Bought a 2023 Toyota 4Runner it’s got 759 miles on it.. thinking about changing it around 1500 to 2000 miles. I’m also an old school about taking care of stuff. Things cost so much…. Thanks for sharing your story. God bless everyone.

Every brand new motorcycle, every brand new car, every brand new vehicle I've ever owned I've done the same thing - Run it to about 500 miles and swap the oil and filter. There is too much debris, too much crap in that engine from assembly, plus break in, to leave it in there for a year. Run the engine for a 3-4 tanks of gas, swap the oil, sleep at night

He literally only showed one microscopic piece of metal stuck where it's supposed to be. If he found it in the oil maybe you would have a point ,but even then one microscopic piece of metal will barely do anything to a brand new engine

@@jss.2020Exactly. Changing break in oil at 500 miles is not only a waste of money but imo can be bad if actual break in oil was used and removed prematurely. Break in oil seasons the internals with zinc and other additives.

I’ve always done my first oil change at 1000 miles. Since I do it outside in the sun and pour out of a black plastic pan, I can see the tiny particles in the oil without a microscope. It looks like fine Glitter. I’ve owned 4 Brand new Toyotas and all 4 with same results. So like this video says, Oil and a filter is fairly cheap compared to having any major engine problem.

I agree with the idea of sending off used oil samples for analysis. Last I recall, around 40 micron is the small the human eye can see, but a lot of the particulates that cause damage are 20 micron and smaller. I learned this method of breaking an engine in from a guy that worked at Toyota on their race engines from the mid 90s until at least 2006 (when I met him). Perform your 1st oil change at 500 miles (total). Perform your 2nd oil at 1500 miles (total). Perform your 3rd oil change at 3000 miles (total). From mile 0-500 follow this rules: Do not exceed 4000rpm, never romp on the throttle, do not use cruise control, change gears every 2-3 minutes, no excessive idling, downshifting & engine braking are allowed - if you have forced induction, do not use boost at all. From mile 501-1500 follow this rules: New oil and filter. Do not exceed 4500rpm, never romp on the throttle, do not use cruise control, change gears every 2-3 minutes, no excessive idling, downshifting & engine braking are allowed - if you have forced induction, max boost 3psi. From mile 1501-3000 follow this rules: New oil and filter. Do not exceed 5000rpm, never romp on the throttle, do not use cruise control, change gears every 2-3 minutes, no excessive idling, downshifting & engine braking are allowed - if you have forced induction, max boost 6psi. From mile 3000 and on: New oil and filter. Drive it like you intend to drive it. I took it 1 step further and used Break In (specific) oil and the best oil filter based upon the smallest micron captured at the highest efficiency (note: OEM filters are almost never the best). I also ran the initial oil and filter for 10 minutes (long enough to make sure there were not leaks and the engine idled correctly), then changed the oil and filter. That means by mile 3000, I had done 4 oil changes.dd I followed this method on my former 2006 Subaru WRX (they're notorious for burning oil), and even with 96,000 miles on it, it does not burn any oil. I also followed this method on my former 1986 Toyota Mr2 and it never burned any oil after 30,000 miles - and I frequently brought that engine to redline (7200rpm), and it consumed no oil.

Looking at the oil with a microscope is better than nothing, but oil analysis has repeatedly shown that there's more metal in the first oil change even with modern engines. How much damage these tiny particles will cause is somewhat unknown.

Just did my 23 Toyota 4 runner. First change 750km, lots of metal more than any of my previous vehicles. Second change 1350km and 90% less metal but still a little. Hopefully the next change at the 5000km interval will have none. First if not second early change is paramount if you keep your vehicles 20 plus years or so like I do.

Did the same thing. I'm surprised at the metallic sheen in the oil when you get the light just right. Helps ro swirl it a bit with your finger to see it.

I did my first oil change on my 2023 Nissan pro 4X at 1000 miles. I added a magnetic drain plug to the oil pan. At the 4000 mile mark I checked the magnetic drain plug and while they were no metallic bits on it I was able to wipe off a small amount of what look like a metallic slurry. Maybe it is something that the paper oil filter cannot catch.

I changed mine out at 500 and again at 1000 miles. Now Ill switch to every 5,000 miles. I wish you had sent a sample off to Blsckstone or a similar oil analysis place.

