Do THIS after you learn a new blues riff...

A blues guitar lesson on what to do with the riffs and scales that you learn.
We use a "call and response" technique that I call riffs- rhythm - riffs.
This is a concept that I will discuss further in my upcoming Blues for Fingerpickers course.

Q: If I'm doing riffs like this in a 12 bar blues, say in E, do I do all the riffs in Em over every chord, or do I riff in Bm on the 5 chord. Thanks for the lesson! I like these short, digestible bites. Keeps me on track.

Good question. There are many approaches that you can take. You could play Em pentatonic or Blues over the whole progression or you could try to play the changes a bit more by highlighting the chord tones over each chord. Either way is okay but they will sound different. So try out doing both.

Great new lesson. Just got back from a little vacation and it’s perfect to get those fingers moving again after 5 days. What scale are you tooling with.
