Hey guys, in this video I walk you through my vocal booth build. This vocal booth was very easy to setup and cost me less than $100. Obviously your room and setup will be a bit different than mine, but I hope this build helps you put together a super simple vocal booth that will help you produce great vocal recordings!

@@PatrickBreenMusic Guys does this type of vocal Booth deals with high frequencies and low frequencies issues?
@itsmintvanilla

how does it do as far as sound proofing - trying not to bother neighbors.
@officialWWM
2 жыл бұрын
@@itsmintvanilla it helps but if really depends how load you sing. A booth isn’t for sound proofing, it’s for sound treatment. They are 2 different things. It will help cut down a few db but you will still be able to hear someone singing in there from the outside.
Radio presenter and voiceover artist here, smile when you talk and speak passed the mic not directly into it. Keep water in a bottle next to you, ensure your nasal cavity is not swollen or congested. Clear your throat and chest. Use deep hums to warm up your vocal cords, shorten your S’s an T’s. When reading a script pre-read and memorise 2-3 sentences ahead.

so many voice artists are like vegans. Nobody askes them, but they have to tell you about their "tricks". This videos is not about the voice or anything. It's about a vocal booth for under 100 bucks.
Not only was this insanely informative and helpful, the *way* you explained it and walked through the process was also incredibly clear and to the point, and that's what I really appreciate.

This is really clear and looks so easy to achieve. Thank you so much for sharing this!
Thank you! I got the same hooks and blankets, emptied my closet and put the hooks around the walls. It definitely works. I really appreciate the video!
that edited audio with compression and eq sounds amazing, gonna use this! TY!!
THIS IS BRILLIANT!! I used to sit in a CLOSET in the good old days BEFORE acoustic blankets were available.!! TOP RESULT!
Well done! The proof of concept demonstration result at the end with the solo singer, then the mixed song was fantastic for this economical price!
Yep. I did the same thing. Mom had one of those 4 panel things with hinges between the panels. It was like those rice paper changing dividers the movie stars of the 50’s would change behind trying to be sexy. Had the moving blankets and a van shelf covered with those clamps. I found the tripod vocal stands unstable but the ones with the round cast iron base did the trick. Bought an iPad stand mount and had lyrics scrolling. Fold it up, put in closet.
The most easy one I've ever seen. Thanks man 💙
5:46 , men the sound was so GOOD. It made me smile. Totaly going to do it to.

Life saver! I started going back to school for animation. We only have like two sound booths in the entire school (it's really the music department's booth, but depending on the project and availability, they'll let the animation students reserve it as well). 9 times out of 10, it's always booked lol So that always leaves me with trying to record the voice over on my phone inside the closet. As you could imagine, the sound is TERRIBLE. Ruins the entire animation project sometimes! SO, I have been looking for cost effective alternatives, and I stumbled upon your video. THANKS for the straight-to-the-point content, the thorough explanation, and example as well. It'll save me now in the future. 🙏
Thank you so much I'm add this to a playlist so I can get the word out it's this effortless.
This is amazing and is something that I'm looking forward on making and further improving the audio on my narrations. Tyvm Sir
Thank you Patrick!!! This is an excellent demo and construction of vocal booth!! Absolutely will build one! Can't wait to start recording!! I LOVE this video!!! ☮👌✔💗

Thank you so much!!! I want to start voice overs for a side hustle and can't build a studio!! This will be the perfect solution :) YAY!!!
This is EXACTLY what I was looking for! I tried making my own blueprint for a “tri booth” to install in the corner but when I did research for materials, what I found was either not I was looking for or broke the bank. Thank you, THANK YOU
Sounds great and the beat on that track slaps.
Thanks Patrick! I built mine but used some heavy steel L-brackets (already had) and a 30" square piece of plywood on top - hooked to the door ... even cut a hole in the top for a light - works GREAT Thanks for the hookup to the hooks and curtains and grommets - worked GREAT!

Thanks man, just what i need! I've been looking for something to treat my room for rap recordings, but it was overly complicated and it would require a lot of money and time to make ot work...

The death cab poster? Oh yeah, definitely subbing. This might make you feel old, but when I was a baby and we’d take long car trips, I’d always ask my parents to play the “bop bah” song, which was the sound of settling lol.

