    Being a wedding DJ and someone who works for a major city fire dept....I will tell you, these can cause a fire. Most common cold spark powder is titanium or zirconium which are both flammable and combustible. People always show hands over the cold spark and not burning them.... of course not, the surface area of the sparks bouncing off someone's hand is happening so fast that the heat produced isn't being completely transmitted to your non flammable hand. Lay a brides vail or a venues drape over the cold spark and trigger the system, see if that cloth ignites. People need to understand that while these things are somewhat safe, they are not foolproof.

    I haven't used a cold spark machine before, but as I watched you manually turn the wheel for cleanout, I couldn't help but think that either a P2 screw head or something you could tighten a standard drill chuck onto might be a good thing for that wheel, to assist with a faster/more convenient cleanout. That is, unless it causes some sort of risk due to turning speed and/or direction.

    You dont need to manually turn it unless you get a clogg. Other than that 99% of the time it keeps its self clean

    What is the legality of cold sparks in Honolulu, Hawaii? I was trying to find info but could not. Apparently we are the only state with no fire marshal haha. Who are you using for pyro insurance? I asked my DJ insurance guy at PEEP and their only option was $2300 per year thru Lloyds of London (sounds excessive). A dozen guys on Oahu are using them with no issues so far. Thanks!

    What brand did you get? I ordered a few from a big name brand years ago. 2 of 12 were dead on arrival. 1 had a blown fuse, easy fix. The 2nd machine, we changed the fuse, ethercon cable, ran direct power and nothing. We ended up opening the unit and one of the cables inside was crimped between the housing causing a short. We moved the cable and wrapped the cable a bit, put it back together and all were 100% functional. The mechanism is really basic, as long as the inside chain and the heating element are functioning, you are good to go. Good luck.

    You'll run into the same venue restrictions with bubbles, haze, CO2, lasers... pretty much anything that isn't an Up-Light or a speaker on a stick. I swear, I have to explain myself (and my gear) to almost every other venue I perform at these days. Here's the reason: It's not the cold sparks, it's the dopey DJ before you that ran them all night, coated the floor with powder, set off the fire alarm, and set the curtains ablaze! Or the DJ who filled the room with some much haze that you couldn't see your hand in front of your face! Or how about that moron DJ with the bubbles that turned the dance floor into a slip 'n slide?!? The point is - we're not fighting the equipment, we're fighting the idiots who use the equipment improperly.

  • @robertfleischmann4119

    Also, no matter what "brand" spark machine you have, they are all designed and made in the same Chinese factory. They just slap a different sticker on the side and sell them to different US outlets. The original patent on these things was filed in China.

    Alot of this information is fantastic... however, even COLD SPARKS WILL START FIRES!!! Even the units you demo here. Put them near fake flowers, a napkin, a hankerchief, etc... if any of those are in direct contact of the sparks... then can and will ignite if left there long enough. I have taken a popular machine (similar to the one shown here) and intentionally put many different fabrics, paper and other common products found at weddings and subjected them to the sparks until they ignited. Then took note on how long it took to ignite. I have personally witnessed a woman wearing a shirt with loose fibers waving her hand through the sparks and the fibers on her shirt started to burn. I also know of another local company that has already started 3 fires, extinguised quickly thank God, but it has happened. ALOT of common sence needs to be applied with these units, when used properly they are awesome, when not used properly you run at risk. In addition, it's stated that they do not emit any smoke, they indeed do. Need proof... look at the air in front of your lights... you can see the beams just as if you were using haze. If set off too aggressively you can trip an alarm.

  • @skymeyer
    @skymeyer7 ай бұрын

    Now do the same test putting some light fabric, a piece of paper or your hair in the flame and watch what happens. The sparks are just bouncing off your hand not having the chance to exchange the generated heat. These are not toys to be used if you're not a certified pyro operator and are classified as pyrotechnic across all states. Despite what manufacturers say how safe these devices are, they just aren't (and especially not when manufactured without certification). Also under certain conditions these powders can actually spontaneously combust when the alloy mixture is not accurate. Why do you think these are shipped "differently" as you say ? The misinformation is mind boggling.
