Do You Need an Excursion in the Port of Zeebrugge, Belgium?

The port of Zeebrugge is the gateway to the cities of Bruges and Ghent in Belgium. Both are worth visiting, but it may be easiest to take a ship excursion to get into the city and to ensure you get a Canal Boat tour, since ship tours get priority and you can skip the queue. Hints about the finest chocolates, other souvenirs like linens, lace, tapestries, genevre and good beers are included.
We were on the ‪@HollandAmericaLine‬ Rotterdam during our TransAtlantic crossing when we stopped in Zeebrugge.

We were in Zeebrugge again just a couple months ago and we went to Ghent this time. We really do feel like this is one of those ports that it's easiest to do a cruise line excursion if you want to go to either Brugge or Ghent.

We're heading back there this fall. We absolutely love Brugge, but I think this time, we're going to head to Ghent and then we can do a comparison video between these two beautiful cities!

I'm looking forward to seeing Zeebrugge this October, if all goes as planned. I'm also visiting the Netherlands, specifically Amsterdam and France. Zeebrugge is beautiful, from what I've seen.

The port has lovely beaches, but not much retail/restaurants. The city of Brugge is really special. We will be heading back this fall too! We are going to go to Ghent this time so that we can really make a comparison between Brugge and Ghent. In Amsterdam, if you have time, make a reservation (at least a few months in advance!) at Den Silveren Spiegel. It is one of my favorite restaurants - in the world. It combines history, culinary perfection, and family style hospitality. We did a quick overview of Amsterdam if this is at all helpful to your planning. kzread.info/dash/bejne/pJOHzJOnpqiWlda7.htmle also did a video on Cherbourg. kzread.info/dash/bejne/d6yqzaNxic-3d8Y.html

I'm so glad this was helpful. It isn't a huge city, but it will feel bigger if you're having to lug suitcases around it. We're heading back this fall. This really is one of those cities you'll be SO GLAD you're going to get to spend some time in. You'll love it at night - I hope you're there with someone you love or are ready to go and fall in love. It really is romantic.

@@susandiekmann We did go to Ghent (and loved it!). We've got a whole series on the UK we're going to do before we make our Ghent video, but we would give the same general advice as we did for Brugge. It is probably easiest to book a ship excursion for either city. Ghent also offers boat tours which are a great way to see the city and get all the insider information at the same time.

We certainly didn’t mean to be deceptive. Zeebrugge does have a beach, but not as much retail and restaurant activity. People from surrounding cities will go there for the beach. Many cruise lines advertise Zeebrugge as the port for Bruges and we wanted to help travellers understand that it might, in fact, be easier to take a ship’s shore excursion rather than trying to manage transportation on your own. We don’t generally do the ship excursions, but we found that in this port it was easier, much more time efficient and not a lot more expensive. But if you’re staying in port, you’ll still need to arrange to get transportation out of the industrial port and to the beach.

There is a small sector of Belgium that speaks German. The whole country is worth a visit.

Yes! You are so right about that. We haven't been to a city or town in Belgium that we haven't enjoyed. And there really is such diversity in that small country. We love Antwerp, but it has such a different vibe from Bruges. And we thing Bruges feels quite different from Ghent - yet they're so close.
