Based on my experience with united nations one need to engage much with others organizations first in order to gain and get exposure that could possibly help you climb the ladder to professional position when you join UN. Do you think this can apply also for UN translators and interpreters ? I feel that interpreters department specially hiring process works a little diferent than the rest of the UN but what do you think? ^^ thats the area I dream to apply someday. My mother tongue is Spanish, im from south america and lived 2 years in China. My bachelor is Chinese Language and now im preparing to do my master studies in English- Spanish translation and interpretation. Which department would most likely hire me with a languages profile? I am interested in working for UNICEF & UNCHR. I have been working with UN 5-8 Years and everything working with connections if you have friend or family member could help you to pass the exam and interview or if you could have someone in UN before friend it will intervene you to get a job -all i experience like asian collecting each other special phililipines -Africans and US -EU as well -all what its say its not true at all- even never you worked in UN even no Experience if you have someone to help you there it will be i am 100% i have seen and experience during UN

First of all she isn't Kenyan so she doesn't know what form 4 leaver is. I would suggest you try UN Volunteers. You could also search for jobs in Turkana or Samburu or Marlal. It could be a start. I wish you the best.

It depends on the qualifications requirements defined in the vacancy notice. Normally a PhD is required for specialized and technical roles. And might also be useful in consulting. A master's degree, however, is essential for most international professional roles. The UN system is vast and complex. Fluency in French and/or Arabic and the desire to work in hardship duty stations, emergencies and post-conflict/disaster contexts also would also be important.

I have been applying to UN with my Degree thinking it was of an added advantage over other candidates when they asked for Diploma or Secondary school Certificate, I didn't know i was increasing chances of being disqualified. un till I have gone back to do Diploma and getting shortlisted now.

I’m currently in 1st year pursuing a Bachelors in CS and I’m planning to do masters in Machine Learning and I think there’s a lot that technology can do to help solve a lot of major world issues and it can do it fast. I wanna work in a field where I can use tech for social good but I’m worried I won’t find very interesting jobs in the UN with my background and people with a background in Humanities will more likely get interesting roles. I have my first UN interview in a week with the organization for migration (IOM). It took 5 weeks from application to getting the interview email. I couldn't believe when I got the email. I've applied a few times for admin jobs but of course never heard back.

@@Ali_maj I never saw this message. I got the interview because I matched the job 100%. The job was working at an airport helping refugees who arrived to my country. I had the right experience because I worked for airlines. I was already doing the same job and I worked at the airport they were hiring for. That's how I got my interview. You have to currently be doing the same job at the same workplace.

Anyone can apply to the UN. Getting a job is another story, only apply to roles that directly correspond with your skill set (i.e. read the Terms of Reference closely)
