding why the Doctor doesn't know who his granddaughter's mother is, it's all timey-wimey and you note in prior seasons how the Doctor meets pivotal people out of sync. So, this Doctor can remember Susan without remembering Susan's mother/his wife.

Maybe there's more coming. Ruby's resolution was too perfect. Maybe we still have more coming. There's still her father and The Doctor's com 44:45 ing tragedy. I hope, anyway. And The Doctor's reference to two shades of red with Ruby and Rose. Then you 44:59 have Cherry and Mr. Garnet, Ruby's dad. The red has to be some kind of clue. Or a red herring.

I found the Ruby reveal to be reaffirming personally. It was the right choice in The Last Jedi, and the right choice here. I am curious to know how real orphans/ foundlings would find a reveal of Ruby being space Moses, would they find it insulting? Sutekh is so OP you can't really do much with him. I love the visuals of him draped over the TARDIS.

However I enjoyed this season and I think Ncuti has been a great Doctor with his acting and his energy.

I give the season around a 5 - but there's many factors to that. Late onset epilepsy and the drugs involved have been messing me round, which I think is why I just couldn't connect emotionally to any story. The writing was quite often low grade, with a lot of *very* familiar stories, and even brilliant performances couldn't rescue some of it. I really liked the energy of both Ncuti and Millie, but again, found it really hard to actually care about their characters. That was exacerbated by 73 Yards - Millie's performance was awesome, Ruby's behaviour with Marti was beyond cruel and the fact the whole experience was undone didn't change the fact she threw an innocent girl under the bus. The only episode i actually enjoyed was "Bubble and Dot", _because_ of the cruelty, which is not the way I usually feel about the generally family friendly Doctor Who. I'm hoping that this was just a bumpy season due to the change in bosses, and next will improve a bit, but given I gave up watching episodes on the day they dropped (a definite change in behaviour) I'm wondering if I've just disconnected at my end. My housemate is still having a ball though, so I'm glad for him.

You posted late so you got 2 likes from me today, I watched half on my work laptop, and now finishing on this account for the wrap-up. Why can't you pick 7s? I give this ep an 8, but this season D&B, Boom, 73 + part 1 of this story, I gave 9.5s to as excellent. Ncuti is an excellent Doctor and I hope he stays for many years. Next Season will star Ncuti & Verada Sethu, and for some of it - Millie Gibson. Verada was in Boom, but we think she's playing a diff character. Like Freema in Series 2 before cast as Martha, or Peter Capaldi in Fires of Pompeii will come back again as you already know from your prior convos. I think this ep is getting a lot of unnecessary hate for a lot of the reasons you outlined, but done from a far more dark place. A lot of hard corp fans seem legit pissed by this ending not being all they wanted. And then people like yourselves, or even more casual fans, they have remarks but they feel entertained and generally happy. Can Doctor WHO do better? Sure. Was this awful? No. This was pretty good, but fell short of greatness by a few key decisions that didn't pan out. But w/Mrs Flood, the snow, Rogue and another character's boss being a mystery, and the thing with gravity, there is room for Series 2/15 to fill in a lot of gaps and make this better. I think The Doctor is either guessing about the road sign thing, or lying to Ruby in a way that she'll believe to protect her from something else. He knows the snow and the song isn't resolved so will keep an eye out. He's no dummy, he knew Mel wasn't Mel right? OH and the Memory TARDIS is bits and pieces of ALL the TARDIS console rooms over the last 60 years. There is a cool TARDIS tour that the Mel actress Bonnie Langford takes on the official Doctor WHO YT channel that's worth seeing if you want to see all the references. And Finally the callback in the beginning was to the 4th Doctor, not 1st. He was with Sarah Jane when he faced Sutekh.

Just think in every episode you watch, Suetkh is on the Tardis. I just have to say that it’s only an exceptionally loud minority of bigots that call themselves fans that all of a sudden hate the 13th & 15th Doctors. It’s the same sad wankers who whinge about Star Wars and Star Trek turning “woke”. They are simply fueling hate for clicks because clicks get them paid. Ignore those clowns. The vast majority of true fans are not like that. We have criticisms for stores whether they are Classic, Nu or Disney, but they are based on the merits of the stories themselves, nothing else. I love that you guys have found this show. And I love that it was the casting of Ncuti that peaked your initial interest.

The lesson was okay, the mystery was engaging, the execution of the finale, was just not good. I'm sorry but, not good. I kinda wanted her to be related to the Doctor in some way. I kinda wanted that to give us a little more reason why Ruby and the Doctor were so close. So many Doctor Light episodes, I feel like making it more familial, would have made more of an impact.

