Do Catholics re-sacrifice Christ?

www.catholic.com/
Catholic Answers Senior Apologist Jimmy Akin explains the Catholic teaching about the Eucharist, and whether or not it is a "re-sacrifice" of Jesus Christ.
Jimmy was born in Texas and raised in Arkansas. He grew up nominally Protestant but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant pastor or seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible, but the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith. Eventually, he was compelled in conscience to enter the Catholic Church, which he did in 1992.
His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Jimmy is a Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a regular contributor to This Rock magazine, a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live," and the author of several titles including Mass Confusion: The Do's and Don'ts of Catholic Worship and The Salvation Controversy.

Are you one of the Jews that murmured among themsleves in John 6:41? John 6:41The Jews therefore murmured at him, because he had said: I am the living bread which came down from heaven. Also, are you one of the Jews that strove among themselves in John 6:52? .... John 6:52The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying: How can this man give us his flesh to eat? Again, are you one of many of His disciples that left Him, in (John 6:60)...John 6:60 60Many therefore of his disciples, hearing it, said: This saying is hard, and who can hear it? If so, John 6:41, John 6:52 John 6:60, fits YOU like a hand and glove. Protestants, why do you "MURRUR" against Jesus Christ teachings... Why do you STROVE around "SAYING HOW CAN THIS MAN GIVE US HIS FLESH TO EAT...and why is this saying HARD FOR YOU? Chad mentions Leviticus17:14, there is someone more powerful than Leviticus and it is Jesus Christ's WORD Chad mention Act 15:20 again, here the Apostles refers to other THINGS not to Jesus Christ. Protestants, why would Paul bother to say: 1 Corinthians 11: 27Therefore whosoever shall eat this bread, or drink the chalice of the Lord unworthily, SHALL BE GUILTY OF HTE BODY AND THE BLOOD OF THE LORD. 28But let a man prove himself: and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of the chalice. 29 FOR HE THAT EATETH AND DRINKETH UNWORTHILY, EATETH AND DRINKETH JUDGEMENT TO HIMSELF, NOT "DISCERNING" THE BODY OF THE LORD. 30Therefore are there many inform and weak among you, and many sleep. 31But if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. 32But whilst we are judged, we are chastised by the Lord, that we be not condemned with this world. (THIS DOES NOT SEEM TO BE A SYMBOL) Protestants and I could say Atheist as well because they to don't believe, that, YOU ALL do not DISCERN that that we must eat and drink the Lord Body and Blood for our salvation. Jesus Christ, Bread/ Body, Wine / Blood are ONE and the SAME. Protestants, ok, ok, ok, ok, let say you are correct and we Catholics got it wrong, for taking Our Lord Word LITERALLY re: His Body and Blood that we must eat and drink to have eternal life! WOULD WE BE CONDEMNED FOR IT? NO! Jesus Christ says that NO WHERE that we will be condemned for believing it Literally!!! AMEN Protestants, now, lets say you are WRONG for not taking Our Lords word LITERALLY re: His Body and Blood that we must eat and drink to have eternal life, WOULD YOU BE CONDEMNED FOR IT? (YES) Jesus Christ does say you will be condemned here it is read it for yourself in (John 6:53)Then Jesus said to them: Amen, amen I say unto you: Except you eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, you shall not have life in you. 54He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath everlasting life: and I will raise him up in the last day. 55For my flesh is meat indeed: and my blood is drink indeed. 56He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, abideth in me, and I in him. 57As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father; so he that eateth me, the same also shall live by me. 58This is the bread that came down from heaven. Not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead. He that eateth this bread, shall live for ever. Protestants, I sure hate to be in your shoes. Protestants, those who do not take His Body and Blood Literally is an anti christ, here is why the 666 in John 6:66 is no coincidence and by God this is done and it fit you all like a hand and glove. Protestants Read (John 6:66) ...John 6:66 66After this many of his disciples went back; and walked no more with him.

steven Hunt, In those other verses, Jesus explains what He means, what those things symbolize. When they ask Him to explain what He means in John 6, He repeats Himself, becoming more explicit. He never says this is symbolic or means something else. He never says that the bread is "everything [H]e is and everything [H]e says." (What does that even mean, really?) You are adding that to the text. The Jews knew what He was saying, and many of them left Him because of it!. If He meant it symbolically, why did He keep saying, "My flesh is true food; My blood is true drink," being more and more explicit about it, and did not stop them from leaving... if they'd merely misunderstood what He was saying? As for the thief on the cross, are you really suggesting we should all wait until the moment of our death to come to Christ, and then simply claim belief in Him to save us? The thief accepted that he deserved punishment and death, repented of his sins, rebuked the other thief, and asked Christ for mercy. That's more than just believing! He did all he was able to do in his particular circumstances. God is merciful and knows whether we have done the best we could with what He has given us. Luke 6:46 and Matthew 7:21 warn us that it's not just about recognizing Him as Lord. Remember, the devil and demons know that Jesus truly is God, yet they are not saved.

4:21 Well no doubt Hes not doing that today, it's because He doesnt need to... He died ONCE and for ALL to forgive the sins of everyone! The battle is already won, and our sins are forgiven as long as we repent and believe. There is nothing we are to do since Christ paid it all for us on the cross. Therefore He's not supposed to be offered up each week to take away your sins for that week. He was already sacrificed. Jesus is perfect, and if He did need here to be dying for us over and over each week, then He would be down here doing that.

+Brandon Burroughs Well, I think you may misunderstand somewhat. You say, "there is nothing for us to do since Christ paid it all of us on the cross." But Christ specifically said, "Do this in memory of me." Right? So we do have an obligation to do it. Also, Catholics don't celebrate the Eucharist to "take away your sins of that week". Sins are forgiven through the sacrament of Confession (Jn 20: 21-23). So what is the point of the Eucharist? Catholics believe that this is the actual body and blood of Christ ... because He said it was (Mt 26: 26-28, Mk 14: 22-24, Lk 22: 19-20, Jn 6: 22-69). So receiving the Eucharist is an opportunity to come into direct, physical union with Christ and receive His grace. But remember that at the last supper Christ gave himself up willingly (giving us his body) under the appearances of bread and wine. In other words, He began His sacrifice by separately blessing bread and then wine (separation of one's body and from one's blood indicates death). So by keeping His command to do this, we are re-presenting Christ's sacrifice - as He ordered us to do. Mass is a sacrifice, to be sure. But it's an un-bloody one, with Christ still acting as our passover lamb.

+Brandon Burroughs Did you even hear what he was saying? It's by Jesus's command that "WE" do it. He said do this. Stop hating and read your Bible. We are all to walk in his steps. Are you with the church of hate or the church of Christ? Do you even go to church?

would that mean i can do whatever i want practically anything i want because whatever i do im saved??i can kill a pesky senator right now,and by your argument im saved in the end of time. well that seems pretty easy and dangerous. "the victory is done, but the battle goes on" God made his part, its time for us to respond to that and do the other halfof it. do this in memory of of me,feed the hungry, clothe the naked, admonish the sinners etc.
