Do Modifications Actually Work? Taking a Prodigy from Good to Great

Often times, Guntubers talk about how upgrades feel and not what they do. In this video, I take a Springfield Prodigy and upgrade to be competitive.

Nice video Polly The extrapolation probably isn’t quite 1:1 - inside 15 the difference is probably going to shrink - but those portions of stages with tight partials is going to definitely stratify the shooters and guns - great testing - inspires me to look harder at ammo

Definitely a "competitor pedigree"!! I loved how you approached the tests and used actual hit factor as a comparison basis. That makes it more science and less opinion only, like we see out there all the time. Great video my friend! I can't wait to debut the Prodigy in LO - Will probably shoot our classifier match with it.

Well done. I transformed my Prodigy the same way with even more subtle mods. Pinned the safety and did a comp blend on parts around the grip for comfort. Also tapped the stock mag telease for a short Double Tap button. Added a Shield RMSx and it's a real beast on paper and steel.

Fuckin hilarious, because this is what I am doing right now. My coworker and I bungled a safety install yesterday 😂. Let that be a warning to people who are going to pick up some nice safeties. PS. My coworker has worked on Nighthawks, Wilson's, Staccato's, etc...this was the first time he has ever messed up fitting a safety.

It was normal to with favtory 1911s to swap in ignition kits, controls, etc. Springfield, Kimber, what have you. You just budget in the fixes to cost cutting so your 1911/2011 performs as it should have.

My gun money has all been spoken for for a long while, I fear.🤣

@@BS-un1wk it’s great of you have some know how and tools, but it you only know enough to make yourself dangerous, then a 1911 is definitely best left to the professionals if you want it to be reliable. A “gumsmiff” can really f up a 1911 and even cause dangerous and/or deadly malfunctions. I think that knowledge, know how, and the right tools in the right hands can be worth it’s weight in gold. Scott is the real deal and he’s just one man taking care of his family by living out his dream in the gun business. I’ll support that ANY day 👍🏻🫡 that’s the American dream. If you can afford 1300 for an extra range pistol, then you can afford to have a family man make it the best it can possibly be, that’s just my opinion 🤷🏻‍♂️

Considering the Prodigy as an entry point to some kind of competitive shooting before this old dawgs eyesight clocks out. So all in you are at 1800 + the cost of a CZ armorer for those of us who do not have one on speed dial 😅 call it 2k. could probably find a stock race gun that’s similarly appointed out the box - and remove the reliability variable of a parts pistol and (because It sounds cool) tolerance stacking. would be interested in your opinion there and maybe a short list of some 2k guns - OA Defense 2311 is at the top of my list, tho it will probably need to be made race ready too

Picked my 4.25” up for 1k used with a few things including a 509T. Added EGW ignition kit and red dirt trigger. Some polish work on the barrel, lug timing, and reeming/finishing the chamber. Altas DLC ambi safeties. I’m into it 1500 total. It’s lights out consistent. Had to add a cheely XL firing pin and XP FP spring to prevent lite strikes. These guns won’t run with 17# main springs. Period! Unless the firing pin is changed

The 5” guns have issues cycling due to slide mass. The newer 5” guns actually have a ton of material removed from the slide to get it lighter.. The 4.25” comes with a 12# recoil spring that seems to get weak rather quickly. For example the 4.15” staccato Heritage has a 13# recoil spring with a slide that is lighter than the 4.25” prodigy. I won’t tell people they are wrong however I work on these guns A LOT. I own half a dozen 2011’s ranging from a grand to over 7k$..

Ehhh… it’s more like taking a base model Camaro SS and turning into a racecar for Trans Am… what’s important is there such as the frame, barrel (especially being a bull barrel) and slide. So you can extract the performance, it just won’t feel and act like a real race car
