I just watched your video; first off, Thank you for having the courage to try something new (video production). I appreciate hearing real, unbiased personal opinions about a product that you have purchased and are using. I just ordered my LM30 yesterday and am trying to learn as much as I can while awaitng it's arrival. Your video has already shown me that I need to change my initial plans for setting up the mill. I will check to see if you have created any follow up videos (I hope so). This will be my first attempt also at running a mill, it will be solely for personal use.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm probably going to get the LM30 in the next year or so......I used a friend's Norwood 36 for about forty hours and was impressed by it....I made wood ramps for it and mounted a hand winch on a post, worked well, surprisingly easy. But yeah,I'll get ready to have patience with assembly and getting to know the mill. Thanks again.

I have exactly the same mill as you, and I can give you my two cents as to what works for me, loading the logs I do that with my backhoe, and two log tongs hanging from chains on either sides of the bucket. I have used this setup to load 30 inch oak logs that where so heavy, the backhoe didn't even have brakes, I mean the ass end was that light. you can slowly lower the log, and easily get the tongs out, but there is a catch, they have to be antique tongs, which work the best. I bought one new one, and it didn't work worth a toot. next thing I learned with this mill is not to cut the bloody log holders at the back off with your blade when you forget to lower them, done that trick twice, and dulled two blades, and now matched both holders. once you have milled two sides, I'm going to take those out of their holes, and just use the chrome eight inch long angle iron stops instead. that's the chrome angle iron stop used for cants normally, but it will save you log stops. on that scale thing, here's what I do, say I want six quarter boards, I start by cutting my first cut right on the line on the scale, and that's my first slab cut on the log, and do that on two opposite sides, then it's a simple matter to slice up the rest of the log into six quarter boards exactly, no waste. hope this can help even a little bit. but your right, I spent a month putting that mill together, and wondered if I was drinking too many beers.........

excellent video i will say if you watch a Norwood video from their website they show the water just dripping. The concept here is the blade needs very little water to stop pitch or sap build up. Again good video keep up the good work hope you do another after you cut some more wood

Saw mill is not for everyone. It would be cheaper to buy your lumber. I could not do your day job, it is what it is, putting it tougher is a job you have to take your time with and you learn a lot about your mill. Keep going ,don’t hurry to start it is going to come. Good Luck

Read the manual you should have a hand tightening knob for the line to set it up and tighten it so that it becomes a reference. JUst read the manual and you will find out and check the boxes for the knob sort of thing.

I love your honesty. I wish everyone spoke like this. I use climbing slings or runners with carabiners all rated at close to 8000lbs (35kn) to sling my logs. They’re light and super easy to slide under big logs rather than heavy chain. I mill a lot of very large cedar. This way it’s easy to put the tapered end where you want as well. Someone mentioned rolling them on however I find having extra logs laying in front of the mill gets in the way. The blue line is your friend. 100% Zero waste with a thin board to make up 8 inches exactly or whatever you want your final size to be. This way you start milling 4/4 your first cut down to your decided measurements. You ‘should’ have an adjustable screw on there from Norwood. It should move freely. You’re right. The way you currently have it renders it somewhat useless. Get to know your scale. All the measurements you will ever need are right there. Enjoy the learning curve. It keeps your brain sharp!

I have the LM 26 purchased from a friend so have no experience putting it together. It isn't as robust as yours but I found that building platform 2 inches higher than the mill with removable 8x8 to roll the logs down onto the mill works awesome for me. I had one back surgery and I don't want another! I spoke with Norwood about being able to upgrade my mill before I purchased it. Unfortunately, I won't be able to upgrade because of track and other changes over the years. I do love my little mill so will keep it and get the molder/planer to finish my beams. I have ordered the Woodmizer LT70 super wide because I am not interested in building a machine. I also wanted a commercial strength mill that will stand up to the weight of those big logs and not have to worry about my track bending by placing those logs. Thanks for the video as it is a fair assessment of the issues!

