Do It Yourself: Homemade Natural Hair Gel with Flaxseeds

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Re-Upload Original Upload Date: April 30, 2010
This is an amazing natural hair gel LOaDEd with essential oils and nutrients. While other gets work against your hair, this one (from nature) works with it, to restore it's healthy shine and add moisture back into the cuticles!
I love the way it makes my hair and hands feel after applying it. And unlike other chemically processed gels, it doesn't leave your hair rock hard, so you can comb it and restyle whenever you want, your hair just soaks it in and uses the nutrients...can you tell that I really love this stuff!

Just a couple hints for the other newbies out there:: It started to boil after about one minute on HIGH, and foam over almost immediately. I turned the heat to MEDIUM and it continued to boil nicely and only took about five minutes to be at what I thought to be the right consistency.

Flax seed gel is a great substitute for eggs when you're cooking and baking too. I've made cookies, cakes, soups, used it as thickener for gravy, plus all sorts of stuff with it. I even make an imitation heavy cream with it by boiling the flax seeds in almond or coconut milk. You can do all the same things with chia seeds too.

FYI... A wire strainer works perfectly! No fuss whatsoever. I just sit a wire strainer over a large glass measuring cup and pour the hot liquid in there. Then move the seeds around in the strainer with a spatula and everything comes out just fine. Super quick and easy.

A friend of mine used chia seeds. Not sure if they have the same properties, but the consistency was the same. After seeing these gels, I have no clue why I ever used store bought styling gels (or store bought anything after watching your homemade/DIY vids). You learn something new everyday. Thanks chica! ^_^

omg this stuff is the bomb! i just made mine adding wheat germ oil (ceramides), sunflower oil (to soften coarse strands), jojoba oil (emoilents), my oil blend from my beautician, rosemary ess. oil, and lavender ess. oil. I just put it on a small section of my hair (half relaxed, half natural) and omg! My hair is actually moisturized and it held a curl in under 5 minutes with a flexirod. I'm usually lazy, and I never do DIY hair stuff, but naptural's hair is gorgeous so I decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did. If you're hesitant on trying this and your hair is dry, coarse and hard to moisturize like mine, definitely try this. Thanks *****! ***UPDATE*** In the recent flaxseed gel batch I made I pretty much eliminated all the oils in the recipe and just used ylang ylang essential and a little bit of rosemary essential oil just for scent and to preserve it. Without the extra oils, the gel had a much stronger hold and my hair wasn't crunchy the next day.

Do you know if the essential oils are necessary? I don't have them and plus the ones I looked up online are kind of expensive. I don't think she mentioned whether you could do without the oils or not.

I used a wave cap though and it made it super easy to get it out I was at step three for squeezing in less than a minute. I added rosemary, lavender, emu oil, jojoba and sweet almond oil. It made my curls pop!!!! Thank you so much for being a wonderful help .

So, I know I'm not the only one who's watched this video a hundred times, PERPLEXED over wanting to try this recipe but extremely low on funds or maybe unable to get to a place that sells whole flax seeds. During one of many health kick months awhile back, I purchased some flax seed MEAL to add to my smoothies. Back to the dilemma, every internet source I'd found said gel from meal couldn't be done.....Well, I've SOLVED that problem and you're gonna smack yourself in the forehead in just a second. **Drum roll please? **.....#RepurposedTeaBags :-) #IWantPatentedRights lol...I just carefully undid the tea bags, refilled it with flax seed meal a tsp at a time and fastened it with a small safety pin. I used 4 bags full in maybe 2 cups of water, boiled them and stirred occasionally.I also added 2tsp of honey, a few drops of tea tree lavender EO, a glob of Aloe Vera GEL and a couple squirts of Vitamin E. It does take a little longer than 10 min...I averaged 30 per batch, but it saved me a few coins when i needed them...:-) Hope I've helped someone! Be blessed naturals! !

Yes. You can boil them at the same time as the flax seeds or you can soak the chia seeds overnight and put the earnings into the water to make the flaxseed gel. It gives a stronger hold. If you need more slip then add slippery elm or marshmallow root to your flaxseed as you boil it. I love it.

Neftaly Macias visit a trichologist, dermatologist, or medical dr to rule out any internal problems that may cause hair loss. After that, always remember that brushing, combing, styling hair ect can cause mechanical damage if done improperly

  • @vixenluchelle

I agree with her^ about checking it out first. but there are so many things that can contribute to hair loss. It could be your diet, stress levels, products your using or your regimen, dehydration, or an actual medical problem that causes premature hair loss. I suggest drinking a lot of water every day, preferably how many lbs you weigh but in ounces. Also I suggest Jamaican black castor oil for your hair loss. It can be a bit thick though so I would dilute it or only use it at night if your hair is thin. By dilute I mean with a lighter oil like coconut oil or argan oil OR add a little to your conditioner. Also try pairing this with hair, skin, nails. And try eating healthy because you are what you eat. If your hair is thin I still think this would work for you. If not try something light and not too heavy because it doesn't sound like you need much. Allllso lol I recommend using a volumizing shampoo and conditioner to make your hair appear thicker and make it easier to hold a curl. I'd do my flexi's at night and use a very light holding spray in the morning before taking them out. WHEW sorry for the book but I hope this helps love :)

She has a lot of hair, so I am sure she reuses the seeds to make more gel before those three weeks are up. For most of us though, it wouldn't be worth trying to store them, we couldn't use up that much gel in three weeks time.

If the package of seeds is sealed, you can probably leave them out (in cool, dry place) for several months. Once the package is opened it needs to be refrigerated immediately. A few hours shouldn't hurt, but if you can help it, I would recommend not chancing it.

    8 жыл бұрын

+Taliah Connor thats what i wanna know! i live by the eco gel. it defines my curls and keeps my hair manageable...but its drying and a little flakey so i've been looking for an alternative

  • @individuallyme8226

    @individuallyme8226

    8 жыл бұрын

+anonymizzle the eco styler gel is a heavier gel with a little more hold. the flaxseed gel does have hold but it's a light gel. when your hair dries after using flaxseeds it will be soft. eco styler gel dries and makes the hair crunchy unless you use it with a conditioner/moisturizer.