Great myth confirmation! Before watching I had taken my new ES350 to the dealership for its 1000km check, I got them to change the oil and filter. I got the feeling that the service advisor thought I was a little crazy but I explained that I was old (hence the Lexus sedan) and that he should just humour me. I’ll also be changing the oil and filter every 5000km, just standard OEM, no need for ultra expensive synthetic oil with regular changes.

I have gotten that “look” from service advisors too when doing an early 1st oil change. I’ll remember your response and use it next time. I use synthetic in my Dodge Hellcat as It shipped factory with synthetic but I run regular or simi synthetic in most everything else …

However, during Covid lockdown, and don’t tell the cops, we had an impromptu race, him in the Hellcat and me in an Avis Camry. A win for the Camry… just. Nothing faster than a rental Camry, especially when large speed bumps are involved 😂

Thanks for confirming and reassuring I need to change my 2023 Lexus GX 460 Luxury motor oil. The truck just passed 500 miles. I will not wait for the 5k miles Lexus complimentary maintenance schedule. Plus I never change my car oil that long. I always follow the 6-months oil change regardless of mileage. I don’t put more than 3k miles between oil changes. Oil is cheap engine is not!

Fantastic Video! Many years ago I changed my then girl friends break-in oil in her new 1988 Suzuki Samurai was at either 300 or 500 miles as I remember. I happened to have a new yellow oil change pan and I drained that oil outside midday in direct sunlight. At only 500 miles the oil was almost clear but the metal flakes in that oil glistened like fool's gold in a mountain creek! Seeing that sparkle some 35 years ago has always stayed with me and influenced my early first oil changes. Things such as lawn mowers / small air cooled engines I will always do an early oil change. However for the first time in 35 years I decided to hold off till 4, 000 miles on my new Ram Cummins truck as my thought was the cost of that oil and the fact its a diesel but that at 4,000 miles, that was early as normal is 10K to 15K oil changes so my question is just how early is best? I'm picking up my new Harley in a few days and Harley suggest the 1st fluid change at 1,000 miles ( I think after break-in Harley suggest oil changes at 5K miles. or once a year but I'm wondering based on my 35 years of early oil changes should I change that oil out at 300 or 500 or even 50-100 miles or just go the 1,000?

So weird this video popped up in my feed. I have a 2023 Tacoma TRD Off Road 4x4 & bought it about 2-3 months ago & im getting ready to come up on 1000 miles, & because of that I went by the Toyota dealership the other day & got a new filter & oil to do my oil change. I also purchased the OEM Toyota metal housing that I’m going to swap the plastic one with. Glad to see I’m doing the right thing. Even though I have a 10yr-100k mile extended warranty, & lifetime engine & tranny(plus the rest of the drivetrain) I don’t want to have to deal with all that. Much prefer to just take care & maintain what’s in there now. Nice to know I’m not doing it for nothing

But the factory put 0W8 oil in my Corolla- the engine was loud, I knew this and I got that thin oil out of there. Huge improvement with 0W20 oil.

Hey, what oil did you put in that car? 0W-8 or 0W-16. I can't find 0W-8 but heard the same exact configuration took 0W-16, then Toyota changed it without any bulletin reports or a change to any part #'s. The dealer told me this.

I’m taking wife’s new Silverado I’m currently have 1,200 probably have like 1500 by time it goes in .. first change is free so why not .. I will also be marking the oil filter just in case they say they did it

Absolutely between 500 and 1000 miles ,drain that oil in a clean pan and stir it wit a screwdriver and look at the fine metal ice swirl.

Can you do a video on break in transmission fluid? Especially with modern CVT transmissions?

I just changed the engine oil on my 2023 with 1600 miles on it.

i recently purchased a 2023 Winnebago Travato with the Ram Promaster chassis. It already had 2000 miles on it as they are driven from the factory to my dealership in California. I now wonder if that was good for the engine. I immediately changed the oil and filter around 3000 miles with a good synthetic. I plan to keep it for a long time so maintenance with be done regularly (every 5-7 K instead of 10 K as the manufacturer recommended).

I change my oil at 2k miles , seven there after. Using Monil1 EP oil and filter

The break in oil is just for that purpose for break in. When you remove and replace it you no longer have that break in oil and if your engine isn't done with the process your not doing yourself any favors.

stoneyswolf.....The service manager at my local Toyota dealer answered this exact question for me. Toyota doesn't have any models that ship with "break in oil" The part #'s that come up in their system are the same as the Toyota branded OEM oil you simply buy anywhere. It's just synthetic motor oil.

