I love your videos I'm in U.S. but still great!! Anyways, I was wondering if you can tell me what the little hour looking glass thing is next the RC antenna on top right of screen cause it tends to be red a lot!! I'd like to know what it means thank you!!

Here is something you don't know. The right scroll wheel can be assigned various functions. Mine came set up with focal length chosen. No one on KZread and DJI tech support could tell me how to choose zooming as the choice. At first I thought it could be done but, stumbled into figuring it out. There are around six choices for the right scroll wheel to control.

Mine came with zoom as the default. I would love to change it to a manual focus wheel (as the on-screen slider is awkward for left-handers) but I don't think that's possible.

Actually we do know that, you just have to set it the way you like, plenty of customization.

So far I managed to boot into dji rc recovery. No one have done this before. This is my project and involves a lot of custom programming. Once I move step further I will be able to extract factory image and then sky is the limit. I could use some help if anyone is familiar with Linux android programming. Once we boot into factory mode we will be able to make dji rc more usable. Add more apps to it and possibly change some off fly app factory settings....

@@BlairAir What's the issue, RAM or storage space? I don't think programs like Litchi take up that much space, and what if you got it to force close the DJI Fly app while using an alternative flight program? What about using a small external drive connected via USB? I'm not a computer expert, but I would love to be able to run Litchi when the Mini 3 Pro SDK comes out, and not have to buy a separate controller if possible.

@@BlairAir Like I said, I'm not a computer person, I have no idea how to try any of these things. I'm a project manager, it's my job to think of possible solutions to problems, but I leave it up to engineers to actually implement those solutions.

Good sharing. Instead of slide out or flip out screen, I prefer to have a screen protector cover that flip up as sun shine shade.

Yes, indeed, it is indeed lagging, and I am glad that you mention that clearly enough! It is annoying when you come from a decent phone, where a tab immediately turns into a reaction. I assume it is due to the hardware (slow processor, poor touch screen). A comparison of the RC with the RC Pro in this regard would be interesting! - Great review! Didn't know about the transfer to an external file.

It’s a good controller, no doubt about that. I really enjoy flying with it. As far as lagging is concerned, none of these smart controllers are going to be as fast as using a smart phone such as a late model iPhone. Great video, and thanks for sharing.

That’s true Ronald, but with each update it will fill up and go slower, at times its “im just gonna go home”. But i ordered a new one after publishing this just to see if there’s a difference and return it if not. I remember back in Hawaii and this summer, smooth as butter. Not anymore

I agree with you about the slow response time on the RC Controller. I'm not sure what causes it and how it could be fixed but hopefully it can be fixed in a firmware update

Hello great video .. quick question, I will be taking to another country and won’t have cell service.. if i follow my car with active track and then I want the drone to return to the new location can it be done without cell service, I have mini pro 3 and RC controller.. thanks

You can update your home location at any time on the controller, and it doesn't require cell coverage. It's probably a good idea to do this regularly if you're moving so you don't need to take a trip back to your original location if something goes wrong :)

Great tip at the time 08:25 and on. Why do You need to present in sports mode? You consider it as an unknown feature so it 's new to many of us.

Hello, very good video as always, I am interested in buying this control for a mavic air 2s, do you still have lag problems? are they very common? I don't want to continue occupying my cell phone to be able to operate the drone.

I have lag every day, not during flights tho, but going through settings. I still recommend it as you put your settings now and then, and if you fly with auto settings, you barely change them.

I just bought the controller. For some reason it likes to disconnect from my hotspot just as the drone is about to take off. Typically I would create a hotspot before flying so I could get live maps vs as you’ve shown in your video where you can pre-download them. Is there a way to stop it from auto disabling wifi and Bluetooth? It says it does this to minimize interference. Yes, my remote screen can be slow as well. Great video.

Thanks for a really useful video. 😃. I have found the screen on the RC controller to be NOT sufficiently bright for use in full sunlight. Others may find that it’s ok, but I have to move into the shade, or perhaps carry an umbrella, to make my own shade.

I have the same issue... I find myself constantly turning my back to the sun so I can see the screen, even with it set to full brightness.

