Do duck tape beadlocks actually work?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

How to make #DIY duck tape or actually gorilla tape beadlock wheels. We find out if they actually work at extremely low tire pressures in the snow. This will work on any non beadlock wheel, since making this video i have learned that you could probably do 5 wraps instead of 3 and the tire would still go on, let me know if you know some other tips and tricks, again this is my first time doing these and im learning with you guys!

A few tips. Steel wheels seem like the worst for tape adhesion, I'm not sure if it has something to do with the paint/powder they use, but its always the worst. Scuffing it up a lot helps....even down to bare metal if you really want to get serious. Aluminum on the other hand will separate the layers in the tape when it comes off. On the outer bead with the deep dish there are two things I have tried to help with the wrinkles. One, just use 1" wide gorilla tape. You can tear it or you can buy it in 1" wide roles. This helps it sit a lot flatter around that shape. Two. Wrap the 2" tape without pushing it down. Then take some sharp scissors and cut the overhang about every 1.5-2" or so into segments. Then push them down one by one with a slight overlap....or if you want to get really fancy...try to make hundreds of little pie cuts when your OCD kicks in.

I thought about the 1” while I was in the mood doing it thinking that sure would have worked better. I didn’t think about scuffing up the powder, that would have been a good move.

i've had no issues running 2 wraps (outer bead only) of gorilla tape on my alum 17" wheels and 42 pitbulls. 4 season of 1 and 2 psi days and not a problem

Thank you, unfortunately there will be a gap in videos because of the move and the Utah prep, but stick around because there will be a utah series coming soon and then some Spring time snow wheeling!

I have home built internal beadlocks and they are great other than slow air down and balance. They were 60 bucks a tire though. Somebody needs to figure out a better affordable beadlock. The new icons look awesome but so far only available in Jeep and Toyota patterns. That and they definitely are not cheap. Let us know what you think of those bfgs. That exact tire is likely going to be my next tire purchase.

They are decent, but definitely no where near as good as my MTRs in the snow, but they will do great in the rocks.

@chuck holt we are moving to Utah in the next year or two so rocks is my concern. I was not overly impressed by the Iroks in sand hollow.

Some aggressive Scotch-Brite prep and bead glue would probably work just as good or better. It is nice to see somebody doing honest review of a internet solution though.

Thanks, that’s also something I’ve contemplated, I’ve used bead glue in racing applications before, I just didn’t know how it would hold up to the severe cold

Because he wants to find out if duct tape beadlocks actually work. You know, its in the title of the video. Theres many ways to do most things, so why don't you go and tec-7 or some glue on the outer of your shit and make a video so we know if its worth a shit or not. You know, thats the point of this video.

That would also be fun to try, I don’t know how the glue would hold up to the severe cold temps and the constantly flexing tire when aired way down but definitely worth trying