@@williebrown1974 The term "Break-In-Oil" just means the First Oil in the engine when it is delivered from the factory. It is the same as the oil you should use when changing the oil each time. It just happens to be the oil that is in the engine during the miles considered to be the break-in period.

The big question, do manufacturers actually use a special blend of oil for breakin that should not be taken out until the engine surfaces mate perfectly??? The filter gets the oil first before being pumped through the engine and the filter catches any particles and holds them until replaced. Anything small enough to get through the filter should not damage any component I’ve been told.

I wonder if these TT V6 toyotas are getting these bearing issues due to the dramatic first oil change recommendations for the first change.. Visible metal in the filter at 800 miles - now compound that 10X to 8000 when a lot of people are getting their oil changed for the first time.

Bought a brand new 370Z years ago and changed the oil myself at 300 miles. (first service said bring it in at 1000 ) The oil looked like glitter.

I did one at 1000. I did not look for small metal particles but did see some metal shavings

Bought a 23 F-150 hybrid. I'm almost at 5,000 miles. The dealership says bring it in at 7,500 miles. I always intended to bring it in at 5k.

Fragments in the filter is exactly what the filter is supposed to do. What is interesting is how some people live or die on their preconceptions, even when the evidence proves otherwise... Oil and filter technology has advanced well past what they used to be. There are even highway diesel engines that run for 10's of thousands of miles without oil changes, because their filter technology enables the filters to remove most of the contaminants, and their oils are designed to last beyond those extended change intervals. (It's a myth oil breaks down. It's more accurate to state the additive package is what breaks down over time.) A real issue is how you drive your vehicle. If it's short runs where the engine barely warms up to burn off accumulated moisture and fuel contaminants, or you do a lot of idling, it's considered 'Severe Service' and your oil change intervals should be shorter than what's listed in your manual. Also, the absolutely worse thing that you can do to your engine is have it sit idling in your driveway to warm it up. Dealers make a killing selling remote starters, then the service department gets to work on your worn out engine, because cold idling allows moisture and unburned fuel that condenses on your cold cylinder walls to accumulate and dilute the oil's lubricating efficiency, causing premature wear. Most engine wear occurs at start-up and the fastest and least damaging way to warm your engine is to drive it at moderate loads, as burning fuel is what heats it. Idling uses little fuel.

@@tssci6774 My point was anyone who changes their oil thousands of miles before the Mfr's recommended intervals is needlessly pissing their money away. Most oils will last far longer than that, and if you have a decent oil filter particle contamination won't be an issue either.

Hello sir, I am not a car person and i bought a brand new lexus in july. I watched your video yesterday about significance of first oil change. Unfortunately by that time my new car was already driven 2500 miles. I woke up this morning and got my oil change done at dealership first thing. My question to you is how much damage have I done already to my new engine since I missed the 500 miles mark by quite a bit. Im kind of freakin out now. please help :(

You've done nothing trust me. Even more you had done better than average new car owner so really don't be that scared. Also as you've seen in the video the filter has done lot of work catching particulate matter. Keep it up with regular (more often than the book won't harm especially if you're short tripping, towing, idling...) oil change that's gonna preserve the engine in the long run. Edit : stay with OEM oil and filter it's your best warranty to have the highest compatibility and quality of product without testing. Of course until proven otherwise on your engine specifically.

If these little metals are bad after 2K, they are sure bad after 5 or 10 miles. What you are saying is that we must change all oils and filters after buying a new car. Then, the manufacture, or even more realistically, the car dealer should do that.

And it is not only of : "How much you care about your car." Unfortunately (when I personal want the best for the engine) it depends also if you just own your brand new car ~3 years and then buy a new one again. Then you will not experience anything bad mechanically or performance wise by doing the car manufacturers recommended (minimum) service intervals. But if you want to drive your car until the wheels fall off then it is another story. Then do more than the minimum suggested service intervals..

Coming up on 1000 miles and plan on doing the first oil change on my Explorer ST. Whats crazy is manufacturer recommends at 10k? Heck no! I do 3000-5000 mile intervals regardless of how its driven during that time frame.