I have the RC Pro and I have never experienced lag. I feel the RC Pro controller is the best controller DJI makes to date. Pretty interesting with connecting your SSD drive to the remote. I wonder if that works with the RC Pro. I’ll have to see.

Thanks, Rob for sharing it. Yes, the DJIRC touchscreen is indeed lagging, and difficult to marquee/select the subject. I realize that the Screen Recording is recorded on H265 format which may not playback on some devices. May I know whether it can be set to record in H264 compression format?

I have a friend that has the Rc pro and he told me that my Controller doesn’t have external antennas that’s why I’m having issues with it. I really don't think it is because of the internal antennas. Turn on the controller and drone, on the controller go to connection guide on the screen (bottom right) then swipe to mavic 3 and select it

@@RobHK I’ve tried this, when I enter connection guide it only shows the mini 3pro on the screen, when I try to pair it by pressing the Mavic battery button for 4 sec putting the drone into pairing mode and then pressing pair on the controller, the attempt simply runs its sixty seconds and then tells me pairing unsuccessful. It appears that the controller doesn’t recognise any other drone apart from the mini 3pro it came with. I’m a bit afraid to remove the device from the account, but I’m stumped as to why my RC controller doesn’t offer the choice of drones to pair with as you suggest it should do. 🤔 I’m not appearing to have any network connection to my RC controller, as when I try to get online support it just gives me the check network/retry brick wall. I suppose I need to figure out how to connect the RC controller to the network, but that’s not too clear how to do, when the only button available to tap is ‘Retry’? My drone is a Mavic 3, I have dji fly app on my iPhone 11 plus, and of course I have connection with my phone to my WiFi in the house where I’m trying to connect to the RC controller 🤔

My RC doesn't lag so far but I use it for couple of weeks only. I hope it's not going to change later on.

What I would like to know is, can the drone be set up to record as soon as it is powered up? I had a nice shot of a freight train going north in the late afternoon in Tasmania, it looked good on the controller going diagonally from top right to bottom left and then I realized I hadn't pushed the record button. I'm sure that I wasn't the first to do this or probably not the last. Help please, Anthony

Thanks for this info and for all your informative videos. I know this is unrelated to the content in this video but I need help. Do you have any idea what causes the GO FLY screen (The one with the picture of the drone on it with a blue GO FLY button on the bottom right of the screen) to pop up during flight? Sometimes this happens at a critical moment and it covers the entire screen so I'm flying completely blind while this screen is up. Is there a setting somewhere that turns this off. This screen usually pops up once or twice during a flight. I hit the Go Fly button and it does turn the screen off, but it takes several seconds so during those several seconds, I'm completely blind. Another great video and some good advice 👍 I too have gotten frustrated with the lag on the screen at times. Sometimes I go to change something and it doesn't respond so I go to press it again but the screen finally changes but it registers a different setting I didn't intend to make. Which can be frustrating at times when especially trying to capture something quickly.

I love this controller but one thing that is bad is the video cache footage is only 480p which is rubbish. 720p which you get on a phone connected to an RC-N1 is far more usable if you’ve forgotten an SD card for your drone.

I haven't bought my Mini 3 Pro yet (well I did, it was stolen before I ever used it, I haven't bought it's replacement yet) but doesn't the cached footage have all the data, charts, and maps recorded onto it? Or is there a way to record a clean cached file? If you can record a cached video without the onscreen data and items, that might push me into getting the RC-N1 version this time. But also, why only 720p? My phone screen records at 1080p, and that's what the drone transmits. So why is 720p the max?

Any comments on using this with Mini 2?

I really want to buy the dji rc cause I have the rc n1 and my phone isn't compatible with the fly app so it lags a lot

And how share the screen in TV?

one correction: O2 can transmit 1080p at 30fps, at least on mavic 2 pro. i use it all the time, without problems.

