Hi Mam, Thanks to the very informative video you have done and uploaded. I had a clarification and that is, we have a borewell sourced water delivered through tanker to our house as still government water is not available at our place. The TDS is around 1000 and hardness is also high. Would you recommend to purchase a Dishwasher considering these points? Thanks in advance.

Hi Ram Kiran, please get your water tested in a food/water testing lab if possible so that you get to know your correct water hardness. You can safely buy a dishwasher up to a water hardness of 900 ppm. In case your water is very hard, you may have to install a water softener at the source. Because if the water is very hard, not only will the cleaning be affected but also your consumption of detergent, salt and rinse aid will increase, thus increasing your overall cost. In fact you can install a water softener and then go for a dishwasher.

Have you tested your water for hardness? Do you know how soft or hard your water is? I can help you with your settings only after knowing the water hardness. Because more hard water means higher the salt and rinse aid setting.

In any case, you write your requirement as to what you expect - approximate area to be cleaned, vacuum and mopping or only mopping, whether you have pets etc and the budget. Also, give your specifications for the laptop - main purpose of use, screen size, preference of processor etc. and budget. Hi mam, can you please recommend better water softener for the dishwasher? I bought this Onida dishwasher which doesn't have a setting to change the hardwater levels🤦 I know my bad that I didn't investigate much before buying. First two washes were good but not it's not clean at all. I am left with only option of trying to use water softener as my taps do have white patches with calcium deposits. Also another interesting question, isn't eco mode increases our electricity bill compared to 90 or 30 minutes cycle? I'm single with average amount of daily utensils to wash. Eco runs for 2.5hrs though it says only 0.9w per hour then it's 2.5*0.9w. thanks for your time. 🙏🏻

Hi Sorry for the delayed reply. I was busy during the last 3 - 4 months hence I could not reply earlier. Have you got your water hardness checked in a lab? If you have to go in for a softener, I am not sure which is the best in the market. Only a custom built one could work but they are expensive and also may not be available for small requirements. Please try to check out the option of connecting soft water in the long run. Although the eco program runs for a long time, it uses the least power and water as it heats to an optimum temperature and runs for a long time. It is not 0.9 W X 2.5 hours. Totally it is only 0.9 kWh. Thanks.

Hi Agha Uzma, as I have mentioned in the video, please get your water hardness tested. That will help you in adjusting proper salt and rinse aid settings. If the water is soft, it is not advisable to keep it in a high level of salt setting. This will definitely affect the working and not give good cleaning results. Salt settings should be based on your water hardness. If you had set it on high, reduce it by 2 levels and try washing. Check if your results are good. In the mean time, get your water tested in a lab. Thanks.

Hi Mam! Your videos are amazing and really helpful. We need one clarification Mam. We are using Faber dishwasher for the past one month. The vessels were cleaned property during the first two washes. Later, after every wash there is white salty layer on all the vessels. We maintained the salt level and rinse aid level full, but it doesn't work. We adjusted the rinse aid level number of times, but the problem is not resolved.😢 We are using finish detergent, rinse aid and salt. What should we do to rectify this and is there any specific settings to be adjusted in the dishwasher. And shall we use ordinary drinking water for dishwasher. Please let us know, Mam. Hi Samshath Begum, thanks for finding my videos helpful. Sorry about the issues in your dishwasher. From what you have written I guess your water is very hard. Did you check your water hardness by testing it in a lab? Unless you know the correct hardness, salt and rinse aid level settings will not be accurate. Moreover, you cannot come to any conclusion by changing the settings on a day to day basis. You have to try washing in one particular setting for at least a week, before trying out other settings. Also you have not mentioned about the program you use regularly. I can only suggest one thing assuming that your water is hard, that keep your setting in factory setting(H04 i think, as i do not know your model) and also try to change your detergent to Fortune or Bosch, as Finish detergent is not well suited for very hard water. You can try out programs like Eco if you haven't tried it yet. Please let me know the results after the changes. Thanks.

You can operate the dishwasher with high salt and rinse aid settings but still the cleaning will not be like soft water. And the consumption of consumables will be very high. Hi Amiya, are you referring to 900 ppm of TDS or water hardness? These two are different as shown in the video. If indeed, hardness is more than 900 ppm, it is better to fix a softener. Contact a water treatment company in your city and get one installed from them. I am not sure which readymade brand available in the market is good. But remember, softener needs consumables (salt) and maintenance, so please look at the options of connecting soft water supply to the dishwasher in the long run if possible. Thanks.

Hi Deepa, tablets have additional ingredients for better cleaning and take care of hardness also to some extent. Have you shifted to Finish products? I would like to know what your water hardness(not TDS) is. You cannot randomly keep increasing the salt setting levels without knowing the exact hardness of your water. Also, you have not mentioned which program you are regularly using on a regular basis and whether you got the difference in cleaning while using the same program. Please set the salt and rinse aid setting based on your water hardness. If your water is very hard you can try Bosch consumables in future. But before that try to find your water hardness. Hope this helps. Please write to me with more details and in case you have more doubts. Thanks.

Try to keep your detergent compartment dry always. Why is the detergent note coming out of the compartment? If the compartment is dry, after the program starts, it should automatically fall inside the machine during the way cycle. I don't think that adding water and making a liquid is advisable. You get Finish in Gel form as well. You can try that if you want. For your TDS, you can set your salt and rinse aid level at level 2. Observe for a few days at this setting. If the cleaning is good, you can continue the same settings, else increase by one level. I would suggest not checking during the cycle. During the cycle, the powder will get dispensed over a period of time and not all at once. After the completion of the cycle, if detergent remains, then you have to address that. If the compartment is clean at the end, then there is no problem. You could check whether the rubber gasket on the detergent compartment is damaged, if the problem persists. Thanks.

Hi Sushant, based on the results, your water hardness does seem very high. Although dishwasher manufacturers recommend using dishwasher up to water hardness of 900 ppm, this would mean keeping the salt and rinse aid settings in the machine very high thereby increasing their costs. Even after this, I am not sure whether the cleaning will be similar to using direct soft water. In the long run it is better to use the dishwasher with soft water for better cleaning results and long machine life. So, my recommendation would be to fix a water softener before the dishwasher so that the water hardness will come down to below 400 ppm. Or the best alternative would be to make some arrangement to supply soft water to dishwasher. Hope this helps. Thanks.