  • @AJ-rp7ux
    @AJ-rp7ux3 күн бұрын

The actors are a 10 out of 10. The stories are 6 out of 10. Sutekh was a 2 out of 10 for lousy CGI that never stopped reminding us it was CGI. Sutekh doesn't fit in with the 'pantheon of gods' shown thus far. I can believe the Toymaker and Maestro are related. Sutekh an oddball pick to feature this season, and yes, I grew up watching Tom Baker and know Sutekh's original appearance. Four of the episodes were great (Devil's Chord, Boom, 73 Yards, Rogue), but the season arc was a train wreck spoiling the finale. I reject that Millie is an ordinary human from an ordinary mom because we were persistently given hints of a grand supernatural mystery. I reject that an ordinary mother gave up her baby while wearing a cloak with an apparently invisible face while pointing at a street sign. I mean, what? WHAT? Dot and Bubble had greatness within it, but needlessly killing off Ricky Sunday was unforgivable. Ricky had future story potential defeating the AI across the many planets his people occupy, and then as a civil rights leader or resistance fighter waging war to achieve equality among his people. His race is spacefaring, with an entire planet devoted to housing social media employees, so surely his people have spread to many planets, some of which still survive. Russel T. Davies did something similarly unforgivable killing off most of the characters in Voyage of the Damned. Up to that point, when the Doctor told you he would save you, viewers were in for a ride to see the Doctor pull it off -- and we knew it would happen. We could trust the Doctor when he made that promise. But no, instead we got a bloodbath in that particular story. RTD needs someone to reign him in and give more shape to his ideas sometimes. So, sure, give us Dot & Bubble featuring the most annoying characters ever written for 43 minutes, surprise us with one nice person, and then kill the nice person. I mean, okay, if that was the point of the story. But no, the point of the story was racism, and Ricky was murdered simply because he no longer served a function in the story. I give the season 6 out of 10 just because the bad stories had glaring issues. I love the cast. I hope RTD listens to the non-bigoted portion of his critics, regroups, and gives us a banger of a second season. My advice in that regard is fewer stories written by RTD, and more stories written by everyone else. Keep Steven Moffat on retainer.

sadly this is RTD a lot. We have already see him hit the UNDO button in a lot of his stories though I will say like season2 we got separated from Rose trapping her in the parallel dimension. In this the only person who died in this 2 parts seems to be Harriet Arbinger seemingly got disintegrated by the tardis beam. I get RTD trying to deliver this message that even someone extremely ordinary can be important because our perception can make them important. but you had all this crazy stuff go on like the snow and music. if they are least tried to explain that as being linked to this memory tardis being present at her abandonment.... her mom pointing at the street sign... yea thats 100% bs. even if like some people have tried to explain theres CCTV everywhere so she was doing that for the cameras... yea no.... that was a dramatic as hell turn and a very hate filled pointing and she could have left a damn note. But yea they pulled a lot of Disney starwars here. Who are Reys parents? meh nobody. her parents were commoners. There is even a line from the Maestro "What are you!??!" like shes even acknowledging somethings unique and crazy about ruby. It is very similar to a line from a previous episode. sadly a lot of the hate toward this season is 100% due to the doctor being black. the hate channels try to play it off like its not about race and they arent racist but then the way they pick apart ever element of the show just shows they are talking out their rear. sadly i think a lot of the hate while partial being due to the doctor being black now is left over from Jodis era. There was a lot wrong with those seasons. The press being one of them. I am curious to see your thoughts on all of it because to me those seasons were just full of half baked story ideas and bad character development. half the time i was like ok we have half a good story here with half filler. Or talking about saving the environment but we HAVE to have aliens in here somehow because its doctor who we cant just have an episode purely about how humans are messing up the planet.

