DJI Smart Controller - Unboxing, Setup, Detailed Review (2019)

Ғылым және технология

DJI Smart Controller Pricing & Specs:
amzn.to/3hXIr3g
DJI Mavic Air 2: w/Smart Controller:
amzn.to/3yJqZoW
The DJI Smart Controller has arrived and it is impressive! It is specifically designed to work with OcuSync 2.0 and has a 5.5 inch 1080p display that works in bright sunlight and extreme conditions. We tested it in cold weather and bright sunlight. We also compared it to the original Mavic 2, Mavic Pro (using iPhone 10) and Phantom 4 Pro+ remote controls to see how it stacks up! While it is not essential to have a Smart Controller to fly your Mavic 2 series drones, it really is a big step up for professional pilots, videographers and photographers.
Because it is compatible with OcuSync 2.0, the DJI Smart Controller is also designed to support more DJI aircraft models in the future. I know it’s a luxury, but now that I’ve flown with the DJI Smart Controller, I’m not sure I can ever go back to my original Mavic 2 controller with my phone.

A very nice review of the new DJI Smart Controller, Kelly. It looks like the new controller come's with all the input and accessories that are on the original CrystalSky Monitor. Yup, it seems like you need to update you micro SD Card to a 100mb speed card. Your first test of the unit looks very smooth and clean, and you need a microfiber cloth to keep the screen clean from fingerprinters, LOL! Thanks to you and Phillip for the onsite testing, take care!

Received the new dji controller on Thursday...I gotta say it's pretty sweet. The video connection is very strong and the display at 1080P is super bright. Can't tell you the number of times I cursed the blinding sunlight which ended my flight as I could not see my screen. Also, not having to connect wires, use my phone/iPad or a sun hood is priceless!

This thing saves me a lot of time on setup. It’s expensive but so is my time. (Most recent software) I use the smart controller for 4 different drones, makes things a lot simpler. 4 drones: M2P, M2Z, Enterprise, Dual (commercial use). After initially linking all my aircraft , they’re listed in Aircraft Management menu. Just open the menu and select the drone. After that one lands I can then select another drone and I’m good to go. This setup is great for commercial jobs that require multiple drones.

Loved your review of the new DJI smart controller. Since I only have a Mavic pro and not the Mavic pro two it won’t do me any good to have one. But I’m glad there’s now a choice even though the controller is 650 bucks, wow. But for what it’s used for I can understand. I also love that you’re using a osmo pocket to record your settings and stuff on the controller. Neat, I love mine too.

Thanks for another informative, fun, well done review. I love the convenience of this vs putting on another phone or iPad screen. Man, I hate the price on it, but I suppose it's mainly because of the really good screen. I'm just wondering if you might ever want to put a hood on it, even though the screen is so nice and bright? Wondering if they even make a good hood that fits it well? I know I'm kind of picking at straws here. It looks like a great, ready to go well made nice and bright controller. Thanks again for the review. Marc.

I have the Ultra Bright Crystal Sky monitor for my Mavic Pro. Definitely a must for sunny days. Anything on battery life? Or will that come in a future video? DJI makes great stuff but I wish they built more backward and lateral compatibility with their controllers. At least they give you the option to select the new Mavic 2 with the smart controller at a discount.

8:19 Now fly very low... so you can use the drone to mow the lawn 😆 Nice video. I worked with the smart controller before. I loved it. And this afternoon I expect my own. Can't wait. Too bad it is too rainy today. I would have loved to get out and do some flying. One question: I do have some waypoints stored on the iPad I used before. Is there a way to copy them over to the smart controller?

The sticks on the back of the drone are the ones your meant to use... The slots to put them in is there so if you need to pack it into a bag you can put the sticks away so they won't get snapped, also you need a SanDisk extreme pro card, cool that the controller tells you it's to slow though!

Fantastic review Kelly, one thing I didn't see you mention is the "touch screen gimbal control" where you can tap + hold on the screen and move the camera. Did you happen to notice if it has that feature? Though I'm willing to bet it does because it's part of the app. It would be nice to know for sure.

Can you use it with the DJI spark???? And I just found your channel and am so glad that i did! I am searching spark drones and a remote with a screen and the new DJI remote with screen videos keeps coming up, hence finding your channel 👍💯😀 And now i finding you and seeing what your channel is about I wanted to ask you what you think a good DJI "Starter" drone (or any other drone company) would be??? I really love the SPARK by DJI ...well actually I want the Phantom IV and the Mavic pro 2 (My favorite one so far) but for pricing and bc i need the DJI ronin s gimball and also the goPro hero 7 w/accessories so i have to choose which i need first and which one i need now. We need to up our 'production' seriously badly, so we are purchasing a couple of our 'must have's' = drone + goPro (bundle) so my question is Should we get the Spark or is their another one you would suggest? And if so getting the Spark, then does this remote work with the Spark??? Thank you and sorry for such a loong explanation + Question...lol

Looks like DJI has caught up with the transmitter for the two-year-old Hubsan H501s. But the Hubsan transmitter included a GPS drone with brushless motors and camera for a small fraction of the price of this new DJI wonder. And, the Hubsan controller included a sun shade. So, the question is whether the DJI is worth nearly ten times more.

I'm seeing reviews on this but no one is um, flying with it. I think a decent flight at some distance would be in order too.

What would have been nice is a ring to allow you to attach a neck lanyard like most of the radio-controlled model transmitters have.
