    Great review! I didn't know that it had the ability to screen cast-- no one else had mentioned that in a review. That's handy when you don't want to be tethered over HDMI. But I will probably be using the HDMI output when a producer/ director needs to view now, since I'll have the option now. DJI finally has it in stock. My phone was overheating on my last job, and I've been needing this. I totally would have used your link to support you, but I went ahead and bought it while I had your video paused at the beginning. Thanks for the hard work you put into this thorough review!!

    I got this, and was so excited! Then I turned it on... It worked fine, except the video feed is grey. After rebooting several times, it started working, but started grey screening intermittently. After 2 hours chatting with customer support, I have to send it and the Mavic 2 Pro back to be diagnosed... The short time I had it, I loved it! And know I'll enjoy it when I get it back. In the mean time, I'll just have to keep watching videos like this, LOL!

    I have a question:) You know the files (photos and videos) stored on the SD card inside the Smart Controller. Is it right they are ONLY for viewing on the SC and they can't be loaded onto a computer? ie they are sort of 'image' files and the 'real' files have to been taken off the Drones SD. Thanks in advance.

    Setting the "Return to Home" point with the DJI Smart controller is restricted to the launch point only. Which is a huge problem if you want to launch your drone from, say, a moving boat! I can't understand why DJI left this feature off. I often set my RTH point to the actual hand set because it allows me to move location and still bring my drone back to me.

    Looks like a great controller. Love that a a Mavic 2 Zoom! Hey, you said the brightness was too much whilst flying at night then later you indicated that the screen brightness can be turned down and adjusted. Is it just so bright even when at its lowest setting? Rather too bright than not enough.

  • @Karlo_m

    @Karlo_m

    No, I said that the LCD screen from the original controller that comes with the Mavic is too bright at night. The Smart Controller can be turned down a lot so it doesn’t bother the eyes at all! I unfortunately didn’t get a chance to film the comparison at night. The screen from the Smart Controller can get really bright at day (like in the video) and really dim at night! Would be nice to know if the two threaded holes on the bottom edge can be used to connect the controller to a camera neck strap, that way if you need to do something such as take a call you can lower the controller while attached to the neck strap instead of placing the controller on the ground, also this would reduce the chance that you drop the controller and damage it.

    I understand where you're coming from, but there's always a trade-off between the screen size and brightness. For me, this size worked great. You also have to keep in mind that it's still a controller, meaning, you need to be able to easily hold it in your hands. Bigger screen would probably make that a bit harder.

    Hope I didn’t come off as a know it all, I didnt realize you were not in the U.S. Here in the U.S. the FAA is pretty strict, if you fly commercially you have to have a part 107 pilots license and legal flying time starts at 30 min before sunrise and ends at 30 min after sunset. But even then the light is low enough that the screen is too bright so I run my screen brightness at 40%

    I'm not bashing you because I saw your response.....but I feel like there needs to be a corollary to Godwin's Law relating to any KZread video, forum post, comment or Tweet relating to drone related matter before someone mentions FAA laws (right or wrong). I don't think I can find a single example of a long thread or comment chain without someone mentioning a rule or law. It is totally bizarre behavior to me.

  • @Danny_Harris-Arts

    @Danny_Harris-Arts

    4 жыл бұрын

    Parker Harrington it may be bizarre to you but that’s on you. but it’s called education on the law that in some cases people are ignorant of. In this case in this guys country it’s not illegal to fly at night in my country it is. without a specific waver from the FAA which unless you are law enforcement doing search and rescue or pursuit of criminal activities is next to impossible to get. I make my living flying drones, I am FAA licensed and certified and it galls me when I see people on KZread breaking the laws. Some people honestly don’t know the laws some do and still ignore them. The general Public perception on drones is low at best due to rude and careless unlicensed done use and on more occasions than I care to think about I have had to deal with some John Q. Public that comes up to me cussing me out telling me I’m not allowed to fly where I am and wasting my time by calling the police when I am not breaking any laws. So when ever I see someone on KZread that’s not following the laws, rules and regulations and even putting the public in danger I will call them out.

  • @ParkerHarrington

    @ParkerHarrington

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@Danny_Harris-Arts I am "FAA licensed" and "certified" too. I also fly for a living. I understand some people are ignorant of laws. But the point is, REGARDLESS of content, regardless of ANYTHING, if you want long enough on a comment thread, like Godwin's Law and Hitler, there will always be a comment about an FAA rule or regulation. It is great that a lot of people help police others and educate them, but it baffles me that literally every thread/post/video about drones anywhere in the world, and there is often an FAA comment. That's all.

    Hey all, I want to see what you think of this discovery of mine regarding the Smart Controller. After a couple days reading I know why “Google” ain’t on it. I hope Dji don’t get mad because these Mavic 2’s are a great product. I don’t hear to much bad things about them. At this point in time, there is some business BS goin’ down, even involving governments. My view about that is all a bunch of horse hockey! Prior to all this import molarkey Dji was happy, and the Smart Controller was released. Enter 2019 and everyone is pointing fingers. Seems the Smart Controller carries chips Google don’t like. Rooting, and bootloader unlocking won’t work, unless you have other reasons. It’s at the hardware level it seems. None the less these chips are some of the best China makes. Just unpopular in the US amongst corporations. It’s not illegal to own or even buy products of companies haggling it out with the US. Companies like Google are US based. China kicked out Google, so Google won’t go on our Smart Controllers. But Opera will!! Opera is fast!! The Huawei App Gallery installs and there are a lot of Drone flight sims!! There isn’t any drone apps like Kittyhawk, or Air Map, though our Canadian friends uses actual paper pilot maps with their commercial drone licenses. Yea you can get Google at Amazon App store, just ain’t the same. So China and Google are still mad at each other. In the meantime we have drones, some of us want the apps we use on our Google happy devices. Which opens up a realm of opportunity for app writers and creators for another platform of Android. Hopefully won’t be too long now. Sorry if I crossed any lines Dji. You have a great product, and we spent a lot of cash on these drone outfits to prove it. C’mon computer geek/ drone pilots, get ta workin’ please. Isn’t that the how and why Linux got started? Besides the US never said they could not support their products in this ban. However Chinese companies might not be able to say anything either. $3k ain’t crap to Google, but it is to me, as it is you all who made the investment. If I can’t have Google, I have to find something. Wasn’t easy convincing her to let me part with $700 for a fancy controller. I had to show her how fancy it is too. Though I see a huge potential in the Smart Controller, for UAV Pilots, and Android app developers. Gotta git that Sony PSVR series 2 to work with the controller!!! Could be a way to get the kids outside more. I miss my tv remote and couch too. Could be a win win for parents! “A drone and a PSVR, Only on Dji!! Fly responsibly...”

    I like all the information you share but you read it like an elementary student.

    you assume everybody is already an expert with the old controller. This is useless to me.

    Booo, you really think this is a "in-depth" review? No cons only pros?😂

    There are literally no cons. The controller does exactly the thing it’s supposed to do. The only con could be the price, although in my opinion it’s worth the price. And the review is much more in-depth than some other reviews you can find on youtube, published by much bigger channels than me.

    @@MicmiC901 That video is from January. Apparently they've made a lot of improvements to the firmware since then. I just received mine and I'm hoping it all works great. Came back here for a reminder of the screen cast location in the menu and just wanted to note that since I saw this comment, in case it helps, Michael.
