Actually very interesting to hear it from someone who knows what they're talking about, personally I find that my blue light glasses help with eye strain during the day and at night, especially when I'm staring at a screen for upwards of 2 hours.
I'm a full time student and I found that blue light glasses allowed me to not only work without getting fatigued, but also helped with my sleep patterns. During Co-Vid19 it's been especially difficult to regiment screen-time considering all classes have transferred to the digital realm. I'm sure that other people under various circumstances are also increasing their screen time. My overall recommendation to anyone who seriously scrolling through these comments for actual feedback is to 1. reduce your screen-time, and 2.) if that's not an option go ahead and try blue light glasses. They're not a perfect solution they could help some screen-fatigue and sleep disruption issues.

Just to be able to detect the blue light screens emit, the devise has to be in a completely dark room, because just regular light bulbs emit more blue light than any screen, and neither come any where near the Sun. If blue light glasses help it's just placebo, to some that is enough.

2 жыл бұрын
@@Rebecca-asdf It's the brightness for some, the frequency (Hz) fluctuation rate (I honestly thing this is the main reason that will set off a migraine in people), the environment, so many factors and everyone is different. For me I found that the brilliant white 60w LED bulbs don't cause me insane migraines like whatever offices use. Had to trial and error it because the fixture in my apartment's computer room ONLY takes LED lights and the walls are an obscene dark cream colour unfortunately (combo of reasons I was getting migraines even at home).

Great discussion. I have the blue block tint in my eyeglasses for many years now and was introduced to it when I moved to Taiwan. As a dispensing optician, I frequently get asked about blue light glasses (a patient asked me about them earlier today as it happens). It’s quite a hard product to justify sometimes as so much of the data is merely anecdotal. The advice I generally give is the same as in this video - that it can help some people therapeutically but some people really don’t notice the difference. Conversations about reducing screen time (especially for kids) is becoming an increasingly difficult topic - be great to see a vid with your take on this! Dan

I’ve been wearing blue light glasses for the last 4 days and can say it’s 100% helped me with my sleep, I used to suffer from headaches nearly every day and I haven’t had a headache in the last 3 days, would 100% recommend using them mainly for helping fix your sleeping pattern if your constantly using a pc or phone screen like myself

I'm on my phone watching KZread videos, playing games on my Switch, etc. Used to get headaches, not anymore. It is smart to reduce your screen time. I would have to say that blue light lenses do actually work and prevent headaches/migraines

I know when I play video games too much or stare at my computer screen all day that my eyes feel tired and very dry. I find blue light gaming glasses help a bit but I also sometimes switch to moisture goggles for dry eye.
I got my bue filter glasses yesterday.and immediately i can see a difference in my sleel. I tend to sleep alot longer and sleep more deeply. I love it
Great Video, I'm going to look into to these now!
thank you so much for the eye-crossing tutorial on FB 👍 you're a fantastic eye doctor

Haha thank you!!! Glad you liked it. I hope to have more mini - vids on there soon.
The glasses are a great option for graphic designers like me. For us, it's not an option to have some software alter the colors on the screen. So I got myself a pair of premium blue light blocking glasses today which reduce the color alteration to a not noticable level. Have them on for about 4 hours now and already recognize a difference. They also have an anti glare coating which at least feels like it makes stuff on the screen appear a little bit sharper too.

why is it not an option to alter the colors in software but it is an option to alter the colors with your glasses? both are altering color in a way that does not translate to the final product, so they are equally detrimental to your work.

Thanks for Helping Dear Doc!
I turned on the blue light filter on my phone, my eyes relaxed immediately, I think I’ll try the glasses as well. Very informative upload. Thank you.
My first full semester of college online and I do not want headaches 🥴✌🏽
I started using blue light filtered glasses because my eyes were starting to get very sensitive to lights when I'm driving to work at 3am every morning. It definitely helped my eyes adjust to the bright streetlights & harsh daylight when I eventually did go outside once the sun went up. They definitely helped me have a better sleep also as I only ever got about 5 hours sleep each night and when every second counts, you gotta make the most of it lol
Thanks for the video homie
Ahh thank you! Ive realized that if I dont use the night mode on my phone, I get TERRIBLE migraines! Just ordered my pair of glasses😄🤚🏻
I look at a computer about 7 hrs/day. I used to have major discomfort, blurry vision, eye strain, headaches, insomnia, dry eyes, red eyes, and tired eyes. My eyes were literally more tired than my mind and body after work. To put it simply, I was miserable. After using blue light glasses, the difference was like night and day. It was miraculous. The best 20 bucks I ever spent.
I will be trying blue eye glasses this week. I’m in college online classes BC of corona and I’ve been having to spend a lot of time during the week on the computer and I wake up get on the computer and my eyes hurt and I struggle to sleep bc my eyes get teary and just hurt from being over worked for the past month
Good work. Thank you
This is like the 5th video from this channel I’ve watched. Super informative! 😁
Good video Dr Allen. I don't know much about the filters on cell phones but my understanding is that the blue-blocking spectacle lenses only cut about 30% of the intensity. Given that the amount of blue light emitted by electronics is 50 to 100 times less than of outdoor sunlight, I am skeptical that the blue-blocker tints do much. I do treat a lot of digital eyestrain patients and first advise good nearpoint habits, ergonomics, supportive lens prescriptions, and anti-glare coatings helpful. If they were not marketed as 'computer' glasses nobody would be interested I think. I would say the excessive focusing and narrowed visual awareness involved with electronics is much more of a threat to vision than is the minimal amount of blue light they now emit.

