Thanks for the video and the design. I made mine to go in my basement under the stairs. My wine rack came out so nice that I had to finish the space so I have a nice wine "nook". BTW, I did use hole saws for the large and small holes and then ripped the boards in half. Thanks again!

As you were Jigsawing those half rounds out all I could think about was why not hole saws and table sawing the boards down the middle?

Because then I wouldn't have had to jigsaw out 30 tiny holes and I wouldn't appreciate the times I didn't want to kill myself haha. Definitely a better idea. I did want to show how someone could do it without a table saw and just hand tools if they couldn't rip the boards..... but I am not sure it was worth my sanity

I bought 1x8s and a 2 1/2” and 4” hole cutting blades. Cut the holes and and then ripped the boards down the middle. Took a lot less time than jig sawing them all.

Nice enough! Next time I would suggest using the holesaw before you rip your wood. That way you’re ripping down through the middle of the hole and you have so much more cutting done for you! Good job though.

So I have been buying trunk for 5 bucks and plan on putting wine racks in them to give to my girlfriend and sister in-law kind of like a trunk bar thank you for the help let your girl know your the man

I’m about to make a similar rack but what I intend to do is mark out my circles first, cut with either a hole saw or forstner bit THEN rip down the center with the table saw. I don’t foresee any issues but I’m sure I’ll screw it up. Lol. Thanks for the video.

Nice video. If you decide to redo it, knowing what you do now, you can screw in from behind the face boards, leaving no screws showing on the front. Good job.

Would have using a wholesaw to drill the holes before ripping the boards not been faster than using a jigsaw? I like your design, might go through the trouble of making this at some point. I just purchased a wine rack kit that holds 120 bottles but have not put it together yet. Cost me 100 CAN$. Would you say that doing it from scratch like you did be cheaper, the same or more expensive? Obviously it depends on the type of wood you use but I am guessing for something like this, anything would do, even cedar? Last question, would staining and or putting a varnish on the wood be a good idea? Thanks for the video!

You could absolutely do that! Way cheaper. At the time, I would say I made this for less than $30. I used pine so the wood was cheap (at the time). And I have since put a coat of varnish on the wood, I just don't show it in the video

At the time (before the huge price increase on lumber) I believe it was less than $35 with hardware included

Looking at the diagram, I don't understand the measurements. 3.9, 1.4, 9.1, 2.8 etc. Is this 3 and 9/16, 1 and 4/16 etc.? Thank you

If you dont mind me asking, how much did it cost for all the materials to build this? Trying to decide if it would be cheaper to build one instead of buying one. Thank you in advance.

Cost of lumber is super hight right now. At the time I built it, 2x2s were about 1.97 a piece, 3" boards were about $5 (all pine).... so figure around $30-$40 for material plus the screws

Sorry, but this is a pretty terrible way to go at this. It is crazy labor intensive and anyone who has done much work with a jigsaw knows that you will NOT get a nice looking product when you are thru, as there will be far too many "discrepancies" in the cuts, which would be fixable with sanding if it was one cut, but which will not match the other, also different, cuts. You really think people can cut 1.4" circles in wood with a jigsaw? Exactly the same every time? I don't think so!

Thank you Larry. I can always depend on someone who doesn't read the description for me to reiterate the point. This is for someone who wants to make one using the simplest of tools. Could it be easier with other tools? Sure. But most people have a jig saw and drill. Not a lot have a router, band saw, skil saw, etc. Also, Larry, based on your profile photo, I should recommend some of my other videos on stretching and strengthening your knees as you are probably of an age that this is becoming an issue.