Yes, but limitations are only set by DJI. O2 doesn’t necessarily mean 1080p. Specs are all on DJIs webby

Thank you for that report. The thing I really HATE is not being able to see a phone screen in direct sunlight. The DJI RC gets generally good reviews in this area, but a few KZreadrs report the screen is visible but not great in direct sunlight. Your video is the first review I have heard about the screen lagging. With these two potential problems, I think it might be good to bite the bullet and purchase the DJI RC Pro.

I've just ordered an RC pro, excited to get it, my only concern is how big it is since i have small hands. 700 nits definitely not bright enough in direct sunlight, you could clearly see how dark the screen was when he was on the boat, i had an iPhone 13 with a peak brightness of 800 nits and that wasn't bright enough in direct sunlight when I flew, no disrespect to you Rob, but idk if you were being completely honest?

Feel is not cheap at all, it looks and feels amazingly built. The drone mini 3 pro feels super cheap on the other hand.

Great review ! However...some very annoying issues: 1. There is no "video enhancement" ( some kind of LUT ) when using D-cinelike mode, ( like in DJI Go4 ), which means on the display everything is dull and grey ( as a D-cinelike video should be, but it makes way harder the make good compositions since we cannot see the contrast, the shadows etc...) . 2. The DJI RC doesn't play back the D-cinelike format clips ! So after flying, when I want to check my footage , taking the memory card out of my drone, putting into the DJI RC, it shows ERROR when playing its own file ! The old DJI Smart controller plays back the same clips with no issue. Is it possible to request for an update ? AFAIK the video enhancement request has been on forums for a year now, and no update solved it so far....

When you're using D-Log there is an option "Color Display Assist" you can use so the footage is displayed in more natural colors in real time...

Got a low battery warning. 🔋❌🆘 The screen of my DJ Mavic mini 3 Pro 🚁 lagged and I pressed to return it to its home location.💡 but everything hung up and the drone went down for landing in an ice bank 🙈🌎🌫❄️ in Iceland. 🇮🇸 Incredibly bittern with suspension on the control when it results in the loss of the drone. So yes lag I have experienced😅 and I think the sweep on the controller is seriously bad ⚠️ Thanks for a great video👍🏻🎥

Biggest downside for me is that the RC controller only plays videos up to 1080p. Youre not able to watch downloaded fullsize drone fotage.

It doesn't feel cheap it a well-made Controller Imo.

You can also use a USBC-Microsd adaptor and play the 4k recorded video files directly from the ejected drone microSD on your screen without needing any downloading. And even your Gopro videos play beautifully. Can also use the RC as your storage for all your videos while in holidays by having a micro SD card in the RC. You can then transfer gopro and phone videos and drone videos all into one location by using the microsd adaptor and transfer to the built in microsd. No need for a laptop!

Im not sure what your norms are but the plastic the controler is made of is sturdy and it actually does NOT feel cheap at all... If the plastic structure looks cheep to you thats really odd..

But the RC *doesn't* do everything I want it to. Example: if I'm shooting video AND have focus peaking turned on AND want to make a screen recording, the screen recording stutters from start to finish. DJI tell me that's because the processor isn't powerful enough to do all three things at once and I should get the RC Pro for that. But there's no warning in the manual about this and it's shoddy design. I wasn't using any of the other functions such as histogram, zebra stripes, etc and it's maybe possible that the lag when switching into settings can be reduced if you turn off other processes. It's also possible that the standard controller doesn't suffer in the same way since a) the display resolution is lower and b) it piggybacks on the processor in your phone, but I haven't tested it.

Every time I fly, I can't see where I am. The map always shows Africa.

Biggest problem with the DJI RC is the next to no miminal written instruction that comes with it. Basic thing like using the zoom. Tech guys I bought mine off just said use use RHS wheel ........ but they do not mention this is just one of that wheels fuctions & it has to be programed for that use first. There are a 100 things like this to look out for with no writen instruction on the RC....... so one must watch hundreds of Y tube videos to get each function. The agents selling the drones do not all use same type of controlers for each drone which makes life more complex. Moral of all this can be the cost of learning to fly a DJI with a new RC can exceed the price of both the RC & the drone simply because DJI has not spent the single dollar for a print out of a basic quality instruction manual!
