Great video. I'm a first-time viewer of your channel. I'll definitely check out more of your videos, but I'll keep in mind we have very different weather in West Virginia than you have in Florida. I am a second-year beekeeper and I am pretty positive I'm going to try to run a resource Hive this year. I have two hives and then I will have my double nuv resource Hive. You pointed out some excellent reasons to keep a resource Hive in the apiary. My local Beeks shop is selling resource hives without frames for $109. I think that is a reasonable price.

Hi Regina, Sorry for the late response. You are correct that local conditions make a huge difference in the way we beekeep. I actually started my channel because there were so few Florida beekeeping KZread videos out there and we really don’t have much of a winter down here. Glad you enjoyed my video.

The double nuc hives are the size of a 10 frame, but because of the center divider, each side is a 4 frame nuc.

I’ve been preaching the gospel of resource hives/nucs, Since I started three years ago to other hobbyist around me in northern Iowa. This has mostly fallen on deaf ears, so guess who’s been selling late season Nucs to re-queen hives for a premium price August and September. excellent video and strategy that more keepers need to take advantage of!

Great video Bruce. I’ll definitely be implementing your strategy as it makes perfect sense even to a beginner like me. I guess the art is to manage the resource hive and prevent it outgrowing the Nuc box. From that point of view, is it merely a case or removing brood every now and then and reinforcing a regular hive with the frame?

Hi Andy, Thanks for watching. You are exactly right: If you don't need to boost a weak hive, you can keep the size of your nuc in control by donating brood to your strong hives for more honey production. Cheers,

For those of us who don't live in Florida, what do we do with these resource nucs when winter approaches?

Overwintering a nuc may not work out for your local conditions so you may consider either newspaper combining the bees into weaker colonies or setting double screen boards and stacking your colonies to share warmth.

You talk too much. Start doing.
