DJI Avata Review: The Most Fun I've Had Flying a Drone
Ғылым және технология
At $629 for the drone and $1,169 with controller and goggles, DJI's latest drone makes FPV flying more accessible than ever. And despite crashing it twice, I had an amazing time flying it.

Very excellent review and helpful information
I sure hope there is a "Find my drone" section of the app. Even more useful if it's a phone app, since I wouldn't want to be slogging cross-country on foot wearing an fpv headset.

Gonna buy one. I'm a normal DJI pilot, but I have the DJI FPV with the "old goggles" and a motion controller as well. But never had it in manual yet. So gonna buy just the drone to learn acro flying. But it isn't in shops before mid September. 😪

I'm an old FPV drone hobbyist and tired of futzing with soldering wires, Betaflight, monitoring lipos, and flying via fuzzy analog FPV. I still have a boring old Mavic pro, but I might just have to finally splurge on this prebuilt cinewhoop!

Man do I agree with you! There's such a learning curve to build your own FPV. I've been struggling for months with my GEPRC Crocodile Baby drone. DJI makes it so easy! It's not quite like the difference between Apple and Android, it's more like the difference between Apple and a pile of loose wires and circuit chips and a bulletin board that just says "FIGURE IT OUT!" "GET GUD!" lol
This will be my next new drone Going to purchase this holiday
does this have same sensors ect ... as mini 3? seems these features were exspected as afar back as mini 2 last year; however seemingly; contrary to popular belief ....will indeed run straight into the ground and its hyped ground sensors do not prohibit this from doing just that. what would be a middle ground of all 3?
Nice review
I had a tiny whoop and I now want this but I'm kinda sceptical about the controller
I am getting my DJI Avata Pro-view combo tomorrow!! It's Christmas!!
Maybe I missed it on the video, but I see that there is a price for just the drone and then the drone with the controller and goggles...so can you just buy the drone with a traditional controller. Also, it would be cool if they had a way to track the location of the drone if it goes down some distance away in brush, for example, or at least maybe a way to trigger a light or a beeping sound on the drone so that you can home in on where it's at if you didn't see its exact location when it crashes.
@SteevilKinevil
Жыл бұрын
Looks like it uses DJI’s GEO 2.0 geofencing system so the drone must know where it is, but I've not seen anything stating the pilot can track it if it goes down (in a similar manner to the Mavic). Would be useful to have a phone link so we can home in on it.

Great video 👍
Had the DJI FPV great bit of kit but a bit bulky to carry around and issue of having a spotter in the UK which I personally think is BS!🙄 in the end sold it and my mini 2 and got the Mavic 3! This does look good though as I miss the FPV perspective and fun!

Does anyone know the rules regarding these, with respect to the requirement to keep the drone in line of sight?
Good review.
Fpv drones look so fun. I wish they weren't so expensive 😢
This is a great idea.
Well sir, they said it is really difficult to find the parts when the drone went damage. Someone said it took almost a quater year to get back the drobe for repairing work caused the repairing and service center is abroad. I guess it is better for the company to think of option to setup a service center in a selected country. Think about the option of cheap labour cost, Malaysia is good to be the place to locate the Headquaters of DJi service center in south east asia.
Macallan 15, a man if taste. 👍
Integra or Goggles 2?? I’m about to make my purchase. Thx for your input on this
FPV has way better performance. I get 65mph in sport and 95mph in manual with master screw props. It is very fragile tho, one wreck and you may be getting a new drone. I’m impressed with the avatas ability to crash and fly. I’m on my 4th fpv from very minor crashes or hard landings. The sensors go bad and there is no fix. Buy the insurance for sure it’s saved me a bunch of cash and kept me flying.
Can you pair the headset to other drones?
Good video.. you sound like.... you were brought up ....watching ....Top... Gear
Does this fly somewhat like the dji fpv drone, for some reason I can fly that better than my envogue V2,,
Hi thanks for the review... i have seen somewhere that the avata had sensors toavoid hitting things...but i guess i saw wrong ? Any Dji drones with such features ?

Almost all dji drones have obstacle avoidance but the avata only has bottom and forward avoidance.
I just want to know how do you find it if you crash with goggles on, it's not like a regular drone that you have a general idea of were it went down.

