The new looks yes definitely, but the classic looks just look stupid. They look like link doing a cheap cosplay of himself rather than capturing the drip of Link in older zelda games. They just lack the level of details and bigger than life feel he had in smash 4, it almost feels like they are mocking the appearance of Twilight princess link. Looks 1, 3, 5 and 7 are great but 6 and 8 look worse than on the Wii U and 2 and 4 are actually bad skins. These tunics looked bad in Breath of the Wild and Utimate sure didn't fixed it.

That comment about how the Smash version of Dark Link is completely original just made me realize how much I want to see a Dark Link appear in Tears of the Kingdom lol

Fierce deity always needs to be an Alt for link. One of the coolest transformations for the hero and it also has a really cool lore. Awesome skin

The red tunic reminds me more of the fire resistant clothing Link wears in Ocarina of Time

That was the case in smash 4 but this new one is clearly closer to the hylian set, that's why the red is darker and less saturated. I honestly miss the smash 4 variant, it looked much more distinct.

@@dylanthunderwood99 It's not a question of being correct, it might have mixed inspiration but the green sleeves and darker shade of red hint more thoward the hylian tunic than the goron tunic.

I was so upset when they included everything but my boi from OoT

The one he called twilight princess is OoT, its made obvious by the white sleeves and pants and the open neck of the shirt

I would've loved it if Sakurai did the Hero treatment and represent more Links with alts: Botw, Twilight Princess, Ocarina of Time, and Skyward Sword for adult Link; A Link to the Past (with his pink hair), Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask and the OG Link 1986 for Young Link

I definilty agree that his alt should have much more diverse inspiration, but I don't think every Link should be represented for the sake of it, at least not only by Link. I think the way smash 4 did it was nearly perfect. Link skins reference different tunics from all over the franchise; his base skin is closer to TP/SS link, but it serves more as a general idea of link, his first two alt reference Oot's goron and zora tunic, his purple ult references 4 swords, His white skin SS, and fierce diety is Majora's mask. He references every 3D Zelda games in some ways, with Toon link referencing the 2D and retro games. Both of them therefore cover all of the franchise pretty well (with the exeption of a Link to the past sadly). Just changing the yellow skin with the Champion tunic and updating some of them to be closer to BOTW would have been perfect. Sadly they only reference BOTW, either by picking BOTW skins or by chosing BOTW skins that reference older games. I think the new skin selection is really bad, like there are so many overlaps between all 3 link and despite that they never managed to reference Twilight princess in any way. Plus the colours just don't stand out at all, the are way too similar where as Smash 4 had a wide colour selection as well as referencing every games.

Twillight Princess Link will always be superior

Pretty sure Sora's other costumes are all based on his appearances in the games. His looks from KHI, II, III, and Dream Drop Distance, as well as various form changes and his Timeless River look.

They did all that but didnt give him his standard green costume. That's like not giving Mario his blue overalls and red shirt outfit

That's what the "-of the Wild" set is, (outfit #2).

That Royal Guard's outfit is absolute 🔥. I gotta find it before facing Calamity (again).

The twilight inspired alt is also because twilight princess link has been the link in smash ever since brawl only being replaced by oot link in 64 and melee (since twilight didn’t exist yet) and botw link in ultimate

I think the hylian shield on the skyloft alt also somewhat references the wooden shield from Skyward Sword.

Its not, it's just the same colors as the Skyloft clothes that Link wears

The skyward sword alt is so clever. It's one of the few outfits from a pre-BOTW game which is hatless. Thus working really well with this BOTW link!

I still think it was a huge missed chance to just not straight out give him unique alts of different BotW costumes.

Missed chance? No, this was far better. Making it all BotW is disgusting and redundant. Not everything has to be about BotW (it's unarguably the worse 3D Zelda game as is).

I'm still mad that all of these are reskins of the Champion's outfit instead of the actual outfits

My family was late to the Switch train and we don’t have Smash Ultimate yet, but I got broken with Link in Super Smash on the WiiU so I think I know what I’ll be maining in Ultimate.

They should have made the classic oot outfit a choice

If the fierce Diety link had the exact costume and sword design link would be off the chart

and then there’s sonic where he was just given freaking wrist rings that even shadow wouldn’t dare to wear

I always took the red tunic to be a representation of the armour you had to wear when you entered the fire temple in ocarania of time

In the other smash games yes it was, but since it's botw Link it's exactly what was shown (I preferred the other Links more)

Links Royal Guard set came from the knight status he canonically held before the events of BOTW, but Age of Calamity may or may not have retconned him to just be a regular soldier.

Age of calamity is weird, in the game it seems that the time like diverges due terrako, but that wouldnt explain why link doesnt have the master sword since he is supposed to have it since he was 4 and thats way before the point terrako arrives

I feel like when we killed a gloom hand in totk, we should have gotten Dark Link as a boss instead of Phantom Ganon

Kind of takes me back for a second whenever I see the Fierce Deity design. Clearly Nintendo remembers and loves this design and the game it’s from.

I love how looks the "wild set" in smash bros. I hope he keeps it in the next Smash, the champion tunic being updated and that the Fierce Deity really changes the costume, not just the colors.

I will have a rotation between. BOTW, Fierce Deity, white, and dark Link. Loving the level of detail in these designs!

Wouldn't be cool that in the next smash game you can customize your character's outfit? Link, Inkling, Mario (Mario Oddyssey) and Villager come from games were you can dress them with whatever shirt, pants and shoes you want. It would be cool if in the select a character screen some characters had a lot more clothes

The Dark Link alt is actually an outfit in Breath of the Wild and the shield he uses in the alt is the Royal Guard's Shield

Red tunic doesn't come from BOTW, we can see it on zelda II, ALTP, LA, OOT...

Hylian Tunic and the Royal Guard Uniform is really fit on Link... And the Fierce of Deity has no armor...

As big as breath of the wild was. Im a bit surprised they only gave him recolors and 2 skin textures.

The royal guard outift is an odd choice since it didn't play much if a rile at all in BotW and was a hidden dlc outfit, but it looks so good on Link in smash. No wonder pretty much all Link mains use that one.

I will never not be mad about the royal guard outfit. You go through the most dangerous place in the game, collecting these fucking amazing black variants of Links weaponry, learning that they're brittle, but amazingly powerful, pointing towards a fighting force of god-tier warrirors who end fights in as few strikes as possible. You've found the quest for the royal guard armor, and, eyeing your guard armor, expect it to be something similar. Maybe a black recolor, or, if you're lucky, something more akin to Berserk. A light mail outfit with a single bracer for blocking. Hell, they might even do something like Dark Link, seeing as it's all a reference to old Link gear. Only to find the band geeks uniform.
