I just picked up a 2019 Civic Type R, has 8 miles on it. It’s a good time to strip wash, and decontaminate. Yellow Rupes pad, Sonax perfect finish. Should be a gem 💎

    If you were to switch after just a few months, then you could possibly run into some compatibility issues, but if you've waited past the coating's effective life, then there shouldn't be an issue. Obviously if you're doing paint correction, then it doesn't matter at all.

    I have Gtechniq Ultra ceramic coating applied and results are not great. Several areas are rough like sandpaper. The detailer is certified and very experienced and has not had this happen before. It appears like the ceramic coating failed during the curing process. He had room temperature in his garage and humidity level was around 45. New car that he fully prepared and polished before applying coating. He has now polished the coating to remove rough areas and applied some Gtechniq EXO but results are still not smooth. Does the ceramic coating need to be fully removed and new ceramic coating applied?

The surface of the car has a lot of swirls smaller scratches which are visible in harsh direct sunlight. I want to polish the car to remove some of theese defects and portentially restore some gloss. Will i be able to get a good result, even if i dont remove the coating entirely? Is it possible to polish a coating? Or will it just leave more defects in the coated surface until all the coating is gone?

    It depends on how long it's been on there. If it's still pretty hydrophobic, then you might have some issues with bonding. If the water behavior is relatively flat, then proceed with your plan as outlined and you shouldn't have any issues.

    Great video! But I have a question. I am about to put Ethos on my mothers new car. I don’t live near her to be able to wash her car on a regular basis. She is in her 80’s, and doesn’t hand wash her car. She goes through (gasp) a car wash on a fairly regular basis. And no, it isn’t brushless. She gets the wax added on. I believe they do use a “ceramic” wax. How would this affect the life of the coating?

  • @Esotericdetail

    @Esotericdetail

    2 жыл бұрын

    Chances are, they're using pretty harsh chemicals for that kind of wash, so it's going to have some kind of effect on it. Just a thought, but if that's how the car is going to be maintained, is it worth the coating? It's there simply to provide long-term good looks, and ease of maintenance. When we've had customers tell us that's how it will be maintained, we usually talk them out of doing it as they aren't really gaining anything at that point.
