Having watched the channel rctestflight for several years, I was biased in favor of Alta. I have to admit, this video seemed fair.

Thank you so much for this comparison. What sold the Alta when it 1st came out was their ads. They had the best ads in our faces everyday.

one of the most thorough consumer views I have seen to date. Good job. In all honesty having used arri and red, they sre a pain in the arse and the whole industry will be heading the way of the Inspire 2. with the exception of 6 rotors for redundancy. camera guys like to geek about complex modular kit. but having experience with it I would plumb for a small light highly integrated solution every time as long as it gets the results, and they are now doing just that. Simply put, make my job easy!

Beautiful video but I already new outcome before I finished watching video and I really tempted to move towards professional drones even I own now Mavic 2 pro but if decide to make step forward I will go for M600 set. A quick idea that more batteries is better for the reason in case one ir two stops working it still can come back home safely. Great video, subscribed🙏🙏🙏

Great review and comparison. Could you give an estimate of the average flight time with the M600 with Ronin MX gimbal and a mid size mirrorless camera like the Sony A7+600g lens (1200g total), in cold temps at 0-5 degress Celcius? And same with X5R system. Really great work here, thanks!

Flying Movi on a drone with cinema cameras provides the footage quality that you can never see on DJI toys!

Well the X5S and X7S cameras on my DJI "TOY" equals that of an Alexa Mini with superior stabilization and control compared to the MOVI.

Easy there guys. DJI has majorly stepped up their game in recent years. Calling them toys is neither fair nor accurate. That said, saying the DJI cameras are equal to an Alexa is laughable. The X7 is great, but the Alexa is the industry standard in filmmaking. Specs don’t tell the whole story. Arri’s color science is the gold standard in digital film production, so let’s not get carried away with praising DJI’s offerings.

After using both systems in Iceland for about two years, I have to say I disagree with this evaluation. M600 has many pros regarding flight time and how easy it is to operate, but when it comes to wind, performance and flying big cameras, the Alta is far superior. The Ronin MX is very limited when it comes to large cameras, and I charging time and amount of batteries needed is a pain. Both gimbals work perfectly when properly balanced and tuned, although the freefly movi could use a stronger pan motor as it is relatively weak when flying fast with the camera pointed sideways.

Jon your comments are very suspect based on the fact that you say the Alta is good in the wind. If you watch both Part 1 and Part 2 you will see that I have documented how bad the Alta is in the Wind. The pressure sensor is not designed well and there's a lot of variation of up and down altitude change. I can understand your comments about the MOVI and I feel the MOVI has better choices of cameras and lens that overall are better than the Ronnin MX. But our wind test data is a pool from over 10 different ALTA owners and Freefly never did anything about it which is why you don't see them any longer in the drone market.

I'm not sure why a few people have had roll twitch problems with the Movi. It could be due to improper camera balance, a loose component, damaged or out of balance props or other reasons not due to design. My point being that operator error has caused these kinds of issues in most cases. This has also happened with the Ronin MX if you bother to do a quick google search. All this makes your comparison very questionable based on such a small isolated set of examples. I could not disagree with you more. Roll twitches are common with the MOVI in aerial applications. I had 2 different MOVI's that did exactly the same thing regardless of camera/lens combination and I am very metalicius about how I balance my gimbals. I can't speak for your experiences I can only account for mine and about 10 other professionals that also use and fly them that get EXACTLY the same results.

BTW: If you look in the Freefly forum you will see many examples of people experiencing the same roll twitch issues. Most are experienced professionals that know how to balance and tune the MOVI properly.

Just because you didn't experience issues with the Movi doesn't mean that there are none or that all issues are user error. And just because, as you claim, no one has used your money back guarantee doesn't mean that there are no issues. I have seen many people claiming that the ALTA/Movi are performing superb, but when they've posted their footage - the stabilization was really poor and disappointing (in line with or worse than what I was getting on custom X8/Movi) given the premium price of the setup. The buyer psychology comes into play here - people have spent as much money as for a car on their setups so it's sometimes hard for them to admit that the setup was not worth the money. The issue with Movi is that it performs poorly with light camera setups in aerial mode. DSLRs, GH5, Sony Alpha or BMPCC - I have never seen a good aerial footage from Movi using these cameras that wouldn't require stabilization in post. Most of the time the results have been really poor, especially when you factor in the $7k price of the M10 at some point. I have spent countless hours myself tweaking, balancing, changing basic and advanced settings and even adding a sh*t ton of weight to the camera cage, and this was a very frustrating and disappointing experience. Actually, adding weight was the single thing that gave best results (never perfect, though), and this is what leads to my conclusion that Movi can't handle light camera setups. While adding weight gave good results, you can see how ridiculous it is to add arbitrary weight to a weight-sensitive aerial setup when using the single most expensive aerial gimbal on the market. Now, I am not saying that the Movi is a bad product - it's great for handheld use and I'm sure that it's possible to get it to work properly with heavier setups like RED/Alexa Mini for aerial video. I'm curious to know how the new Movi Pro will perform for aerials, but given the disappointing experience that I've had with the M10 - I won't buy the Pro unless I see other people have outstanding results with it.

Great review, probably most comprehensive one of all review I have seen on youtube. BUT! We are talking about two drones captures images and the video comparison is at 4:45 I realised uploaded video is only 720 pixels :( Well say no more then.

At 7:26 it looks like the Matrice is carrying the D-RTK instead of the stock A3. Is that the flight controller that is on the Matrice for the entire test??

NO I tested both the matrice stock and also with D-RTK. The D-RTK made improvements in altitude hold and position hold but the stock Matrice is the best flying copter you can purchase. Flat out in my opinion.

I've got some visible vibrations coming from the arms of my M600 that are making their way down into the gimbal and camera making it hard to get smooth video. Is some amount of shake expected or is there a way to balance the propellers or motors?

What set up are you using? I'm flying a movi m15 with dsmc2 6k and pictor zoom 20-55. Completely smooth, even all the way zoomed in.

@@salsero2627 I was using a gremsy h16 with a backmagic 6k. The drone eventually fell out of the sky though so now I have to look into repairs.

Oh no, sorry to hear that, it wasn’t until recently that I used a MōVI gimbal. Now I see why they used to be so expensive. I also use mine on a black arm and hit speeds up to 80mph (behind the vehicle that is), it’s unbelievable. The MōVI m15 it’s the best and you can usually find one between 1k-1500. It works so well I bought a back up.

Many examples are exceptions and not the norm. My research would steer me to the M600 over the alta if the s1000 had to be replaced. Just a note...There are instances where the roll twitch intensifies the sense of action and movement with the movi.

Michael you are incorrect. No exceptions. I can give you 5 Freefly Alta users that also had the same exact results that ended up switching to the M600. These are long time Freefly customers like I was. Also simply put, the Movi is not designed to fly and always has small roll twitches in the air that you have to stabilize in post. I could give you many other examples from customers, these were just 2 examples and I did not want to make the video about the short comings of the Movi but they are significant in perspective of what you get with the Ronin MX.
