That dual mic technique at the end is both a 🤯 and a "duh" moment for me. Makes so much sense since I account for phase all the time when mixing bands. I may have to try that out!

Nice work guys. Accusonus has a plugin called ERA D which uses two microphones as input (one with the noise, one with the sound source you want to keep) which *I think* does the phase cancellation technique Andrew mentioned. Pretty useful for those noisy situations.

With high sound quality being more available than ever for home viewing experiences, do you think ambisonic approaches to sound spacializing could be an effective tool to make content outside of a VR? Love to hear what the pros think.

Interesting. I have to do some experiments with the dual microphone phase cancellation technique. I have my doubts though as this really only works on identical signals. Is the idea to put both mics on the boompole or have a plant mic? In case of a plant mic I guess something like vocalign or Auto align to count for time differences and then flip the phase. The mic facing the noise will have a more defined noise though, sotechnically it will not sound the same and there is a risk of getting it more defined since I imagine the coloration and transients will be different.

Doesn't matter which, I know the question wasn't for me. However you should note that headphones does not matter, if you can listen to a low end headphone even better, cause if your recording sounds great on your phone speakers and, computer speakers, you're good to go. People will not be using high end headphones to listen to you, so you should not be concern. But you can get the Audio-Technica - ATH-M20x Monitor Headphones - Black Which is about 50 or so dollars.
