O3 vs hero 6, which is better for indoor?

I would go for the O3, as the Hero 6 is pretty dated at this point and the all-in-one nature of the O3 is sooooooo much more convenient as far as checking exposure, etc...

Well unfortunately the hero 11 mini is all I have, I dont own any o3 units, not yet, so 11 mini for the win hahah! Although I love the video coming out of those o3 air units for sure! Would be nice to run my 5 inch 6s rigs WITHOUT an action cam!

The GOPro Mini is the best all around FPV action camera I think. I tried the Insta360 Go2 and it's a fun toy but the image quality sucks. I also run the Bones on lighter rigs where the weight of a full GoPro wouldn't work, and it does well, but the power cable is finicky and the 8:7 aspect ratio of the 11 is pure gold for vertical video or Reel Steady. Whenever you do upgrade to the O3's, it's pretty awesome to avoid the weight/hassle of running an external cam, but for the foreseeable future, the GoPro 11 definitely an edge in image quality. The difference is small in bright sunlight, much more significance in low low or shadows, where the O3 really struggles...

I knew which was which because of the Dji over sharpening. We can reduce that in advanced camera settings.

Good point Richard, I did have sharpening set to 0 in the Dji and low in the GoPro, but it still comes through, doesn't it? For me it's the color science that gives it away, the dcinelike profile of DJI drones has a distinct look, more true to life but a little cooler. The gopro is more pleasing to my eye, but it's not night and day...

@@MaxonFPV Thanks for that MaxFPV! I thought turning sharpening down to 0 was enough but I see that you're right, -2 is the way, and we can always add the digital sharpening back in Davinci Resolve in post if we want to 👍

I agree that the O3 looks great when you consider it's an integrated camera that you already have on your drone...

La go pro mini tiene mejor rango dinámico pero no veo una diferencia importante con la O3 Air unit, menos aún si se toma en cuenta la relación costo calidad, la Air unit es una excelente opción. A parte el video maravilloso, mágico, que Laguna es?

Gracias por el comentario amigo. Es en el cajas, la laguna es La Toreadora y el drone es el GEPRC MK5D. Tienes razón, el O3 tiene un imagen impresionante, sobre todo cuando hay un buen sol, pero sufra mucho cuando falta luz, y para mi el imagen es mejor un poco sobreexpuesto, es decir cuando normalmente utilizaría un ND16, resultaría mejor un ND8 y después agregando contraste en post. Pero tomando en cuanta el peso y costo que involucra un GoPro cuando el dron ya tiene el O3..... para mi el GP11 queda solamente para trabajos pagados y trabajos muy especiales.

Me jode decirlo pero se nota un mejor rango dinámico como dices en la Go Pro 11. Eso sí calidad-precio ni se le acerca a la DJI O3. Gran duelo.

@@J_46 Gracias amigo. Si, para la mayoría de los vuelos ya no necesito un GoPro, a menos que sea un trabajo pagado y importa esta pequeña ventaja en calidad. El O3 tiene la tremenda ventaja de ahorrar dinero, peso, y tiempo al evitar el GoPro.

what about your video size? i tried to fly O3 with 2.7K 4:3 ratio 60fps D-Cinelike, the file size was way bigger than gopro 11 in 5.3K 8:7 ratio 30fps 10bit in standart bitrate not high. very big diferent is "Dynamic Range", Gopro still better than O3.. very big diferent is "Dynamic Range", Gopro still better than O3..

Thanks for your feedback. I agree that the dynamic range of the DJI O3 is weak compared to GoPro. With perfect lighting conditions, you hardly notice, but in low light conditions, the difference can be quite noticeable...

@@colibrifpv yups agree.. in good lightning conditions and with use ND filter with level up O3 footage. i just use O3 btw, but i already try to use gopro 11 in one flight.. quality way higher but i'm very scared too cause i usualy flying my drone to the top of volcano's, i like doing long range flight 😅😁

That's my thinking too... the DJI O3 is not as good as the GoPro, but it really closes the gap between onboard DVR vs. external action cam and the advantages in terms of convenience, cost, and weight are huge...

@@colibrifpv totally! Not something I'd use in a cinematic mountain dive but it's deffenently useable to show some friends your clips or even so some biggenner level cinematic shots.

O3 has a Bigger sensor and worse performance? Doesn't make sense, getting both this weekend to test, but I think the digital sharpening out of camera is making all the o3 footage I've seen look garbage. Out of every test and comparison and just o3 footage in general that I've seen, there's this heavy digital sharpening that I believe is the entire cause of poor results. I'm pretty sure you can drop the sharpness in the menu, and that would produce more film-like results, we do that even in big expensive mirrorless cameras for video. Even adding anti-aliasing or desharpening in post might help, but I have high hopes that the o3 will come ahead if used correctly, manually, with completely dropped sharpness and saturation, d-cinelog, and graded after.

Sharpening was at "0" (default is "2") and I used D-cinelike and applied a basic color grade in Resolve.O3 footage is unusable otherwise. You might go with -1 or -2 sharpening and you can get as creative as you like in post but a modern GoPro ABSOLUTELY outperforms the DJI O3, although in good lightening conditions, the O3 can come close.

I understand, but sharpness is typically dropped into negatives. Like for sony alphas we drop it to -7 lol. It's digital sharpening for consumers, not for editors. Gopro realized this and created awesome color science and basic default settings that really pulll the cinematic vibe off. try it out, -2 sharpening, -2 noise reduction, same with saturation and then grade the O3 10-bit cinelike. I havent even gotten one though so I could be wrong and it's just a garbage camera. @@colibrifpv

I agree, when the sun is out or when there is at least decent lighting, the O3 captures an amazing image and not having to deal with the cost, weight, and hassle of a GoPro is a huge plus.

GoPro wins hands down, even though O3 does a good job

That's a pretty good assessment, the DJI is surprisingly good for what it is, but it's not quite as good as the best dedicated action camera. Also, this video was in ideal lighting, the difference is a bit more noticeable when lighting conditions are more challenging...

Really? In good lightening I don't think the difference is obvious, but in bad lightening. overcast weather, indoors, etc., the GoPro is obviously better...

that is not to say the dji o3 air unit isn't an amazing little camera and i've seen videos from it when i was amazed it isn't something heavier@@colibrifpv but in this particular comparison it's definitely obvious

so not point to buy any gopro ......03 is more than enough

For most people, and especially when there is ample natural lighting, yeah, the DJI O3 is enough. There IS a difference in image quality, but it's not huge, and it's really pros that need good results in different lighting conditions and plan to color grade who will really appreciate that small difference in image quality...

Yet another pointless video. Go and make a comparison in a dark environment. We all know the 03 is good in day light but we want to see a side by side comparison in low light conditions

I could do that, but it has already been shown that the O3 looks bad in low light, and the point of this video was to show that in the right conditions, and with the right settings, the O3 CAN look just as good as a GoPro 11. I thank you for the suggestion, and I will upload another video soon with similar tests in different lighting conditions.

@@XloMotion Low light can mean inside. So many have dome the comparison outside but no-one has inside. I bought one anyway and will find out for myself, but early indications are there is very little difference or benefit over the O3 indoors with candescent light
