DIY Tube Notching. The fast and easy way. Open source tube notching machine. Cut pipe or tube copes.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this episode we talk about choosing the DIY route instead of purchasing. Kevin built a tube notching tool and machine to help build the tube chassis for our cars. sit back and enjoy a brief explanation and feel free to ask questions. Links are provided below.
This machine cut copes, fish mouths, notches, and the like. Tube coping, pipe notching, is easy and clean. All cuts have a machined finish. Easily reload your tubes or pipes for touching up and hitting the final dimension.
This tube coping machine is designed with 180 degree swing. This makes coping or notching both sides of the pipe or tube in one setup. It's DIY friendly and open source.

and the ultra cheap version - piece of tube, spaghetti and a rubber band. works like a charm. i'd also like to see more details of the machine, and how it is used. that could easily be two videos.

This is by far the quickest design I have seen yet. The other sights where innovating slow, not easy. Those bits though are special find though, because ace will not have them.

  • @centurialinc

Yes we have. We like them and hole saws for simple stuff. 90 degree joints and 45s. But anything else other then that and we prefer the end mill style. It can take a few tries to get things to fit just right and the end mills make it easy to adjust the notches perfectly. A drill press and annular bits or holes saws with get you pretty far. Thanks for watching and the comment.

Cool stuff! For those that want to take DIY tot he next level, the next step is the "open-source" machinery libraries out there. Basically, it's blueprints for making machinery or other devices that are equal counterparts to proprietary equipment or are "original" like in Lindsey's Technical Books. The time has come for this since it is common knowledge the economic system is failing and this time probably won't be coming back. Open source is coming back with a vengeance. :)

Thanks for checking in on this project. We do have a gen two machine designed. It would be a kit. Not a 100% DIY build but definitely a money saving option. The progress on that has stopped do to other projects requiring our attention. We are selling lots of our other tools and so we have been fully involved in scaling up to meet demand. We might be back on this project some time latter this year.

  • @centurialinc

MSC Direct. But they are nothing special just big. All a roughing end mills HSS with and without a coating. We bought the cheapest ones they had. So far they have held up well. Made two complete chassis with the same end mills and I bet they have plenty of life left in them. Best Matt

Relax. You didn't pay for anything and a short promo was the point. We didn't know if anyone cared about a DIY tube notcher so we put this together after we built the thing. People really like it and have asked for a build video. And we are working on that right now. These things take a lot of work and we learned a long time ago not to put weeks or months into projects people don't care about. So, like I said relax. We have to put thousands of dollars into this stuff and weeks of building and filming. That's a lot more than the 2 mins your upset about.