This has been asked more times than any other. You have a brand new car and engine . All the parts are new and have not seated with each other . Therefore you will have microscopic shavings and debris in your OIL. I always change my oil at the 500 mile mark on a new engine.

I bought a car at 8k km mileage, now it is 10k km mileage, i asked the oil expert if I need to change, by manual check with dipstick it says its color is good, not sticky, not thick. But this is a new engine it will always show this condition of oil, so just change engine oil after every 5k km , is this statement correct? My car is 660cc

I didn't know so i changed my Toyota Corolla Hybrid oil at 1 year and 15.000 km as the manufacturer recommended. I hope not to harm the engine.

So the metal particle in the oil filter is yes a concern but surely be caught by the oil filter. When you moved your pick across the magnet there were particles of black that you pick made lines in. If you would have done an oil analysis you would have seen the copper, aluminum and iron be roughly 200-400 parts per million. This is the real problem. By the third oil change the 3 numbers for a regular length interval would be 0-8 ppm and stay in that range from then on. With Toyota recommending 10k oil changes that would stay in the oil for a long time. This is not going to be something that affects the engine in say the first 100k but will affect the long term wear of an engine. It might be the difference in it burning a quart between oil changes a 125k vs 250k.

I don't think it's as bad as double for the oil burning. If you flush at 10k then oil change every time at this milage think it will burn 1 quart in 10k at about 280k in the case of the late flushed engine and 310k or so at the earlier one. But surely no more than 50k difference. Based on multiple engine wear, maintenance and consumption observations even tho I think you'd said those numbers as example.

that metal is from the deficient cleaning after machining the engine parts in the factory.

Man making me nervous. Got 5000 miles on my tacoma. Changing the oil tomorrow.

Called the dealership to make an appointment to have the oil changed at 1,000 miles. Had to wait 8-9 days for an appointment to open up. Oil got changed today at 1,501 miles. Glad I watched a video recommending to change the oil in my 2023 Toyota Corolla at 1,000 miles.

I just bought a 2023 corolla. Does yours take 0W-8 oil? Mine does and I can't find it anywhere. I read that early 2023 models had 0W-16 listed and then they changed it mid-year to 0W-8 with no reason stated. No changes to the engine or duel VVT-I. I want to change the run in oil myself and skip going to the dealer all together but now I'm confused.

Not a scientific approach. Following the manufacturer recommendation, you would be fine. However, if you change oil earlier, it will not hurt anything, but the benefit is miniscule. The point is , does the filter holds well in the full cycle, the metal particle, getting through the filter, do they really hurt engine, to what extent. The answer is, the filter will holds up well, the very small metal particles going through the filter will not hurt engine, looking at the spec for the filter.

You choose the wrong car for the test 😉 It depends on the make of the car and toyota seems to have way less of the filings than other brands, I've seen ford engine where oil turned silver after couple of hundred kilometres.

Most excellent test here. Nice one. So yes it is! Change oil and filter at 1000 or less, then again after another 4000 and then every 5000 and you can easily keep track of oil change intervals at every 5000. 10,000, 15,000, 20,000 and so on. Never change oil at every 10,000! You will torpedo the life of your engine significantly.

I was changing my oil and drained out the oil into my oil catch pan and thought I had a new oil filter, but I don't so I have to wait for an oil filter to come in about 3 days. So is it okay to let my vehicle sit up without putting oil in while I wait for the new filter? Or should I put the fresh oil in and then drain it back out when the new filter comes? By the way, I haven't taken the old oil filter off yet since I didn't want to have that area with nothing on it.

I just changed the oil in my new Nissan at about 750 miles. I didn’t check the oil for bits but I know it’s a good idea to do it. And dealer recommends 10k for first oil change! WTF? Hell no

When is an engine “ broken in”? If you look at metal in the oil you will find out that they slowly go down to a baseline at about 50-60k. So I think an engine , for most users, is not broken in till 50k + miles

I'm confused by your conclusion. Yes, a new engine produces metal. That metal was found in the filter, not in the oil. Isn't that the way it's supposed to work? Why change oil that doesn't have metal in it?

i got a question, so i just finished assembly the new piston and new cylinder block on my bike i still dont know do i need to change my oil after 100 miles or 1000 miles? im using mineral oil for break in engine

