I would wake up to horrible acne, ones I’ve never had before and it was devastating. After a while it keeps getting worse, I stopped using it and put on a clay mask with probiotics. The bumps disappeared literally in the next day. After 2 days they’re all gone just some light pigments. I’m using tea tree oil product that contains salycilic acid and my face is doing fine now. when I applied this over my breakouts I did get the stinging, but I thought that was most likely cause they were open cuts and spots. I've been using it for a few months, not as consistently as I should, but it doesn't hurt and I don't notice any irritation. it feels smooth and doesn't give me any immediate redness. for reference I have paler mixed race skin of black descent, I know different ingredients are different of skin of colour!

I think this product is a hit or miss. A lot of people use this as their holy grail product, but for someone like me who has combination-sensitive skin type, it broke me out. Maybe because the Niacinamide amount is too strong for me, because when I switched to a cream with Niacinamide, it worked so much better, and did lighten my acne marks.

If you can tell me maybe of the benefits of using this cream under eye. It claims to reduce dark circles which is why I bought it. Would love your input. Thank you.

I wouldn't warn people to avoid this altogether. Skincare is either you are suitable with it or you're not (although there are some straight up dangerous skincare that is not approved by FDA or smth). Most people I know get along well with this TO Niacinamide, I know few people did break out using this. I also personally used this for 1 bottle. I personally feel it just improves my overall skin, like it looks healthier and when I do get acne every month before my period, it makes my acne less severe. I never feel any irritation, tingling, or everything else you mentioned, it could be because I used only 1 bottle. I don't know. My point is, I just don't think this is a product that is so dangerous that must be warned to the public to avoid altogether. I still would recommend this to everyone and if it makes your skin irritated or breaks you out, stop the usage. Just make sure that you are buying the original The Ordinary products because there are soo many fake TO products, especially here in Malaysia.

KZread seems to know what i have been using. I can honestly relate with the irritation and redness. It also happened to me at first. I then realized my toner already has niacinamide so i try to cut the usage to twice a month. and now my skin rarely gets acne. however, i use this niacinamide with aloe vera gel afterwards as my moisturizer. i heard you cannot really use aloe vera gel to moisturize. but it’s hard to find a nice one for my dry skin. i also don’t like moisturizers with thick consistency. Any recommendations?

This product really helps with oily skin. After using it, my skin has stopped being so oily! But... I don’t know if it’s the niacinamide or because my pores are clogged because of sweat from wearing mask, but I started using masks at the same time I used niacinamide and I started getting infected acne (where the middle part of acne turned green 😩)- and the acne has actually left really bad acne scarring (reddish) when before my acne was still popping up, but not to the point of infection 😭

Great info! I might be one who can handle larger doses of it. I suffer from adult acne and have tried everything. The ordinary niacinamide is the only thing that has cleared it up. I don't use any other products with it except a basic hydrating cream. I've read there are a lot of products that don't do well with niacinamide and can cause breakouts and irritation. Keeping it simple has worked for me.
