I love my Mavic Air! Which Drone do you have and if you were to buy a new drone, which one would you get?

So I recently came into the whole drone game and in the last 2-3 months I ended up with 3 drones at one point. A Spark for $329, a Phantom 3 Standard for $199, and a Mavic Air for $399. The Phantom was my first pickup and I fell in love with the drone, very sturdy, takes a great shot and fantastic battery life, terrible portability though!. The Spark was my 2nd pickup, I loved how I could throw it in my lunch box and go. As well I found a mass of batteries at my local Target on clearance for $24.98 each (bought them all, sold the extra). And my most recent pickup as of this weekend is the Mavic Air in Onyx Black. I found it at Target and was instantly won over. Even better portability than the spark, with a battery life between the 2 drones, and 120fps 1080p I was super excited about. I immediately returned the Spark! It was a $70 difference between the 2 so it was a no brainer to get that money back. The Phantom I still love but no longer use, my friend is looking to upgrade from his non-DJI drone and I am letting him pick it up off of me for the same cost I paid for it. I must say though, my only complaint of the Mavic Air is the tone of the hum it runs at. It's loud and kind of an annoying pitch! It's like the Jim Carey of drones from that scene from Dumb and Dumber with the "most annoying sound in the world". Definitely gets more attention than the quieter Phantom and Spark! I have both the Phantom 3 se with the 4k camera & the Mavic Air also has the 4k camera. My question is: Overall which drone is better? I know they both have different features. How far will the Phantom 3 go & also the same with the Mavic Air?

yes it is, even with the Mavic Pro 2 out now, I still just love the size of the mavic air.

I sold my Phantom 3 Standard yesterday with Manfrotto D1 bag, that thing was huge. I hope I will be able to buy Air Fly More, if not I will get Spark Fly More. Btw nice video quality!

Great comparison thank you, please could i ask how the range compares, is the Mavic Air considerably better ranged in real life testing compared to the P3S, as i notice they both just use the 2.4Ghz system? Thank you.

cant really give you an answer to that (hopefully someone here can), but I have flown both between 1-2kms away from me and never lost connectivity with either. If I needed to fly further than that I would probably use the Litchi app so that I could setup waypoints and just let the software fly the drone for me.

I have had the Phantom 3 Advanced since they came out and really love it. It has all the range of the P4 and the only real difference is in the camera only having 1080 and 2.7K. Since I have no way to watch 4K on my computer or my TV I use 1080p most of the time which is much easier to deal with than the 4k for me. If I could upgrade it would be to a Mavic Pro. Does the Mavic Air have the precision landing feature? If so that is a big benefit over the P3 for sure. I wish I had the beautiful areas you have to fly in, I live in Kansas City Missouri. Fly & ride safe brother!

My biggest reason for getting the Mavic air wasn’t even the video quality but the portability. So nice to be able to throw this in my backpack! Other than that I find the video quality fairly close between the P3 and the Mavic Air.

Thank you for this insightful video! Out of curiosity, I have never controlled a camera drone before. Will the Mavic Air be user friendly when it comes to those who can't even fly a drone properly? Much obliged.

I think so. you still need to have good hand / eye coordination but having the Phantom was really my first 'real' drone and I found it fairly easy to fly. just put in some practice in an open area. I find the Mavic Air such a fun drone to fly and the portability is amazing.

Just one more question - is it advisable to purchase the Mavic Air with a pair of DJI Goggles? or simply, just the drone itself (alongside the Fly More Combo). For first timers.

I have never used goggles. And as a beginner I would think that you really want to be able to 'see' the drone, so that you can see where it is and what is around it. Once you get better at flying than maybe use goggles. But I wouldnt use them, but thats a personal thing.

I have had my air for about 4 months and it is a very good drone. The only drawback I can say is the WiFi connection (can be random at times). I use the parabolic range extenders, they help , but once your out past 2000 feet you could suffer signal lost. The best way I have found to fly is with a pair of the Epson bt300 glasses. The view is very clear without you needing to be isolated from your surroundings.

I found a sealed mavic air for 575 and a used phantom standard for 280 (usd)

Sites4sight Multimedia actually I have a 3 drones with a forth one coming. And moose meat is really gamey tasting. I’m not a fan. Except for moose jerky. That’s awesome.
