DIY Water Tower | IBC Tote Water Storage (Great for DRINKING WATER - SHOWERS - GARDENING)

Check out how we put together our #DIYWaterTower. This #IBCTote Water Storage is going to be used for our drinking water storage backup, outdoor showers, and watering our garden. It's also going to serve as a #WaterBackup to our 100 gallons of fresh water storage that's on the bus.
The IBC tote we acquired was previously used for hydrogen peroxide and is A-OK for using with potable water (drinking water).
To prevent algae growth inside the IBC tote, we were looking for a roll of 6 mil poly film, but all the stores were out of ANY weight of that plastic sheeting. So we ended up using black trash bags taped to the sides.
Having the IBC tote water tower up high increases the head pressure, which will allow for a higher rate of flow than if we kept it set on the ground. Also, the discharge orifice on the IBC tote needs to be higher than the discharge on the garden hose, because water seeks the lowest point.

    I was just watching David Dubyne's Adapt 2030 channel and he was again stressing the importance of water! Now I'm glad we went with the 39 gallon tank in our sprinter. But we've been shopping for huge water and deisel tanks too. Didn't think about the algae issue before, appreciate that pro tip. Brilliant level solution👏 Keep fighting the good fight:) Sending Best Wishes and Blessings, James and Kim ❤️

  • @BEAdventurePartners

    Yeah Dubyne has it dialed in and has great info on his channel! Painting IBC totes isn't the best solution because not many paints stick to HDPE plastics. We've seen a bunch of people painting them just to come back a few months later saying that the paint was already flaking off. So we went the cheap-o way. Too bad we couldn't get ahold of any UV stable 6 mil black poly sheeting, or we would have put that up. Water, gasoline, diesel... It's definitely important to stock up. Luckily fuel prices are going down right now! Good to hear y'all are stocking up too! Thanks for watching, James + Kim! - B+E

    Garden tool storage you can also use an IBC Tote to make an outside shower it would just be a little taller Paint It Black the sun heats it up during the day you have a warm shower in the evening leave it dry in the winter time you might want to put a 2x4 underneath the where the water comes out down to the 2x4 right beneath it just to kind of give it a little support because when you put the hose on there it puts extra weight pulling down and it might snap something off in the winter or whatever of course you aren't going to have the hose on in the winter but it just gives it a little extra support...if you ever get chickens you won't have ticks but you have to have a coop and run that are completely critter proof,I have chicken wire over the top for hawks,eagles,and owls and coons who will climb on top.I also connect chicken wire to the bottom of the wall of the wire run and flat on the ground out about 1 1/2 feet out any animal trying to dig will come to the bottom of the fence start digging and hit wire they free range during the day

  • @BEAdventurePartners

    @BEAdventurePartners

    2 жыл бұрын

    What's funny about you saying to make an outdoor shower is that we've already been using it as an outdoor shower @KAREN RIGGLE! We do have the manifold support bracket installed so there is no pressure on the connection. Chickens! YES! They are on our list of first animals to get, but we gotta get this greenhouse up first before we can spend the time to build the infrastructure for their survival. Great idea about the hardware cloth running along the ground. We're going to bury it a bit to keep the digging critters out fo sho! Thanks for watching! More fun to come! - B+E

    That full of water will weigh over 2,000 pounds, 8.3 pounds per gallon x 270 estimated. I would be very cautious around it when you get it full, that frame doesn't look that robust for that much weight....just a little sideways pressure might collapse it suddenly.

  • @BEAdventurePartners

    @BEAdventurePartners

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hey there @Brian Egeberg! Yes, any water tower should be approached with caution, I'm thinking of drilling some auger anchors like the ones used for mobile homes to anchor it in place. Also, the 10 gauge steel is angle iron all welded together, which is quite strong. Check out the specs on steel. It's been used for all sorts of construction throughout time. Thanks for watching! - Brian + Erin too

Heading up to Taos land so re-watched your water tank video again, Getting ready to homestead for the summer and before well gets drilled I will need a water storage system.
