Everything went fine and they were wanting to sign me to do an album and things were looking great…..until….they found out my father was a military tank commander vet and my parents had been married before I was born and were still together…..they didn’t care that my mother was a school teacher…they didn’t feel threatened by that but when they found out that I didn’t live in a single family home and I wasn’t in poverty and my father was an ex tank commander …shyt got real 😂 they wanted no parts of me and told me that all of a sudden the deal had fell through…….decades later I had a good friend who worked for a major record label who told me that these labels TARGET and specifically go after “artist” who come from single family homes, poverty, have no fathers, live in the projects/ghettos and that is because they are vulnerable and WILL do anything they are told to do (and also included they will agree to pushing agendas!) when he told me this my mouth hit the floor and I shared with him my story and he said oh yeah lol they DEF didn’t want no parts of you lol because you would not conform to what they wanted because you were already trained by your militant father to think strategically, logically and intelligently and these labels DO NOT want intelligent “artist”! My dad use to listen to a lot of Goodie Mob back in the day. I was never a hardcore fan aside from some of their more popular songs. I’ve seen a lot of old school musicians come out of the industry and drop some knowledge on us but this was profound. He, in the most eloquent way just told us as a consumer what’s really behind that curtain. There are kids today wanting to know what’s behind the curtain, who won’t stop until they get back there and see some wizard of oz shit and by then it’s too late.

I am to believe he was a gangster rapper and I just needed to write some bars for an introductory meeting. Now I have had numerous opportunities to get a deal, but every single time something would happen at the last minute. I mean you name it and it happened. God never closed a door on me once I asked him to open it. Never,but this one thing I kept self sabotaging. years later once I got out of my lifestyle and took time to really read and understand what the industry was like I am thankful for his grace. The Devil though just kept coming at me with opportunities and I finally learned to just say no. There is something about the industry that does something that is indescribable to ones soul and psyche the deeper you get into it.Gipp nailed it and you don't hardly ever hear it described with this type of honesty and integrity. I live for The lord now. Though it's not easy either, but I know in the end that my soul with all my struggles is intact.

The pen is mightier than the sword, as Gipp says "you can change the entire world with the right song." He's 100% serious and the evidence is everywhere, subtle and obvious. For example, Big Gipp is a writer and a rapper, if you're a an 80's kid like me they used to be known as an "M.C." which stands for Master of Ceremonies.
