Lyrics:
I remember one year
My mom took me school shopping
It was me, my brother, my mom, oh, my pop, and my little sister
All hopped in the car
We headed downtown to the Gallery Mall
MY mom started bugging with the clothes she chose
I didn't say nothing at first
I just turned up my nose
She said, What's wrong? This shirt cost $20
I said, Mom, this shirt is plaid with a butterfly collar!
The next half hour was the same old thing
My mother buying me clothes from 1963
And then she lost her mind and did the ultimate
I asked her for Adidas and she bought me Zips!
I said, Mom, what are you doing, you're ruining my rep
She said, You're only sixteen, you don't have a rep yet
I said, Mom, let's put these clothes back, please
She said no, you go to school to learn not for a fashion show
I said, This isn't Sha Na Na, come on Mom, I'm not Bowzer

Haaaaa ha- Nelson. Just came here to be all like I'm a mom again. & I dont think the anxiousness ever goes away. This time , I just didn't think I'd get pregnant again. & I do really think that w/ some certain things, it really doesn't matter the age. But even w/ all my crazy... I'd say I did at least raise a pretty cool kid. I'll pat myself on the back w/ that. So, hopefully that's a little bit encouraging for this time around./ I just dont want the kid to be no really. You're old. What do u understand... ? or maybe it's just in the spirit type thing.. Some of what my kid says is just rewarding enough. Everyone has all these 2 cents about how to guide kids... while my kid: idk. My mom's cool. I can tell her anything. She can remember what it's like to be a kid. She's not judgey& loves me regardless. Apparently other kids: I wish I could open up to my parents. & "adults": gonna talk to this kid on the dl. & it prob isn't a phase. Me: haha awww now isn't that cute. Did u know my kid tells me everything tho 🌠😭. .. Try not, trifling ass 😑🤚. They're. Kids...!!! Also also I actually like my kids jams. But Ha, I remember being at a friend's house putting this on their intercom. I said something like I know u didn't just drop that & didn't bother to pick up after yourself... played x files theme song then this. Something like that. I couldn't see what they were doing. Just felt the need to bug them.

@@ahhwe-any7434 Ha my kids are in their mid 20's now...they know most of these songs I grew up on...They turned out mostly ok too. I raised em awesome...homeschooled mostly, taught to love and respect everyone. Then they got to a public HS and that all changed. Started smoking, swearing, telling us how wrong we were parenting...well I was parenting. They loved Mom, she was their best friend...the wait till Dad gets home kinda Mom. So the oldest still hates me and won't talk to me for some unknown reason. The youngest went through it for a bit too. But they got into all the gender stuff, the parents are abusing you if they tell you NO, parents should never discipline you, the parents should let you do whatever you want, kind of BS still prevalent in the schools. But I know why the oldest want talk to me...cuz I call BS on all her...and reveal how her beliefs contradict themselves and what she preaches. Ya know love and accept everyone...unless they think or speak different than you then they're a bigot and disrespectful and homophobic, and your enemy, a gaslighter and... The youngest has a dog she has spent hundreds of hours training. Now a serious BF, that's just like me...and it drives her nuts LOL. Well he's a younger, more clueless, less responsible more financially illiterate version of me haha. She's realized again through talking to me the irony of their perfect version of me...isn't me but what THEY THINK I should be...ever since I asked her a series of strategic questions that made her articulate that out loud...she has been much more reasonable to be around. OH the look of terror on her face when she realized what she was saying...suddenly she got pissed and had to leave haha. She's grown up and realized parents aren't as bad as they used to believe. Funny how they would mouth off when their friends were around...then their friends would tell em that's how parents are supposed to be and they do it cuz they care about us haha. OH they hated those situations. Now she's trying to teach responsibility and money management to her 21yr old BF which isn't going so well. And it frustrates her LOL. I just reply, kinda like a kid huh. There's still hope for them, I remind her at that age I had 2 kids and a house couple cars and motorcycles. It's not how much you make it's how you make your decisions in life There's still hope

Some people dogged Will for being clean in his rap music. A lot of folks were mad and booed when he won the Grammy for "Parents Just Don't Understand." Gangsta rap was dawning then. But I thought Will was a master lyricist. Gangsta rap has its place in hip hop history. Street poets. But Will didn't grow up like that. Every black person didn't grow up like that. Will couldn't rely on shock, violence, gun play, dropping f-bombs, the n-word, etc. he had to be more creative. Shame he got dogged so bad back then. Half of those rappers that dogged him are not even here anymore. Look at Will Smith now!

People tend to give Jazz and Will's music flak for being too clean and silly, but honestly they were good for representing the more fun and lighthearted side of rap. They were not trying to make a statement or address issues with society and politics, they told silly stories with some well done beats and I could not listen to them any other way.

Its easygoing and Style. Its not made for arrested people. I just left Rap when i realised that people started to do it for people in jail. The only guy i listened a little after this was 2Pac. Then i never came back to rap.

This song is a perfect of example why Will is my favourite rapper, his bouncy drum beats, which compliment, his bouncy, jumpy, cartoony rapping which is filled with emotion, enthusiasm and character, with really fun, funny storytelling with really clever and funny rhymes, he is definitely Hip-Hop's greatest story teller.

Of course this is the epitome of what was known at the time as bubblegum rap. Yes that is the best way to describe Will Smith at the time easy to play on the radio for all the masses to hear. But DJ Jazzy Jeff was extremely underrated definitely one of the best it's scratching vinyl dropping beats with it 😊.
