it's worth pointing out that Arca on top of being a DJ, producer, singer and musician, she's also a sound designer, so a good chunk of the sounds you're hearing here are created by her, that's why her palette sounds so unique, it literally is hers.

Suprisingly, I love Arana because of why its so disjointed and then it just harmonizes at the end. It's chaotic and therapeutic to me, I just listen to it whenever I feel like it idk. In the shower, car, whenever it's just like if you like the song you'll play it! Arana is very deconstructed so it's not everyones cup of tea and may be a bit jarring, but to me its beautifully pieced out and horrifingly gorgeous!

and i also think the song simulates an spider using glass as a web in my opinion, it looks like she is trying to reach the highest part of the web and when she finally made it here it comes the harmony and the vocals in the end, i don't know i interpretate in that way and it brings me such calm and relief...

I get completely why you would ask 'when would you listen to this type of song' with regards to Arana specifically. I think Arca's music is more of an artistic statement and when I listen to her as much as I can really appreciate her more recent departure from being strictly experimental to now also creating melodic/pop oriented tracks like 'Time' from KiCk i, for example. I think Arca's main focus is always placing the listener in a different world sonically with a main focus being on textured and deconstructed sounds. It's more about what atmosphere she's trying to create than her trying to make a catchy song that's comfortable for the listener. I feel she almost approaches the music the same way a painter approaches the canvas, it's all about the details and what she's trying to express through that. The whole kick series is about her journey and life experiences as a trans woman, so I feel the music from the kick series having that deconstructed element to it is a nod to her deconstructing the version of herself that society was perceiving, rebuilding herself and putting the self actualised version of herself back out into society.

Araña is a really good song in my opinion. It’s not really for everyone. Even arca said she doesn’t want people to like it the first time, she wants people to really take the time to listen to it and by the maybe 10th listen. then they’ll get the hang of it

Kick i is my personal favorite, followed by Kick iii, but I love everything she does tbh

In my opinion kick II is not an album to listen to every day, but it transports you to places outside of Earth. I listen to Arana when I want to get rid of thoughts and focus on sounds. Initially, I didn't understand how this song could be listened to, but with each listening you get more and more used to the sound and find something new in the song

to me, arca’s music is like meditation. something i listen to when i want to imagine myself far away on another planet. in the car or laying on the floor with my eyes closed, it’s like sensory deprivation to me almost.

I think "Arana" is a song that is very complex, irregular and surrrealist, and that's the charm of it! It's full of little details and sounds that you can only "structure" and/or "perceive" after many listens. I love the robotic sound and the "broken" vibe you get from it. In the end of the song comes Arca's voice in an incredibly emotional and profound way, you imagine the pain or melancholy she feels or felt, the moment the song is trying to describe, I even imagine an arana (spider) moving and making spider stuff. Overall, it's a song I listen to enjoy it, it's a specific type of vibe that with time you want more and more ...

I love all 5 albums in the Kick Cycle. To me, it's one of the most epic and audacious accomplishments in recorded music by ANY artist - and having it be a nonbinary member of the LGBTQ+ community is all gravy. AMAZING.

Arca listener here- So I don’t actually listen to individual songs that often. I like albums as experiences, and so I just flow through the journey the artist takes me. But I really like araña because it’s just so texture dense and expressive, it really just makes me think about music in a way not other songs do. It’s not something you can just put in the background, it commands your attention, and I really like that.

Guarantee in a month or two you will be like "Remember that weird album? I need to listen to that again" and be super into it! Some of my favourite artists I wasn't into at first, but then something was telling me to listen to them again and I fell in love. If you like the piano stuff I highly recommend Kick 5, if you like the more hiphop stuff I recommend stuff like Baron Foyel and Baron Libre, or Stretch 1 / 2. Xen is like a mixture of hiphop, piano, and experimental stuff which is more accessible, it's what I first heard from her and I loved it instantly. Cool to see a reaction video like this (:

Your open mind is a sign of great musicianship! And for tracks like Arana or Confianza, I started listening to songs like these from Arca for psychedelic-type experiences. It started with me just getting really high and letting Arca just carry my experience with her soundscapes, and eventually I got so defamaliarized to her odd structure, sounds, and musicality that now I can genuinely just listen to those for a vibe like I would a standard pop song -- and honestly, standard music now feels so much more restrictive because of listening to artists like Arca. When there's the same pattern or chord progression in a song (which pop songs are pretty much made out of) , I get so much more bored now than I used to before. Arca literally like Arca-fies your music taste if you listen to her enough and her most unapproachable sounds eventually become comforting -- and it's how Arca opens up the listener to experiencing that is one of the most insane aspects about her artistry. That "entertaining" listening experience is exactly it -- I find myself having much less constraints and barriers to art now. Like I'm very much more open to things I used to dislike and can see the beauty in places I used to not when it comes to music and Arca definitely bridged me to that. And if you want more piano from Arca and slower tracks, listen to Kick V! It's basically like a modern classical experimental album lol. Completely different sonically from her other Kicks. And a side note: Arca actually was one of three lead producers on Kanye's Yeezus, and a few of the tracks on that album actually sample songs from her album &&&&&. And another side note lol: KiCk has to do with the concept of a baby kicking a mother's stomach in the womb. Arca said something along that being one of the first signs of a determined life -- a life that moves for its own, and makes a statement for itself (it kicks!). The final track of the series is called Crown actually -- which I think may be referencing crowning during birth.