This seems like it will work perfectly for my studio setup.I wanted to make one with the pvc pipe frame, however my space is so small and due to where my closet is located. This should do nicely. I’ve ordered my blankets. Price has gone up significantly since the airing of this video. Thanks for the great video!

Question though. When you have it completely closed, what do you do for light in the booth? I imagine it’s a bit dark.
@PatrickBreenMusic
Жыл бұрын
I use this light: amzn.to/3TBjuKa It's battery powered but can also run off of a usb c cable. VERY bright, especially for how small the light is. You can attach it to a little hand-held tripod and clamp it up into one of the corners of the vocal booth. OR you can use tape it up somewhere haha.
Thanks Patrick I was so worry I had to pay a lot of money for a booth you made it easy for me thanks again ☺️

WOW!!! Excellent video Patrick, and THANK YOU for posting!!! My youtube channel has been on hold for months (not by choice) partially due to having no viable options for doing my voiceovers. Did some googling and found THIS video and am not disappointed!!! I do have one question though- what do you use or do for lighting in your hand made sound booth? Thanks again! Fawn 😊❤👍

this was a really helpful video as well as the mics comparison, can't thank you enough for that. Just wanted to ask you about the setup. I just bought the akg p120 and a mic stand (tripod) but can't find the right shock mount. Do you still think it still holds it's own the standard mount that includes? p.s. Javi's vocal melody got me hooked instantly.
Thanks man!!

Hey, great idea! What is the soundproofing like? I live in an apartment and am wondering if this will help with my noise output when singing
@christianmccauley7340
4 ай бұрын
Might not be perfect, but it’s probably pretty solid. I mean, think about it. If you hold a normal blanket in front of your face and sing, the sound proofing is already pretty good. These blankets were basically designed to soak up noise, so it should be solid
i need this
Thanks very much
Man. Everywhere online says you gotta spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars to get good results, yet I wouldn't have known you recorded your vocals in a DIY booth. I am definitely going to try this and see what kind of results I can achieve. Thank you!

@@MundoCasmo I got the ones called "WEN 272812 72-Inch by 80-Inch Heavy Duty Padded Moving Blankets, 12 Pack" They don't have the grommets though. I'm going to use heavy duty shower curtains to hang them up instead and do the PVC pipe booth design from another video.

"Everywhere online says you gotta spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars to get good results, " half of them are trying to sell something, and the others use bullshit mentality that applies to building a professional studio, but is not necessary for great results...
Patrick, thanks for sharing this! Check out how much the blanket linked in your video is now lol $3,000. Crazy, obviously there are alternatives but they should have given a cut for marketing.
Hi, great video! I’m trying to record some voice overs but live in a flat/condo next to a road that has a car passing every 2 minutes. Do you think this set up would keep that sound out?
Thank you so much!
@PatrickBreenMusic

You're very welcome!
woah!
Great video! And thank you for taking the time to teach us all how to do this. I’m curious about something though. Your blankets aren’t going all the way down to the ground. They couldn’t be I mean. The one that makes the roof would have to be at least 115 inches long to accomplish this, yet the link says your blanket is only 80 inches (I think). Even the one hanging from the hooks that wraps around wouldn’t be long enough to hit the floor as you need at least 83 inches there. So it that not important? Thanks!!!!
That song was fire too.
Thanks so much for this video! Do you think you could make a video about mixing vocals just to sit in the instrumental well? That's something I often find myself struggling with.
@PatrickBreenMusic
3 жыл бұрын
Tim what's up my friend! Thanks for your comment. I'd be happy to put something together about mixing vocals. I will say, I have my next couple months worth of videos locked in, so it might take me a minute to get this video out! In the meantime check out a channel called Help Me Devvon. He's got some really great videos about vocal mixing and EQ. I've learned a lot from his videos. Another tool I really recommend using is an EQ trainer. Training your ear to quickly identify trouble frequencies in a recording is really really useful.

Hey man, thanks for this video, you said this could be done without the closet door. Because of the set up I have, that is likely what I will go for. Would I just need another mic stand for that
Thanks again

Would adding an extra layer of moving blankets help reduce noise heard from the outside even if minimally? I live in an apartment with some pretty decent walls, but I would be comfortable knowing I’m not bothering anyone by playing guitar.
