Hey guys, in this video I walk you through my vocal booth build. This vocal booth was very easy to setup and cost me less than $100. Obviously your room and setup will be a bit different than mine, but I hope this build helps you put together a super simple vocal booth that will help you produce great vocal recordings!

@@itsmintvanilla it helps but if really depends how load you sing. A booth isn’t for sound proofing, it’s for sound treatment. They are 2 different things. It will help cut down a few db but you will still be able to hear someone singing in there from the outside.

Radio presenter and voiceover artist here, smile when you talk and speak passed the mic not directly into it. Keep water in a bottle next to you, ensure your nasal cavity is not swollen or congested. Clear your throat and chest. Use deep hums to warm up your vocal cords, shorten your S’s an T’s. When reading a script pre-read and memorise 2-3 sentences ahead.

so many voice artists are like vegans. Nobody askes them, but they have to tell you about their "tricks". This videos is not about the voice or anything. It's about a vocal booth for under 100 bucks.

Yep. I did the same thing. Mom had one of those 4 panel things with hinges between the panels. It was like those rice paper changing dividers the movie stars of the 50’s would change behind trying to be sexy. Had the moving blankets and a van shelf covered with those clamps. I found the tripod vocal stands unstable but the ones with the round cast iron base did the trick. Bought an iPad stand mount and had lyrics scrolling. Fold it up, put in closet.

Life saver! I started going back to school for animation. We only have like two sound booths in the entire school (it's really the music department's booth, but depending on the project and availability, they'll let the animation students reserve it as well). 9 times out of 10, it's always booked lol So that always leaves me with trying to record the voice over on my phone inside the closet. As you could imagine, the sound is TERRIBLE. Ruins the entire animation project sometimes! SO, I have been looking for cost effective alternatives, and I stumbled upon your video. THANKS for the straight-to-the-point content, the thorough explanation, and example as well. It'll save me now in the future. 🙏

I use this light: amzn.to/3TBjuKa It's battery powered but can also run off of a usb c cable. VERY bright, especially for how small the light is. You can attach it to a little hand-held tripod and clamp it up into one of the corners of the vocal booth. OR you can use tape it up somewhere haha.

Great video! And thank you for taking the time to teach us all how to do this. I’m curious about something though. Your blankets aren’t going all the way down to the ground. They couldn’t be I mean. The one that makes the roof would have to be at least 115 inches long to accomplish this, yet the link says your blanket is only 80 inches (I think). Even the one hanging from the hooks that wraps around wouldn’t be long enough to hit the floor as you need at least 83 inches there. So it that not important? Thanks!!!!

Tim what's up my friend! Thanks for your comment. I'd be happy to put something together about mixing vocals. I will say, I have my next couple months worth of videos locked in, so it might take me a minute to get this video out! In the meantime check out a channel called Help Me Devvon. He's got some really great videos about vocal mixing and EQ. I've learned a lot from his videos. Another tool I really recommend using is an EQ trainer. Training your ear to quickly identify trouble frequencies in a recording is really really useful.

Hey man, thanks for this video, you said this could be done without the closet door. Because of the set up I have, that is likely what I will go for. Would I just need another mic stand for that

Would adding an extra layer of moving blankets help reduce noise heard from the outside even if minimally? I live in an apartment with some pretty decent walls, but I would be comfortable knowing I’m not bothering anyone by playing guitar.