You seem to have experienced some of the same frustrations that I have. I purchased the HD36V2 and have had one issue after another. They say the mill can be assembled in a weekend...no way possible. The instructions are poor, some of the parts in the diagrams are different, some don't fit and I have had to buckshee some of the parts. My remote didn't work and my battery doesn't hold a charge. One frustration after another...I regret buying it. The support has been satisfactory but for the price I paid I certainly expected a better engineered product and instructions that are accurate. As you say they don't explain how to actually use some of the parts and my tooth setter came with poor assembly instructions and no indication as to how to use it. Not impressed overall 😕

I got the same mill one year ago from my brother. he helped me get started with it.but its a lot to learn in a short time if your in a hurry. slow down !!!you will get it. as far as the scale . I make some tinplate out of wood with a 7/8,1 7/8, 2'" and set it on the blade before my next cut. (the blade must be fully STOPPED) no thinking needed for the size of the board you are cutting.i hope this helps .ps still learning also .

I mounted my track the same way you have yours mounted; everything was perfectly level and plumb. The first log we attempted to load on the mill bumped the track and bent it inward about a half inch and shoved the entire mill off the blocks. I ended up building a small deck (3' x 16') using 4x6 posts, concreted in the ground 24" deep. The mill is not mounted to the deck yet, but I hope I don't have any more issues like this again. I'm hoping I'll be able to straighten out the track.

Build you a strong platform about 6 or 8 feet back from your deck then use some timbers to ramp a cross to your deck . Keep them removable so you can wake between your deck and the mill .

First thing the saw is made in CANADA and i believe a lot of the components are from China . You need ramps and a swinging winch post to winch the logs up onto the bed. You can buy from norwood a auto lube kit which cuts off the water when you let the handle off. I have a lm29 and purchased it 7 years ago and had no trouble putting it together but i took the manual to bed and read it every night for a week. Ha ha . It is aslow process but once you get into a routine it becomes easy. I am about to do a youtube on my setup and i think a lot of people will benefit from what i have done to mine. So keep on sawing you have just started the journey. Cheers Rob.

I wouldn't feel guilty about having a few drinks while sawing or cutting wood. About 80% of us will do the technical work first and do the easy stuff while having a couple of brewskis or what ever. The people who object or frown are the fun haters of the world. Doing work is a great escape and fun. No judgement here.

I just finished assembly tonight but I too am having trouble with the wiring something's not right and the battery is sparking / arcing when I try to hook up the negative to the battery. What wiring problems did you have and do you have any ideas? I totally disconnected the rear cover switches. Thanks for sharing your video!

Ok I bought a lm 26 8 years ago and I only see one upgrade which is the adjustable roller guide either than that they have improved nothing I had issues with the cheaply built deck as well if you look at it the wrong way it moves and if you get bad frost in winter expect to re adjust the deck every time you use it DO not buy there ceramic blade guides the first cut I made with them on the bottom ceramic pice fell out so I put it back in an tightened it slightly more and it broke in two so I have been running the steal roller guides ever since and they work good if you overtighten your blade ( the back lip of the roller guide should be no more than an 1/8" away from the blade and if the blade runs over the lip you're blade is to lose or to dull I have worn groves in the tensioner mechanizem from having the blade so tight and that's the only way to get the most use out of your blades and not have such wavey cuts I also mounted a BBQ brush head on the back left track sweep as there idea of a track sweep is $hit to solve my floppy deck issue I built a new one out of 2x6 steel tubing 24' long on a axle and 6 adjustable jack stands problem solved last pice of advice is DO not buy the rapid log dog turning set $600 when I bought it no matter what you do the log clamps do not hold and release mid cut they would not take them back so all in all my best advice is return the mill if you can and spend a few bucks more on a better brand I wish I had if anyone has any other questions just ask I have made other improvements on my mill but this a long reply already lol good luck