So when you do your second and third oil change you will find nothing in the oil because all metal particles must come loose and enter the filter in the first 1000 miles? I think the filter was doing it's job and may have continued to work up to 5000 miles. On the other hand if all metal particles from a new engine begin floating around in the oil not long after the engine is first started and the oil circulates around and washes the particles away from what ever surface they were on and into the oil where they are doing significant damage like you said at about 3:52 in the video, (stuff like that could easily ruin your engine if you don't get it out of there quickly), it would seem to me that waiting until 500 or a 1000 miles is too long. My real guess is that the metal does get caught in the oil filter quickly and there is nothing to worry about. If that is not the case then you need to repeat your process every 1000 miles until you no longer find metal in the filter, or maybe not.

I agree the metal fragments could do harm, but since they are caught in the oil filter you are good.

So how does metal trapped in the filter damage the engine?

It can't. The problem is the finer particulate matter that goes right through the filter media. Most filters only filter well down to about 25 microns, and only modestly well down to 15 microns. 25.4 microns equals 1/1000 of an inch...A standard filter just simply isn't that great. To change early, while the piston rings are scraping the crosshatch on the cylinder walls is a good idea!

​@@vincentrobinette1507 who says the oem filter is sub standard? Even if it was anything smaller that gets through isn't going to cause long term damage. Someone may change the filter early with a substandard filter and now you've defeated the purpose of changing the oil early in the first place

I spoke to 3 different service managers at 3 different Acura dealerships and they all told me NOT to change the new vehicle oil until the cars Maintenace minder was at 15%. I was more then willing to pay out of pocket for the service but they all recommended NOT to do it.

The Mercedes dealer told me the same thing. I followed their advice. 3 years later I had a $6500 problem. The same dealer said it was because of lack of oil changes, which they had done according to factory specs.

No, no harm done. If you service it regulary it will last many decades and hundreds of thousands of miles. I do mine every 10k.

That is the purpose of the oil filter. It filters the oil, but it is not 100 percent.

I wonder how much microscopic metal flakes would show if changing the oil every 3000 miles after doing a first 1000 mile change (??)

how much metal is too much and when would it be of concern for a new car/engine?

Modern cars don't use break-in oil when it is new from the factory. I bought '23 GX460 last March. It is underpowered. Gas mileage is terrible. Engine noise is loid and coarse over 3,000rpm. I changed the oil and filter at 950 miles. The engine ran smoother and quieter. At 3,600 miles, i changed the oil and filter again. Engine noise is even lower and it is more responsive. I got 23 mpg on a huge V8 engine on my last road trip to New Mexico(avg 70mph). City mixed driving mpg is around 18 If you plan to keep your vehicle over 250k miles and ensure you got the full ounce of power from the engine, do change your oil in the first 1000miles and 3,000 miles. Soon after that, you can follow the 5,000 miles or 6 month interval(whichever comes first). You need to follow this literally especially you live in dusty and extreme climate region(either too hot or too cold). I love my GX.

You are totally incorrect! The sounds and engine behavior is a direct consequence of the manufacturer first fill. Do NOT change this high moly oil over to regular full synthetic.

i debate in my mind whether we are wasting money on myths. just like fuddy duddys telling me all Turbo engines require premium gas which is not true. it seems based on your experiment and the manual to just change at regular intervals and just get a really good filter

Turbos dont require premium Gas/petrol.. but the standard petrol has 10% ethanol, if you go for premium octane95, it does improve the burning capacity and turbo performs better...

@@pradeepb1277 Says who? This is another unsupported myth. Every analysis I've seen demonstrates that if your engine does not require premium fuel, it is a total waste of money to use it.

It's amazing that early oil changes are such a big issue in the USA. I noticed that the manufacturer's specifications don't seem to be given adequate attention. The vehicle manufacturers have certainly thought of something with their specifications regarding oil specifications and change intervals. Engine damage caused by adherence to change intervals specified by the manufacturer is rare. The way I see it is that here in Europe the manufacturer's specifications are largely adhered to and so it's not a big issue. My personal experience with this approach is nothing but positive and is based on my experience over the past 50 years with brands such as VW, Mercedes, Audi and Toyota. I didn't have any engine damage or increased oil consumption. It would be interesting for me to find out why there are such big differences between the USA and Europe on this topic. if you guaged our population as a whole, only a small % do this early oil change. some of us are just obsessed with having the best, cleanest, oil, inside our engines, most Americans, probably not.

