I didn't know that he wanted to end his career as a Met and they said no, Sad. I was at the game he pitched as a Yankess vs the Mets and it was super weird to see him on the mound at Shea in a Yankee uniform.

Dwight: You will always be loved by Met Fans and Baseball fans. To deal with all the Fame and Media attention, in the 1980's, starting at the age of 19 years old, in NEW YORK CITY, a Picture of Yourself on the side of a skyscraper!!----NO ONE and I mean NO ONE, could properly deal with that, in that moment in history!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The 1980's was the "Cocaine era". The Movies "Blow" and "American Made" document that time period. I myself was affected by this in the 1980's. I have some much fellow feeling and empathy for what was whipped upon you at that early teenage part of your life. You had astronomical talent and you displayed it to us all!!!!!!!! NO ONE deserves all that chaotic circus attention whipped upon them, in a drug crazed era of American society, and all the expectations of perfection that goes with that territory. You survived all that!!!!!!!!!! It would have swallowed and killed many many others. You are helping others, especially the young. I focus on the amazing WOW of your fastball and "Lord Charles" curve( to quote Tim McCarver)! I apologize to you, the man, and the young boy you were at that time. like I said, and I will say it till I die, NO ONE, could have dealt with all that attention, at that Young an age, in the drug crazed 1980's, with their picture of THEMSELVES plastered on the side of a skyscraper, at age 19!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so happy for you that you are still here, and Alive, and thriving!!!!!!!!!!!!! May Almighty God Bless you, and Continue to Bless you, the remaining years of your life. Thank you for your awesome memories On the field. There are bigger lessons that you are still teaching to ALL people, young and old, right here, right now, in 2023!!! The New York Mets, and their Fans, are your Family Forever!!! This is REAL and heartfelt. I might never ever meet you, but this message is my personal "handshake" to you!

We don't need some old coke addicts's number up in the stadium. The Mets don't have anymore former players left who are worthy of having thier number retired. So they decided to scrape the bottom of the barrel to decorate the stadium.
