Stoic dude was awesome. From reading a Japanese newspaper the cost of living is very hard. My wife is Japanese and she and her family are wonderful. I wish the people of Japan prosperity and peace.
I like the first guy's attitude. "I compare myself to the way I was in the past, not to other people now." I think he is a care worker in an old people's home. "A welfare job" doesn't really tell us anything. Saving money for the future is always a good idea but investing it is better. Otherwise inflation will devalue your savings. I have been living in Japan for over 20 years now. It is a safe place and the people are very kind. The government has always had the strategy of devaluing the yen to make Japanese products cheaper overseas. But this leads to inflation in food and energy prices in Japan. Housing prices have stayed relatively low because the population is declining.

I agree with you, this broken monetary system is the problem, we have been fed this lie that goverments are the solution to everything when in fact the money manipulation is how they slowly syphon our productivity. Dont you find it odd that humanity is gaining productivity and making production cheaper yet the cost of living just keep rising? Just get bitcoin and escape this great scam that is the FIAT monetary system, where the rich get richer by printing money, while the small folks work all day for a fixed income that will just get debased at the end.
the biggest issue is the fact that we feel poor but we're not gonna do anything to change the situation.

The Yen has dropped 55% vs USD this year. It was down by 30% just last year. Some ASEAN currencies have also gained vs. the Yen.The record number of tourists visiting Japan at the moment is due to this. Hence, the situation is not the same amongst other countries.

I'm from Singapore and frankly I'm appalled by how weak the yen has become. It used to be 100yen = SGD1.22. now it's 100yen = S$0.86. I genuinely worry for the Japanese, for I love and admire your people and culture. Yes, we Singaporeans have been flocking to Japan as tourists because of the weak yen. Please forgive the tourist crowds. Please know that when I go to Japan, I do my best to spend as much as I can. Hopefully it will help your economy in some way.
I get it. Japan is a rich country but Japanese people may not feel it that way. I've watched it because I'm learning Japanese but asking high school students to get a proper real picture of the Japanese economy and the effects of weak yen on daily life just does not make sense.🤣

Architect for 300,000 yen per month in the USA well you can certainly get work, it might not be architecture. However you will get the chance to design your cardboard and trash bag shack in the woods or sidewalk at that price, if you want to eat.
When I visit Japan, I don’t frequent the restaurants that much. We rent a place with an efficiency kitchen and shop at the grocery store. Some things seem way overpriced but other things seem reasonable. We don’t eat much so we don’t spend a lot. We are not too big on tourist places but prefer the quiet of the countryside. Yes sometimes I go to big cities, mostly to shop at hardware stores. Japanese tools are better than the American equivalent. Of course I have my foreign “vices” so I always hunt for boba shops. Oftentimes we travel during typhoon season because tickets are cheaper. We also make excursions to Okinawa, or maybe Yakushima. If needed we get the JR pass but it isn’t as good as it used to be. We seldom rent a car because it is scary to drive on the other side of road. Sometimes I take my bike, but due to my age, I limit my riding to less than 100 km in a day. In Okinawa my favorites are Shikwasa, Beni imo, chinsuko, and a small fish called Gurukun. Okinawan soba is hard to beat. I like the Haari boat race or paddling the Sabani. The mangroves on Iriomote are wonderful.

I feel for them. I visited earlier this year and benefited very much from the weaker yen, as everything felt, if not cheap, at least reasonable. But I won’t visit the US again right now because the pound is weak against the dollar and their prices are sky high anyway, so i felt really poor there. It absolutely sucks to feel that way, especially when there are tourists coming in being smug about things being cheap for them!

If the guy with the cap had any idea his own country's lack of good financial decisions are a big cause of his suffering, I think he'd be more upset. Heiwa Boke is strong in these NPCs. They don't realize they're living in a house that is slowly burning because they don't seem to care to watch what is happening to their economy. Gaman and Shouganai attitudes are what's fueling this economy of NPCs that don't care about politics, but eventually the Gaman will burst and a sinking Japan will no longer be Shouganai.

Japan is suffering from overtourism like many places and I can’t blame them for wanting to introduce some ‘tourist tax’ not that it will change much. Tourists need to stop going to the same places as everyone else. There’s more to Japan than Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka
@martinhollings
15 күн бұрын
@@DeepValue-cr2pg I agree that there is a LOT more to Japan but don't most first time tourists go to the popular places? Assuming you're from the US (given the USD comment) do people visiting your country for the 1st time go to New York and LA or Boise and Portland? London or Leeds? Rome or Turin? The less popular places are not going to be the usual 1st choice for 1st time visitors, that's the reality.
What welfare 60k yen a month? Is he doing a part time job cuz 60k a month is way below of Japan's minimum wage. That 60 k is just for rent and service bills
Comparing your past life and your present life, what has changed? “I have become Japanese.”
"we feel blessed for what we have" is the right attitude. However, there should be programs in generating interest in politics and economy so normal people understand what is happening. The cause and effect of policies, etc. The first dude's response was ahh, it cant be helped is infuriating.
How can one survive in Japan on an income of 60,000 yen per month? Did you get it right? I believe he meant 60,000 per week as your initial question to him was “how much do you earn per week or per month”.
Clearly some of the people you have interviewed are still delusional concerning the state of japan's economy and its falling Yen.

Japan should raise prices for all foreigners. The local residents can get discounts/refunds. When the Yen is strong, Japan also then complains saying nobody buys their products as it’s too expensive. Japanese cars should be selling well due to the weak yen. Tourism for Japan is crazy. So raise prices and pay workers more.