its crazy how we had so many haters even on one of your past live streams someone saying ncuti has no range. well that was clearly someone who made up their mind not to watch before the season even began and is just repeating something they hear on a hate video lol. think ncuti has shown more range than most of the doctors. now if he made that claim about jodi i might have partially agreed. jodi seemed a bit out of her depth to me. she grew into the role over time i think with more time she could have gone up in my ranking but early on scifi and mystery stuff seemed like something she wasnt used to doing. to me most other doctors feel like they embody the energy of the doctor within the first 2 episodes. with jodi i dunno if it was writing or directing but she was closed off. i watched another reactor watch the spider-mans recently and i think he said it pretty good at least in terms of the movies. toby was a great peter parker, andrew was a great spider-man, tom is the best of both. personally toby didnt have the comedy element i like when spider-man is kinda spitting wise cracks while fighting villains. andrew brought that back. miles is great too though my biggest complain about miles is the spider climbing powers are already questionable enough. sticky hairs on the fingers and such? hows that get through the suit? so you assume hes got it on his feet too... miles wearing nikes but also not tying his laces? bro you gonna trip..... not that with his acrobatics tripping on his shoe laces would mean anything lol.but hows the sticky stuff getting through the suit and then the shoe soles as well? about if the show would get canceled... i hope not. its hard to tell what ratings mean these days. the final episode of classic who had 5 million viewers. now back then the tracking as different. but that was in 1989 though a big part of it getting fired was a new studio head started and he was one of the haters... "doctor who sucks, star trek is better and looks better" and just sabotaged the show basically. 2005 doctor who as a whole averaged about 7.5 million viewers per episode. Jodies era started about 8 million per episode but her 2nd season dropped to about 5.5 million a season 2023 doctor who seems to be averaging about 3.5 million but if we consider how tv viewing habits have changed in the past 20 years.... its kinda hard to say what numbers are even bad. Lets look at world of warcraft for example. at their height of world of warcrafts popularity they had like 15 million active players. in 2015 world of warcraft had dropped to 5.5 million players at which point they stopped publicly displaying that info because it made them look bad and being a publicly traded company telling the stock holders they lost 66% of their player base obviously looks bad.... however they started putting more effort into the cash shop to sell cosmetic items and stuff. so their revenue stream wasnt as bad as the loss in subcribers made it look. so everyone was talking gloom and doom, dead game there must only be like 1 million people playing now etc etc... but the cash shop is kind of out of control at this point. and one of the employees at Blizzard put out a graph with no numbers on it but showing where they were at the 5.5 million spot in 2015 and the internet being full of us nerds people did a pixel to pixel analysis of that graph and drew the conclusion that this "dead game" had about 7.5 million subscribers or something like that. and an employee at blizzard pretty much gave a vague response like "yea thats about where we are at" which means wow this game everyone thought was dead is still the most popular and biggest money making MMO on the market even after nearly 20 years and all the ups and downs the company has had. so yea who knows what the numbers mean now. doctor whos viewer ship might be less but the property is more than just the show. and if we also consider todays generation doesnt move out on their own as much as last generation. so what if the view count is less because the economy is so bad combine with younger people not wanting to work maybe they just gather round the couch like in the 80s and 90s and actually watch tv together with family or friends? damn this is too long and no ones gonna read this lol. sorry but hey youtube likes engagement so

I really enjoy watching you guys but its kinda disappointed with you both implying that just because someone doesnt like doctors 13-15 it means they're racist.. I mean, Doctor 14 is one of the most beloved actors to play the role & some fans wish he didnt come back at all BECAUSE of the writing. The show has always had liberal roots. We Who fans have had decades of change and adapting in a cycle and have learned to embrace it.. when the stories are told well. You havent gotten to the Moffat Era yet, so once you're there youll maybe understand thr complaints; imo the drop off was drastic. Maybe thats a personal bias of my own, because Sherlock was one of my favorite series of all time, idk. Ive loved Ncuti and Jodie in everything they've been in, its really not the actors they pick for the doctor. Its the showrunners choices. But just an example for the problems i have with writing for this season was something Syntel mentioned; Rubys heritage has been pushed to the forefront of every episode and we were constantly told how impossible she was and her mother was this unknown entity (the maestro called Ruby an " impossible creature", the ambulance in Boom even said she was over 1,000 years old!). Being deliberately lied to about how important she is made the reveal felt bad and was not rewarding AT ALL. Which sucked because the incredibly moving scene when they reunited wouldve felt even better if we weren't completely misled down this path the entire series. Also the universe dusting 5 minutes into the finale immediately removed the stakes for me because obviously they wont kill everyone so it took me out. The acting this season is incredible, Millie and Ncuti were incredible, one of the best new who teamups. I completely agree the issue is not Ncuti at all. If i cant choose 7 then its a 8 for me too. Music, acting, set pieces, SOME of the writing was really great. The poor finale really hurts the season as a whole imo.

Feels like they changed the story last minute before filming. Like why was the mysterious woman walking like an 80 year old? Why pointing at a signpost? Why was there snow following Ruby? I think RTD should prioritize story over messaging at some point.