Nice! Happy to hear it! What brand of lenses are you wearing?
I started wearing glasses when I started college 2 years ago, thinking that I would need them in the class or when reading, using devices, etc. They were initially meant to be worn only when reading or studying, but with the on-campus lifestyle, I used to wear them all day. Yes, they have a blue light filter and yes, I feel great wearing them, it feels very comforting. My question is, is it normal to feel eye fatigue when I don't have them on? My eyes would just turn red and teary.
I’ve gotten blue light glasses for about 9 months now and I’ve definitely seen a change in headaches for the good but I still sometimes get the burning sensation in my eyes after I close them though, I do sleep a lot better now because of them. Would 100% recommend for people i front of a screen for a long period.
Damn I’ll been needing these glasses since I play on the tv and phone too much

Simple question if your work requires you to be staring at a screen all day should you consider blue light blocking glasses
hello doctor, thanks for your videos. Could you explain the difference between using dark or light screens on computers? I mean which one you think does the least damage when it comes to working with computers. ? thanks
Great explanation! Thank you!
I sell and use blue light glasses. I have sensitive eyes and I like them in bright rooms and when I’m in the computer. Some People do not like them if they edit photos or they are artists because it makes colours look yellow. Kind of like photochromic lenses some love them and some hate them.
@DoctorEyeHealth

Absolutely. I personally love photochromics and I still discuss blue blocking for people who spend a lot of time on digital devices.
Great info! I was offered to try these blue light glasses a few weeks back when I was shopping for frames. They're a bit pricey.

It's been 3 months since you posted this comment, but hey.. maybe I can still help if you didn't get them still! I ordered my pair a few weeks ago on a website and received them today. They offer a wide range of options and frames so there's something for everyone and the prices are really good! If you enter your email address, just wait a bit and you will receive good offers from them quite often. I got 55% discount and decided to buy them. Total was 41$, although it's worth mentioning that I live in Croatia so the delivery fee might me slightly less if you are closer to them. I don't think I can post a link for the website here so if you'd like the link, feel free to send me a private message! :)
Yeah, I'm getting these. I'm losing sleep and my eyes hurt while working. Thanks a lot.
Thanks very good video! short and powerfull information.
I was suffering bad with headaches and eye pain and even the swelling in eyes but after I started using blue light glasses I'm all well. It really works.
I just got anti blue light glasses yesterday. Although I never experienced head aches or much eye strain from working on the computer all day, these glasses somehow relieved my eyes instantly. Maybe I just didn't realize my eyes were strained or I just got used to having eye strain all the time. I dunno but I love these new glasses. Not sure if they have UV protection built in or not but they also help my eyes feel better when outside in the sunlight, too.
I appreciate your talking about validity of studies.. I think it's more popular to wear these as a trend right now. Good content. Thanks!

I appreciate that! Thank you. Even in the past few years there have been some studies making large and outrageous claims...but if you read the study you find the study was designed poorly and really doesn't come to any true conclusions.

I've been really struggling with eye strain, pain in the back of my eyes and blurred vision lately. My guess is looking at screens too much due to being in isolation. I have ordered some Gunnar glasses for my computer screen as I am unable to see an optician as they aren't running properly. I hope they work out thanks for the tips and help

Many professionals feel the same way, the theories about high energy light causing increased risk/retinal stress is pretty solid.
Thank you, Doctor. I had contusion of both eyes and now spending over 15h in front of the monitor. Thus here, looking for facts about the necessity of those glasses.
Thank you for the video.
