DJI MADE A E-BIKE - First Look Amflow PL Carbon / DJI Avinox EMTB motor

Спорт

Hey Riders, welcome back to Sam's Bikes. Today, we have an exciting update as I've just tested the new DJI Avinox Ebike motor on the brand new Amflow PL Carbon. In this video, we'll go over the bike's specs and then take it for a test ride.
Just to give you a quick rundown of the features of the brand new Amflow PL:
- It comes with Mullet wheels or is 29 compatible
- The full carbon frame weighs 2.27
- It has 160-150 in the rear which is a 4-bar and it's c-tuned with FOX
- It is powered by the new DJI Avinox e-bike motor
- It offers 120nm of torque and 1000 watts of peak power in Boost mode and 105nm and 850 watts of peak power in normal mode
- Available with either a 600 or 800wh battery
- It includes a 2” full-color OLED touchscreen integrated display
- It also comes with a wireless remote with all the expected functionalities
- Additionally, it has many more features and is tunable in the DJI Avinox App
- The motor weight is 2.52kg
- The total weight starts from 19.2kg
- Available in 4 sizes, with 2 models set to be released later this year. Pricing is not confirmed but should be starting around 5-6k.
We would like to thank our amazing sponsors, Schwalbe, Quad Lock, Crankbrothers, and Topeak, for making this possible. And we would like to express our gratitude to each and every rider for their support.

Good to have competition and this has obviously been put together by people that understand MTBs, not some hack. However, I don't think there's enough room for improvement in the 250W mid-motor only category for anything to be game changing. The Pinion MGU and possibly other motors with integrated transmissions are where it's at.

Get the price down and offer a 3 year warranty on the motor/battery and all electronics, make service guides and parts available and we may have a real winner here 😎

Holy crap that looks amazing on first impressions. I’m very keen on the Pinion MGU but this has come out of left field and seems really promising. The proportions of that frame make the motor look quite discrete for the rated power figures. Seemed very quiet. Can’t wait too see how it goes on steep climbs, consistency of power and how much if any thermo throttling you experience. Characteristics on technical and chunky terrain. Things like the overrun, how smooth/aggressive power coming.

Well you answered my questions of how much of that power is available in all assist modes and would it overheat . never the less , five thousand $/€ is a bargain for carbon and such a powerful motor . i've been a good boy and haven't ranted about the Sachs/BMZ for awhile but this video prompts me to chime in 😂 two of the amazing aspects about the BMZ is that ALL of the power (112 Nm) is available in all assist modes and at RPMs as low as 40 to 60. the other is it does NOT overheat . i've ridding the bike for five years now on some very long and steep hills in tour mode and it has never overheated . Sorry Sam , i just had to mention those things . Good video . lots of useful info . 👍

Drones and e-bikes? DJI looks like they're up to something big! Are they planning to dominate the airwaves and the roads? I can already see the aerial footage shot from the saddle of an electric bike! ‍♀ I wonder what else they'll come up with. they'll serve as GPS navigation, displaying the route on VR goggles? One thing's for sure: DJI never ceases to amaze us! I can't wait to see what they come up with next.

Very interesting. I’ve owned 5 DJI drones, currently have 3 with the DJI Avata 2 purchased a few weeks ago. I also own a 2019 Trek Powerfly FS 5, and a 2023 Giant Trance E+3. I may have to sell them all to afford a deposit for this bike - haha. Seriously though, I’m happy with what I have but this bike looks great. Except for the large controller on the right bar. I like my Giant minimalist controller.

Very nice review! Hopefully, DJI can put a rest to some of the 'safety' issues regarding e-bike batteries (ie. catching fire). All the bad press on e-bike batteries really causes some issues with rules/laws/regulations in specific areas or settings. They use what's called intelligent flight batteries on their drones.....I'm sure they're doing something similar in their e-bikes. Looks like a smart move for DJI entering this market. Thanks again for the review!

As an owner of both emtb's multiple, and DJI drones, I hope that their after sale support is better this time around ie 3 years in and you cant buy any mavic pro batteries, but in saying that I'd def be keen to grab another ebike for sure, this tech looks fantastic, and great to see that they havent gone with headtube routing thank god.. And DJI need this to get back into the US market once the US govt ban the drones...

Hi Sam, thanks! Awesome system indeed. I tried to search the IP rating but I was not able to find. I really hope that they have better IP rating than the other systems. It's always water and dirt which is going inside to motor. I really hope that this system has sufficient protection. The Achilles heel of electric bikes is IP rating to made too low.

It's really a beautiful bike and great integration, interested into the internals of the motor. EU laws won't allow it to sell with those specs, it will have to be factory detuned, unless the mentioned 1000 W of peak power is really just the power spikes(peaks), like in the 90s sound boxes had a rating of 500W in reality it was just about 100W or less. I can easily get my Syncdrive to peak of power in the realm of 900W+ so this not really a surprise. Also when you up the Tourqe the Power falls, so there are ups and downs with this. There is also the massively increased consumption if the motor is not a 48V system, the last point availability of service centers etc...IMO the most important thing when ebike buying. The 12A charger IMO as an electrical engineer is actually a safety concern, way to much heat into the small amount of cells.

This is great but i really wish they had done something like a belt drive and either the motor compensate for a lack of gear of a single speed or maybe something like only 2 gears directly integrated in the motor. Because the problem of the emtb is the costs on the long run that come with wear and tear that arise from having a chain and a cassette which wears out components

The obvious questions will be around build, reliability and the service network. The frame will be built by an OEM in Taiwain or China, so there's no fear there. Reliability on a new motor will be hard to gauge, but time will tell and this leads in to the service network that (at the moment) is non-existant and will take time to grow. Groupset, suspension & other components will come from the usual suspects. Looks great though.... if only I hadn't just bought a Levo!

That thing is nearly silent. Wow. I'd love to hear it under load with a heavier rider and a steepish climb

Wish they would give me a bike cause I can test anything to failure. I've broke frame's, swingarms, seat posts, shocks 4 in one year, wheels, pedal arms, bent pedals, calipers, seats, discs, cassettes, derailleur's, bent specialized frames at rear shock mount. I ride 7 days a week and sometimes twice a day it's a pity my specialized didn't charge as fast as this bike cause I could ride more.

Anybody with some trail experience knows that 250w and a good balanced system is MORE than enough to do the job.

Not really. 90nm is enough and more is probably putting unneeded stress on the drive train. But current full fat bikes are 250w peaking up at 600w. My full fat Levo but 6kg lighter at my SL's weight is what is needed imo.

ANY of the existing manufactures could overcharge their motors to 1000w. They DON’T because BIG POWER = BIG BATTERY DRAIN.

Surely it's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it? You don't need to be boosting all the time. But the 800wh battery is top end energy density. The bike is pretty much SL light too. Best of both worlds?