You are such a angel for giving this a listen! Loved the reaction and how open minded you were! Kick iii is much more consistent and vibrant. Each Kick is very different but I feel like you would appreciate that one! Definitely give it a listen! Subscribing for sure hun.

I'm really into ethereal music and I feel like Arca's music transports me to another dimension and gets me in a creative headspace. Her music definitely isn't for everyone though and some of it can be really left field. Regardless I'm anticipating your kick iii reaction!

Kick ii is probably not the first album of Arca’s I would recommend as an introduction to her stuff, but I loved how open you are to new experiences in music. It’s quite okay if this is not your cup of tea. Music can take different forms and it’s up to you to decide if it “makes sense” to you or not. One thing I’d say is… well, she’s as experimental as it can get in today’s music industry. It really took me some time to adjust my ear to where her art flows, and there are still some stuff from her that doesn’t quite resonate with me (like track 7), but then some of my favorite songs ever can be found in her discography. If you’re up to it or even a little bit intrigued, then I’d strongly recommened you check out Kick i and iii. Kick i especially I think might be her most approachable album to someone who’s not that used to her roughest soundscapes. Great content and great reaction! Cheers!

I listen to Araña whenever I feel like listening to something weird and freaky because that’s what I like and connect with since I often feel like a weirdo, which I am. It’s nice to have that side of me validated, and it’s just interesting and entertaining to listen to music that pushes boundaries of what’s possible and ‘beautiful’

Arca is an artist that really helps me whenever I’m down, and gives me a lot of motivation and creativity to keep it moving. These kick albums really capture so much emotion in so many profound ways

I wasn't a fan of Arana on my first listen but with time I've come to really appreciate all the details and textures of the production. I also really like the way it evolves and is able to tell a story/evoke emotion without the use of words, it reminds me of certain classical pieces of music from the romantic era in that sense. All of her Kick series albums kind of follow a different genre with the exception of kick i which is like a sneak peek at the rest of the albums. Kick iii is absolutely the best in my opinion, it's like off-the-wall deconstructed club music but mixed with Arca's out of this world production

Track 7 is a good song for walking through the woods

To be honest... I listen to arca either to practice my dancing (which has always been a big hobby of mine) or while I'm doing my makeup to prepare for the day. Arca is unique because of her outlook on life based on originally being born a male and then transitioning into a trans female. It really does help me mentally meditate on topics, ideas, feelings. I suggest you try it. Her work is very existential and cosmic.

Kick 3 is the best one!! Also I highly suggest Sophie oil of every pearls in insides!! That one is my favorite of all time

Please react to some of Bjork's music, I feel you will like Volta, but she also has a new album out called Fossora. Arca has produced two of her albums too (Vulnicura and Utopia). 08:51 and in answer to your question, defintely the biggest draw to Arca's music (and to tracks like that) is, for me, the textures she uses, lot's of atmosphere and experimentation as well. tbh the Kick albums are the most pop she's ever sounded, her earlier albums are mostly a lot darker and instrumental. If you liked the lyrics and melodic elements though, I feel you'll love her self-titled album from 2017 Thank you for doing this! Always love seeing people react to music they wouldn't normally listen to!

i mostly listen to arca for the interesting sounds, some of the "songs" are not exactly structured like songs (but some are)

arana is something i listen to while walking to school because it kinda wakes me up, and it like really makes me think, and the sounds like please my brain in a way!

my circle of friends and i have been listening to arca for so long and so regularly that i forget her way of approaching production is strange to a lot of people, it’s funny seeing your reaction. but yes i just put this music on whenever. when i’m driving, cleaning, getting ready for a night out, having sex. is good music

about Arana, it's my favorite song from kick ii its somehow very emotional for me and it connects with my spirit and emotions every time i listen to it i feel understood while listening to it, because of my personal interpretation of the song last year ive went through a lot with this song being in the background (overall with arca being in the background) she really helped me to see the light at the end of the tunnel