There is video playback on the goggles too so can replay the moments before you went down along with the GPS. You should always know the proximate area where you are flying. FPV pilots normally just go off video playback and a beeper.

nice video i need one
Bugger! Just received the email on the Avata from DJI. Took a while to convince my wife of the essential requirement for the Mavic Pro (and VR headset!) a couple of years back. I can see that I need the Avata as an absolute requirement to function effectively in the modern world, but it's not going to be an easy sell. (the goggles ARE a lot cooler than the original VR though (for when she's standing next to me as spotter)) . . . . . . .

You keep calling the FPV as if it was a previous model of the same drone. But the reality is that the FPV is a different drone for a different market. The FPV is built for speed and manuervability. But the Avata is a Cinewoop style drone which has a different purpose. The FPV is still the current model of that drone and not being replaced by the Avata.

Those "covers" or "protectors" around the propellers are not primarily for protecting the propellers. That is what is called a "ducted propeller" design. Ducted propellers have certain aerodynamic advantages because of the way that they suck air through the "duct." Ducts can make a propeller more efficient which is good for drones to improve lift and extend flying time.
@danbrownellfuzzy3010
Жыл бұрын
Cant be too long before someone with a 3d printer makes a better or at least different guard.
@NoLongo
Жыл бұрын
These are not acting as full ducts. Maybe there is a slight efficiency gain at certain RPM but the main purpose is protection. Ducted fans are rarely used on drones because they have worse aerodynamics, are heavier, and have worse efficiency outside of a narrow RPM band. FPV drone flight is too dynamic to benefit from ducts.
@GabrielVelasco
Жыл бұрын
@@NoLongo Thank you for that explanation. There are a few MICRO drones that advertise themselves as having ducted fans, but you're saying makes sense. It might also be that with a very small drone the percentage of thickness of even these full guards is enough to make them essentially count as ducts? Thanks again for the explanation.

Im pretty certain they have user adjustable focus knobs for each eye so probably can wear them without glasses and get them in focus
I dont see what the point is of this drone when the Air 3 exists for (almost) the same price. And can also be used with the motion controller and goggles. And has the same top speed (not counting Avatas manual mode). And has 2x/3x the battery life. And has better night mode. And has a zoom tele lens. 18min battery life for the Avata is just a dealbreaker. And its not even 249g like the Mini. The mini which has 2x battery life.. While being lighter.
That fun doesn’t last long unless you have 4 to 5 more batteries which cost approx as the drone itself. Batteries 🔋 are very expensive
Seems like you havent flown the first Fpv. That Drone is a hayday. Its litterly got horse power. The Avata seems cool with a top speed of 60. The other does 60 in sport. 90 in manual. Depending on what you want. The first drone rips. Like hard. I have had it 3 weeks and im in love.
can you yaw and strake with the motion controller (as in, orbit around an object) or is it just forwards and turn?

I'm concerned about the controller. I like the gamer-style. Not sure about the stick, motion control. Should I be worried?
Minute 3:00 > I wasn't aware the avata has a hide-and-seek mode 🤣
Do you have use the goggles to fly it? I assume so, as it doesn't look like there's a controller
Where is this majestic place?!
I have a feeling the product name Avata is pronounced like Avatar (but without the r at the end)... makes sense right?
This is more than 249 grams and less flight time than the Mini, so unfortunately not a good choice for me. I hope they make micro model.

CNET, ***Big issue*** the motion controller may not charge with the battery pack per the manual, LIKE MINE. The only workaround, you’ll need to find an old Apple charging block (the small one) and a USB-A to USB-C cable only to charge it. Nothing else will work, trust me I know. This is a known issue. I spent hours trying to get mine to charge and almost sent it back per the warranty. Please let people know this. Thank you Sir!

1169 is with the old goggles, these new ones are 200 more
what's the point to have a more cinematic drone when the quality of the video is dipping when low lights.
I feel like I'm missing something. What's the point of goggles if there's only one camera on board? Wouldn't stereoscopic vision be much better for navigating tight spaces?
The only thing portrait mode should be used for is....portraits.
I wear glasses, would I have a hard to wearing goggles?
The FPV isn't its predecessor. It's a different drone. Ones somewhere between a FPV drone and a standard camera drones. The others a cinewhoop.
I like it how much??

What coat are wearing at the 3:00 mark? Love it!
Genuine question: given all the US restrictions on drone flight, why would an average consumer spend $1k on a drone like this?
