DMT extra fine (really the last grit you need)

The DMT ef is a great plate. And will make a perfect fine toothed edge. 🐓

I like the Dia-Sharp plates for setting the apex. They’re very flat, they work the same way on any steel, and they’re really easy to take care of. Last a very long time too, I know someone who’s been using the same DMT Fine plate for just a bit under 20 years now.

I *know* this is the final stone anyone really needs (you don’t even really need this much)…but the xx-fine is my favorite diamond plate, period. I know that an 8000 grit plate is ridiculous and nobody needs one, ever. But just a few light passes after my fine plate and it speeds the entire process up incredibly. I think what’s happening is that it’s oblitering any remaining burr from 1200 while adding basically nothing in that dept…so by the time you strop, it’s just “SHHHINGGGG” almost immediately. I don’t do it on every knife…cardboard knives suffer from such treatment. But my general, “do it all” pocket knives seem like they really benefit.

I tried the eef dmt and didn't care for it. And it's to much of a grit jump for me. You don't get a truly refined edge. A strip would do just as good if your gonna go that route

Silverline is not the best compound you can get. Although it will work ok. But you won't get optimal performance. Because : It's a polishing and buffing compound. It has more wax than effective compound. Reason being it the waxes have binders in it to hold it to wheels for high speed so it don't sling it off. Now... If you get some true strop compound like pasta goi it will have 100% compound. And yeild better results. For M390 you need good stuff or the steel won't be brought to full potential. And a much finer stone than the dmt ef. It's a rabbit hole man. I assure you.

I know i have asked this before, but since i have asked have you purchased any more dmt plates. I hope the QC has gotten better. I bought a xxc for lapping waterstones and it was consistent, now i need a fine. I like to stop at 600, prior to translucent or ceramic. Gives a balance of keeness, and bitey edge.