I do my 1st at 250 miles & 2nd at 5k.

The prevailing view that this is only applicable to vehicles from the old days doesn't make sense. These are still internal combustion engines made out of metal. They will break in for the first 500-1000 miles and it just makes sense to change the oil/filter by 1000 miles. Fresh oil + filter is cheap, easy and salubrious for your engine.

Oil analysis techniques > simple microscope. All day, every day.

Dealers in my country does 1,000km PMS then 2,500km PMS + oil change. They'll only charge for the oil. Except for Ford. I winder if it's related to the number of engine overheating issues that comes later down the road. I saw another mechanic tearing down an ecoboost engine, and seeing how they (Ford) run the oil around the piston to cool it, a few specs of metal clumping together is enough to block the flow and cause the overheating issue in the engine he was fixing.

I put zddp and lucas zddp in my break in oil. I dumped it and it was shiney af. So thats normal?

Sorry but only ZDDP (considering this product don't only contain that) surely isn't apparent in oil. If it's wear metal it could be cause by worst case break down of the base oil caused by the base of the " ZDDP additive" or additive interaction with the oil leading to surface scavenging of proper amount of components required in the oil film. That's the problem with mixing unknown and in extent untested base or additive together. Should've been use proper break in oil formulated at first like driven oil.

All this video has shown is that the oil filter has done its job. I’m a firm believer of changing oil in new engines are break in period but it’s the metal you can’t see that is the problem.

Looking at the oil with your eye or that microscope is not showing really anything. You should have sent a sample to the lab. I would agree to change the break in oil super early though.

What is the oil filters purpose if it doesnt catch these metallic particles? Seems like a waste of good oil that will typically last 10 to 20 K miles.

Why did the oil draining out of the car look golden, while the oil you caught looks black? Also, if the filter caught the few metal pieces as it should, what is the big rush in getting the filter out? If they are in the filter, how do they ruin the car? I just did not think your conclusion followed from the premises of your argument. Sorry. Also, as someone else suggested, why isn't everyone worried about the metal bits in the transmission fluid, especially on CVT's? Why wait till 20,000 miles or two years to change the transmission fluid and filter while at the same time feeling it imperative to change your oil almost immediately after you get the car?

To each his own. Its your engine. Even the best oil is pretty cheap people ! I trust the oil labs who repeatedly say break-in contaminants are a fact. Ive changed everything ive ever had at around 1000 miles, for almost 50 years !

Mazda Skyactiv engines are not allowed to have their first factory fill high moly break in oil changed until 15,000Km's or your warranty will be voided. The first fill is NOTHING like regular oil and performs a very precise operation in conjunction with the oil filter. The owners manuals all state this VERY clearly. Toyota are the same.@@2carpros

My Hyundai has been telling me to do an oil change since 2200 miles. This video provides evidence that I need only change the filter, top up the oil level, reset the maintenance indicator and save the rest of the five quart jug for the next change interval. Metal in the filter is going to stay there.

When I bought my Lexus NX 300 brand new in 2021 I took in to Lexus for its first oil change at 1000 miles I was told there was no need. I did my first oil change at around 3200 miles. Could I have potentially harmed the engine by waiting past the 100k?

its a new engine and there is a break in period, very pronounced in 2 stroke engines especially. Any imperfections grind down and seat releasing particles into the oil

Porsche uses Mobil 1 0W-40 FF for their new engines. FF stands for Factory Fill and it’s chemistry is totally different from what you can find in regular Mobil 1 0W-40.

I done oil and filter change o. my new Aluminator 5.0 L @ 1k plus FHP differential and Calimer mt-82d stage 2. change the engine oil every 5k and transmission and differential every 10k. watch the trilogy expert on utube the motor oil geek. Amsoil full synthetic. 2019 GT mustang 😊

Given the manufacturing tolerances these days, I wonder how much of the metal particles were left over from machining rather than breaking in… Surely, the conclusions don’t follow from the findings - filter does its job, oil stays clean, no need to change it until next routine service…

SO if there is metal in the filter and not in the oil, that means the filter is working and don't really need to change the oil. Every other video I've seen I see like silicone and other normal debris that don't really harm the engine. I just think the 1000mi oil change is blown out of proportion and maybe true 30-40 years ago but not now.
