t3rr3nc388 Men in Black, Gettin' Jiggy wit It and Summertime are bangers, but yeah he's done other stuff and I think he's an underrated rapper. People don't take Will Smith seriously as a rapper. Even Nas said 'Will is a true MC'. Will was the first rapper in history to be awarded a grammy in 1988. If you listen to his lesser known tracks and freestyles you realise that Will Smith is a wordsmith.

Will Smith and Jazzy Jeff were very instrumental at bringing Rap into the mainstream. It started with the Sugar Hill Gang and continued with Kurtis Blow, Run DMC, the Fat Boys, Kid N Play and LL Cool J, but it was Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince who won the first Grammy for Rap Music which officially made it mainstream.

Not underated. If it wasn't 4 Jeff and other Philly Dj's, people would not have advanced their game so soon. Jeff raised the bar. I mean, how can any DJ stay with those boring- straight -kick drum scratches after hearing "The Magnificent" on their 1st album or hearing the "He's the Dj, I'm the rapper " album? When I heard Rhythm TRax house party style as a kid, I nearly lost my mind! Like WTF??? Nobody was doing that. People know they got their shit from Jeff, or at least he forced them 2 improve. It's like when James Brown and his funk came around. Many were forced 2 copy the style if they wanted hits! Jeff and Will were a big influence in hip hop. These hard acting fools, just don't want 2 admit it. In a battle back in those days, I believe Will could go toe 2 toe with many of these dudes in a free style. Skills! All I can say.
