7:23 I remember being in a store and looking at CDs when a guy came up and told me "to watch for 50 cent. He's going to be huge." I bought his mixtape before he got shot (How to rob was on it) and was amazed. A few months later he was mega huge! Also, DMX is very underrated. Dude was a beast and he wasn't scared of going against anyone. He poured his heart into his music. I remember, before he died, watching videos of him reading Scriptures and crying. Such a tormented soul trying his best to do right. He knew too much about the darkness of the music industry. I hope he's in heaven.

DMX's ability to tell a detailed, complex story in a song was unmatched, only NAS and Biggie came close but DMX mastered that. I feel like you can take most of his songs (not the singles) and write a script for a tv show or movie based on his lyrics.. ATF is a good example. Tupac is my no.1 but he was not that good of a story teller but he was amazing and the absolute best at weaving in a message into his music and connecting with you as the listener on an emotional level and that's because he believed what he was rapping about. He really was that revolutionary questioning the system, so you felt it when he rapped about it.

50 Cents peak years were during Jay Z's retirement. Get Rich or Die Trying came out early 2003 and Jay Zs Black Album dropped in late 2003. By the time Jay Z came back in late 2006, 50 had dropped another giant album, Gunit had dropped one while each of it's members had dropped two, with the exception of Yayo. The Gunit legacy pretty much went downhill from there but those year of 03-07 were big for 50. Jay is a guy who's just been at the top for a very long time. He might not have two records that sold 8 and 10m like 50. But he has over 10 albums that have steadily sold 2m-5m over 3 decades. Longevity.

Being from NY we never argued in HS at the lunch table about Pac. We always had fodder over Jay-Z Raekwon Big and Nas depending on what area of the city you are from. When Jay-Z dropped Reasonable Doubt and Vol 1 those albums went over people's heads because cats weren't up on him. Vol 2 Hard Knocks brought Jay-Z into the commercial side of things. Jay-Z was already at the Tyson fights before fame that was confirmed during his Streets is Watching days. Vol 1 is classic straight-up Blue Print and Vol 2 is all classic joints so it's all up to preference. Jay-Z got better lyrically by coming into the game rapping alongside dudes that were better than him(Big L) Jay-Z and DMX battled each other that night on tour at the pool hall Judging from people that were in attendance it was a draw saying they both were going in. So again it's a preference for Pac Big Nas Jay-Z DMX so many others that came in and did their thang. Roca-A-Fella was one of the best movements in the game. Period. I'm not sure 20 years later why people choose to throw shade at one of the best just because they like someone else. But I digress.

This man is talking facts. Most them, taking lyrics from 2Pac, now he gone. But 3 decades later his music beats anything current. With the acting he was on a whole another level period! DMX had New York as the best and 50 Album shut down everybody. Back 2 back hits. Jay Z dont have that. Most of Jay Z good work is with Kanye anyway, and look how he did him, ppl 4get. His raise has been through Beyonce. Back in the day, Murder Ink was shuting it down. The numbers dont add up to that with Rockafeller. Just cause you accumulate money and make some business investments that go well dont make you the KING of nothing. Ppl need to stop confusing music with investments.

I was DJing 3 nights a week in the South during that time, & Jay had more than 1 or 2 joint on regular rotation. DMX was great but little weren't requesting his music like that. Jay had several songs people could dance to & chicks wanted to hear...DMX had tracks rap fans liked. Pac was the biggest star the industry ever produced (before Snoop of course), but that don't diminish Jay's run. Jay was considered great in the 90s, so saying his longevity is the only reason is crazy.
