Do Bugs Sleep? Why They're Surprisingly Similar to People
news.nationalgeographic.com/20...
"Paper wasps, cockroaches, praying mantises, and fruit flies are among insects that doze. Fruit fly sleep is even similar to mammal sleep, since the flies respond to sleep-inducing chemicals and caffeine, just like people, Klein says."
The Secrets of Ant Sleep Revealed
news.bbc.co.uk/earth/hi/earth_...
"Queen fire ants fall into relatively long, deep sleeps and kip for an average of nine hours every day. By contrast, workers sleep just half as much and get to rest by taking hundreds of short power naps. This division of rest may help explain why queens live for years, while worker ants typically only live for months."
Sleep deprivation impairs precision of waggle dance signaling in honey bees
www.pnas.org/content/107/52/22...
"Here we show that sleep-deprived honey bees (Apis mellifera) exhibit reduced precision when signaling direction information to food sources in their waggle dances. The deterioration of the honey bee's ability to communicate is expected to reduce the foraging efficiency of nestmates."

Of course insects sleep. My mommy says so. After I swat a fly or a mosquito they go to sleep for a long time....

Not an insect, but I think I woke my pet tarantula up once. When I got up, I looked into it's tank and it was slouched over onto one side, but when I turned on the bedroom light, it got up and crawled over to the entrance of it's hut and waited for some breakfast.

On a serious note, it wouldn't surprise me if web-spinning spiders probably do sleep the majority of their life. No point in staying alert and awake when all you have to do is sit there until something lands in your web.

You scared me when you said spiders don't sleep. Now I'll be paranoid for eternity, as if I wasn't already with spiders and roaches.

So both humans and ants are social animals that suffer chronic sleep deprivation? I wonder if other social animals have problem with a lack of sleep too.

i wouldve imagined they didnt sleep because they are so small so they use less energy. making it so that they gain enough energy when other things happen and it makes up for the energy that they lose making ti so they didnt need to sleep. which is why you almost never see a bug/arachnid in a fight and get tired after a while
