🇩🇯 Djibouti seizes control of Dubai-run Doraleh port

The government of Djibouti has seized control of the Doraleh Container Terminal operated by United Arab Emirates-based DP World, saying that the contract between the two parties was damaging the sovereignty of Djibouti.
DP World - the world's fourth largest port operator - is now launching a case in the International Court of Arbitration, seeking damages.
Al Jazeera's Mohamed Vall reports.

There was a heated meeting in Dubai in mid-February between Emirati and Djiboutian officials where Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, the chairman of DP World, said something to the effect that the UAE would "send Djibouti back" to the conditions in which it existed before 2005. You could see the natural behaviour of the DP World, they are just angry because now there is two newports there is a new railway that links Addis Ababa and a road that connects will link the northern regions of Ethiopia. Vive Djibouti

That's why they are in your country Somalia. They want to destroy you, so they keep it underdeveloped as it maybe competition for their own ports.

In my country 67% is the government of Djibouti 33% is DP World shareholder DP World was going to sell their share but they refuse to sell it back to Djibouti. Other countries need to recheck their contracts before signing it like the one in Berbera.

Incredible that there would be a clause to limit port expansion, who would sign that. If I offered a concession for a port I would ask the concessionary to build MORE infrastructure that ends up being mine at the end of the concession. There must have been bribes involved.

I am Somali Canadian, and I swear in God, I want Tel Aviv to replace Dubai in any means. I really do not like Somali governments to have any close relationships with the Arab world except Qatar and Sudan. All the Arab countries were happy when Somali government was collapsing. Arab countries have come back to Somalia when Turkey has showed the world how Somalia can be great again. Emirates know that their oil business is dying out soon so the only place that they will get money will be from their ports. Horn of Africa ports are replacing the Emirates ports. The Emirate's new policy is to stop Horn of Africa's ports which are becoming the new gates of Africa. Somalia is one of the Arab league and do you know what the Arabs were doing when Somalia was suffering? They were deporting Somali people from their countries. Egypt is crying out now because of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam. The question is, do we really care? No, we do not care! Because they ignored us when we were suffering. We need to care about the Ethiopia's peace now, because the new Somali ports such as Djibouti and Somalia will be its ports and gates. I do really appreciate the new path that Qatari government took. Their is no question that the Somali ports will replace the Emirates ports.

I am here to congratulate Djibouti gov and people for doing what's right for their nation. UAE can go burry their heads in the sand. sovereignty of nations is a red line. Perhaps this should be a friendly reminder for them.

As Djiboutian I am supporting the decision taken by our government to terminate the contract with this company.Dp world has been operation in Doraleh Container Terminal since 2009 until 2018 and yet the volume of the terminal did not reach even 1MTEU.they did not have a real strategy to make our port a real Hub .
