Steve lied, I always ask him in public, "if you could be any animal what would you be and why?" Never trust an author, they are professional liars. As ever this was a wonderful video and I hope that you and Lana have a wonderful week.

I’m not a KZread commenter, but I just have to say this book club and book series are giving me so much joy! I’d started Gardens of the Moon twice and just never made it far enough to get hooked. I am so glad I reconsidered my poor life choices and finished the first two books thanks to this book club. I am 100% in for the full series. Thank you!

I had wondered if he had played Rolemaster. The magic system has a lot of RM vibes with the realms as warrens. And spell failure, those crit tables are awesome. But Mr Erickson is always a fun chat.

Mr. Erikson's craftsmanship and passion for storytelling seeps out of every page he's ever written. And I'm just proud of myself for not listening to what people on the Internets said about the books, and just went for it. That was 3 years ago, and there isnt a day i dont think about something Malazan, and im a finishing 5th novel of Malazan empire now (that Cam"s entries into this world) and i dont plan on stopping until ive reread everything again. So yeah, complete Malazan takover.

Definitely one of the best Erikson interviews that I have watched. You are the first ones to get so much out of him regarding the gaming aspects, and it was so fascinating. The best thing is when Erikson said that in one of the rigid gaming sessions where they were invited, Esslemont created a thief character who is tall, bulky and rampages through his path in the name of stealth; that is LITERALLY a character in his 3rd book Stonewielder which I am reading right now, and one of the best characters in that book. I was so overjoyed to know the creation of that character. Can't wait for your MOI episodes.

Great interview, touched on a lot of things I've never seen Mr Erikson be asked before. He seems like such an interesting person and just getting to talk to him must have been a joy.

Wow, everything I hoped for. I've seen DOZENS of Steve interviews and I just knew you'd get a particularly good one out of him, and you did. Thank you both as always for being you, for coming at the Malazan world with the right/best attitude, and for this wonderful interview! Steve is brilliant, kind, and *thoughtful*. One of the things I respect most about him is that he never tosses off an answer without giving the question its due. So not only do you feel respected, but you get amazing answers. You both did a great job diving into both gaming and writing and it was just great. And Jeff I'm not surprised you were blown away by the MoI prologue -- it's frequently cited as the best in the series, along with the book itself being frequently called the best. But even for people who don't have the book as their favorite, I bet they love the prologue. It's just special. Can't wait for next week and your journey through a book that is, I think, somehow better than the first 2!!!

I was wondering how you would handle the intro music. Somehow I can't picture Mr. Erikson doing a goofy wiggle-dance in his chair while it plays. Anyway you did a great job with the interview!

Hahahah DAMN YOU RECORDING SOFTWARE! That is just so funny Jeff is like "Steven just spoke the most amazing words ever i hope that was recorded" ...savage! 😂😂😂 What a great interview. I cant wait to start watching the MoI videos, im halfway through the novel and im gunna try to keep pace with you guys but I typically read 2-4 chapters per day not per week 😅 I'll try and read other stuff between and see how it goes for MoI. Thank you Mr. erikson for the lovely interview. You are awesome 🎉

For Hoods withered balls sake Lana and Steve, a animated malazan series needs to happen. It’s the perfect visual medium in my opinion which is most undoubtedly worthless. However it would be sweet…ps you three are awesome. Keep it up, animated series or not

I have to wonder if a certain character from Stonewielder is based on Cam's Rolemaster character there. Definitely one of my all-time favorite characters in the series! Also very cool to learn that Steve played Rolemaster. It's definitely an interesting game, and, like pretty much every good game back from those days, it recently got a re-release. I've always wondered if Steve played RuneQuest at all, which is my favorite game of that era (and Mythras, or RuneQuest 6th ed. is my current favorite TTRPG, the Mythic Earth series is wonderful, as is Lyonesse). The RuneQuest world had a lot of extremely cool and interesting ideas about gods and cultures, and their multi-faceted natures and worship. I've realized it's a very good thing Steve and Cam started with AD&D, as some of the other games' settings may have been pleasing enough to where Malazan was never created. Still waiting on that Malazan TTRPG source book. Goodman Games put out some fantastic Lankhmar adventures for Dungeon Crawl Classics, and I need that for Malazan.
